Ironically both Bill Mumy and Stephen Furst ("Flounder") did some of the better serious acting work on B5 and it was very easy to forget their former "goofier" characters while watching the show.

My shames.

Babylon 5 - just never got into it. seen a few episodes but wasn't one I HAD TO WATCH.

Used to watch the old Doctor Who on PBS as a kid, but don't remember much of it. Was totally stoked for the new version, just kinda stopped watching it and haven't kept up on it.

Eventually I'll go back and rewatch all this stuff. On the other hand, I made up for it by watching loads and loads of SF Anime, so it all works out!

Edit:

I suppose I should clarify that I did see the first season of the new BSG and got frustrated with the characters, which is why I stopped. I still want to finish it though. Additionally, I saw the B5 ?miniseries? ... I don't remember what it was called, but it was a feature-length intro to the series.
Perhaps "In the Beginning". Babylon 5 made 5 TV movies when in was shown on TNT (One for each season--In the Beginning for season 1). I highly recommend getting the DVD's. It's a 5 year arc, and well worth your time.

As far as my shame goes...

I have never watched a single episode of Supernatural. Also, I didn't watch Firefly until forced to. (The title just didn't sound like anything special--hoo boy was I wrong)

I too hated the pilot, it evoked the movie "Wing Commander" to me. I'm not sure why now, but at the time, it did.

Starting with "33" though, I got hooked.
I watched the mini-series and the first half of the first series, but really didn't like it. I think it was the anti-Star Trek problem; in Star Trek (Especially TNG and Voyager) everyone is perfect, they don't have any character flaws and they always do the right thing. In nu-BSG, everyone is flawed to an almost comical level, always seems to the the wrong thing and always has terrible things happen to them. It's just as implausible and jarring to watch.

I do love B5, obviously series 5 was a bit hit and miss, but that's hardly their fault given the Executive Meddling they had to put up with.

As someone who's seen just about every episode of not only the Nu-BSG reboot series but even every episode of the original 1970s era BSG I have to say that I liked both series for different reasons. To me they both have their strengths and weaknesses. The new series did tend to get a little too "metaphysical" towards its 3rd and 4th seasons, but at least it had 4+ seasons which is a bit of an accomplishment in this age when many shows can't even finish one before they're cancelled.

I'd also agree that the pliot movie of Nu-BSG was not as good a hook for the show as the first regular episode (called "33"). That's too bad because it really does sound like too many people gave up on it too soon after the pilot.
I gave the nu BSG till the end of the second season before finally asking myself "Why am I watching this?" I think that it represents my biggest regret for lost time actually watching a series. The single exception to that was watching the "Adama Maneuver" on Youtube. I tried a couple episodes of Caprica. I think that title is missing an "r" as the second letter.

I'm actually glad I didn't watch Lost.

I sort of regret not watching the last season of Heroes.

I had to be dragged to Battlefield Earth (still haven't forgiven some friends for it) and Barbed Wire.

I enjoyed Godzilla Vs Biolante. If only for the fact that I was one of 2 people in the entire theatre. We did an impromptu MST3K session on that one. I like rubber monster flicks.

My guiltiest pleasures? The first 3 "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" films.

For me that has to be the 4 series of Lost I watched; thankfully I saw where Heroes was heading halfway through S2 and bailed out

Caprica's biggest mistake was that they tried to make an ongoing episodic TV series out of an idea that would have been better served as a 6 or 8 episode miniseries. Actually one could argue that nu-BSG itself should have been envisioned as a fixed length mini-series. As a pre-planned mini-series these shows could have well defined beginnings, middles and endings that tell good stories we can care about.

Of course as we all know American TV doesn't typically operate with that mindset. They'd rather try to create open-ended shows that'll last as long as the ratings are good. The only problem with that model is that it almost always means a show will linger well past its prime and be driven into the ground with silly plotlines that wander off into the weeds.

All we can do is hope that these shows manage to get decent worthwhile endings as best they can.

Dune.

I've read the book, though. Wasn't exactly over-the-moon, so I figured I shouldn't waste my time with the adaptation.

Also, It's been a long time since I've watched Blade Runner and 2001; I should probably reacquaint myself with hem.

The Dune movie is very interesting, if somewhat confusing. I've seen Blade Runner more recently than 2001... I should probably see the latter again as well. All I remember is the beginning and the end.

The problem with Caprica was making it anything to do with BSG. The original show concept wasn't connected with it, but SyFy wanted to trade on the BSG name so renamed a few of the characters and marketed it as a BSG prequel. Problem is, it wasn't really a show that would appeal to the same audience, so they only got a small chunk of the old BSG audience while alienating non-BSG fans who assumed it would be more of the same.

Caprica was too artsy-fartsy for my taste (kind of like watching SuckerPunch and it kin (all the way back to The Cell).

I actually liked BSG.

As for kicking myself for missing a must-see; I don't think I have one of those... I've caught quite a bit of it all and the stuff I've missed is either turning up on Netflix or was passable anyhow; IMO.

I didn't like the movie Dune... any iteration of it. I recommend reading the book. It should clear up several things for you.

The only Doctor Who I've ever seen is I vaguely remember seeing an episode with the scarf-wearing Doctor when I was very young at my grandmother's house.

I haven't seen the new seasons of Futurama.

I havent seen BSG.

