Since the announcement of City of Heroes Freedom™ and Issue 21, we've been getting a lot of questions about features and functionalities that will make it into the game. Well, it is now time for you to experience all those changes first hand, for the VIP Beta for City of Heroes Freedom and Issue 21 is starting at 4:00 p.m. PDT ( 7:00 p.m. EDT / 12:00 a.m. BST / 1:00 CEST) on August 9 (August 10 in Europe)!

If you've never accessed our Beta server before or need a refresher, get the latest set of instructions to install it here.

Once that's done, delve into the next evolution of City of Heroes starting from the new Character creator and its myriad of improvements and additions, straight into the brand new combined tutorial and the updated Atlas Park and Mercy Island!

And while you're at it, browse through the Paragon Market™ as well as the brand new Paragon Rewards system that supersedes the Veteran Program!

City of Heroes Freedom and Issue 21: Convergence have so much to offer, you will want to make sure you check our Issue 21 Overview page as well as our City of Heroes Freedom mini-site before embarking on the Beta adventure.

So, who's invited to this VIP beta?

Is it a veteran thing? Is it "closed-open" beta since all subscribers will be VIPs when CoH:Freedom launches?

Yeah, I'm guessing it is going to be an open beta for subscribers only, sort of like what happened with Issue 20.

All current subscribers, i.e.; anyone who would be VIP when Freedom launches .

Can you tell us what we'll be able to access of Freedom and I21? Would it be all the features, or only some of them?

My question is this:

Upon signing on to the Open Beta will we receive Paragon Points and Rewards EXACTLY the same as though it were going live on the main servers? ie- linked to our actual Veteran time and months since July 1st to accrue points?

My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw

I'm pretty sure the answer to this question is yes, but we are going to get some Paragon Points for out beta characters, right? And any clue how many?

Edit: Guess I'm not the only one who had the same question.

To all of you who are about to test this, I salute you. After 5+ years of online gaming I think I've had my fill of beta-besting and all that it brings; bugs, things that get changed repeatedly, keeping up with forum notes to know what's actually going on, spoiling the story for myself, etc. It could be a lot of fun, and I still have fond memories of testing past issues, COV, etc. But, no more for me @_@

How do paragon points work with this if I want to test the market? Are they provided for free for testing purposes, or do I need to shell out real money to test the system.

The beta and test servers shouldn't be connected to the billing system, so any purchases can be made without impacting your credit card.

We'll be issue Paragon Points at some point during the beta, but I don't believe we'll have them available with tomorrow's launch. For now, enjoy the Issue 21 content and have fun window shopping in the store!

That's assuming the pretty CoT are in the current build. We may have to look at the redone but not quite pretty yet CoT.

Will this be accessible to me?

I ask because I'm currently on a free month of time from the Going Rogue Collectors Edition, and won't be actually subscribing until the 20th when I get paid. I do have a 24 month vet account though, so I'm not new to the game. I have subscribed before.