I haven't seen Alien (though I have seen Aliens).

I haven't seen Farscape.

I haven't seen Star Trek: Enterprise.

I haen't seen Lost.

I haven't seen any Terminator movie.

Now how about these:

I have seen Earth 2.

I have seen M.A.N.T.I.S.

I have seen Whoops.

I have seen Earth: Above and Beyond.

I have seen The Flash television series.

I have seen The entire run of Lois and Clark.

I have seen Brimstone.

I have seen Attack of the Killer Tomatoes cartoon series.

The only ones I'll admit to having not seen are E.T., Forbidden Planet, and Metropolis all of which I do intend to watch. Well,ok, on T.V. I've not seen Time Tunnel or Blake's 7, but that's because I've never had true access to the shows.

I have seen a lot of obscure and short-lived sci-fi. Anyone remember Project: UFO, Salvage 1, or The Powers of Matthew Starr? I do think someone needs to resurrect The Questor Tapes. That one had, IMHO, a lot of potential.

I didn't watch more than a few episodes of the more recent BSG simply because what I *did* watch I didn't like. I wasn't a big fan of the original series/movie, but get rid of the robo-daggit and I could stand it.

I have never seen The Thing in its entirety. I never make it past the dog part in the beginning.

I didn't watch the Robotech series.

I saw bits and pieces of them growing up with my dad on PBS, but I have never seen in their entirety pre-Eccleston Doctor Who or Red Dwarf. Would love to catch up on those someday.

I stumbled across Caprica in the middle of one of the v-world scenes with the girls in a black, empty room, picked up on the reality-bending elements of its concepts, and set the DVR to capture the whole series.

I was annoyed by the end of season one, and ticked-off by the end of season two. The show flat-out tried to do too much and offer too many different forms of commentary while referencing and trying to incorporate (and build upon) an established mythology. The show that tries to do everything Caprica tried to do in the length of time it had available is never going to provide a coherent entertainment experience. I hate to accuse the network responsible for "Dinoshark" and "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid" of creating muddy, incomprehensible programming, but Caprica never lived up to its potential.

Which is a shame, because the simple sense of wonder and possibility that went along with that one black-room scene was enough for me to imagine an entire universe of possibilities they never prioritized exploring in the way I would have liked.

Have Netflix? They have quite a bit of it available streamed.

I'm insanely fond (as opposed to a fan of... hard to explain) the original Doctor. William Hartnell is just... I don't know. Plus seeing what they were trying to do with such limited scenery - "The Azteks" is one of my favourite of their stories.

Pre-Eccelston (and it's so odd to me seeing him in Elizabeth,) the first and fifth doctors are probably my favourites, and I really wish we'd gotten to see more of the eighth. Need to find more of the seventh, though. I think the only bit I've seen is the beginning of the eighth's movie.

All that said... what I haven't seen? I can't really call it shame.

Futurama - ok, I've seen some. But I don't find it interesting or amusing. (Same with the Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. It could all vanish and be replaced with infomercials for toe jam collection kits and I'd call it an improvement.)

Red Dwarf. I think I've caught half of one episode, but have been interested. (It's not in my Netflix queue, either - it's one of those things I have to dedicate a long weekend to, I think.)

Smallville/Lois and Clark. Honestly, the interest just wasn't there.

Same with Lost, honestly. And, going back a ways, Twin Peaks.

Re: Dune (movies)

I won't be happy until they make one that has Paul's mother ask him what it's like to be a murderer after the Sietch duel. Don't ask me why it irks me so badly that that keeps getting left out (then again, I blank out the one with Sting... *shudder*)

I've never got around to;

Dune
Star Trek -Wrath of Khan

TV series... =/

  • Star Trek TOS (I've seen about 2 or 3 episodes and The Wrath of Khan)
  • Babylon 5 (Seen bits and pieces a long time ago)
  • Farscape (" ")
  • Stargate SG1 (" ")
  • " " Atlantis
  • I've seen the first 3 or so seasons of the new BSG, haven't gotten around to finishing it
  • The original BSG (Though I'm not really ashamed of it, I don't really have an interest in it)
  • Dr. Who (Same as the original BSG. I watched the first episode of the 2005 series and didn't really care enough to watch more.)
  • New seasons of Futurama
  • A few anime that I cant really think of
  • There's probably more stuff.

Call me crazy, but that actually looks more like one of the random Evangelion-ish characters based off Rei than her specifically to me. I kind of want to say someone from Nadesico, but it's been more than 10 years since I saw either so I'm probably way off.

Okay, I'm probably going to get lynched or else just forced to hand over my geek cred card on general principles but I have NEVER watched (as in, not even a single episode):

Firefly
Serenity
Nu BSG (I can't definitively speak for old BSG, but I'm pretty sure I never watched that either)
Buffy
Lost
Farscape
Star Trek: Enterprise
Dollhouse
Smallville
Lois and Clark
etc etc etc

I just don't usually watch TV.

I have seen ST, ST:TNG, STS9, ST:Voyager, B5, Doctor Who (old and new, so there!). But that's about it.

BTW: Freitag - I think you watched THE GATHERING. But by far and away, the BEST of the B5 movies was IN THE BEGINNING. Brilliant. Though the series kicked a** as a whole (yes, several weak episodes, but overarching awesomeness). I even made a tribute video for it.
