The New Look for Circle of Thorns
I approve the new look. As someone who streetsweeps in Peregrine, will there be any updates to the Possessed Scientists, since technically they're part of the CoT faction?

After digesting a little bit and nearly making through the entire thread (page 16), I'm still not sure what to think of the revamp of the revamp.
I do like the bosses. They have this high-level-zealot-look going on with ceremonial armor which is appropriately flashy. The pope hat is a nice add too. Agony Mage is my personal favorite.
As for the rest of the NPCs, not really a fan. Haven't really seen the "robes" (if you can call them that) up close, but to me, judging by these current pictures, they look like layered armor and thights. The Minion looks especially iffy to me. I know they're trying to have "robes" that both players and CoT can wear, but these don't really look like robes to me personally.
The NPCs look insanely buff to me as well.
Again, I haven't seen the models up close and in-game, so I'm going by the pictures I've seen.
Bottom line, I still prefer the current in-game versions.
Edit:
Damn, I'm going to miss those brown robed minions....

How did I miss these yesterday?
HOLY CRAP
That's much better.
Do we still get the old new armor too?
First off, I want to say this is not an attack at the devs, or anyone else.
I will state, again, as I think I have stated already, that while I think these are step above the look that was seen at comic-con, I still feel they don't fit the way I've come to see the COT over the years and are just a touch too liefeld an McFarlane. That said, this little rough doodle only exists thanks to a few comments made by some posters that would not keep my mind quiet, as such, I had to do this. That said, if this is the COT we get, then I suppose I can live with it. Beyond that, very nice of the devs to listen to the fanbase, hope things get resolved in a way that makes everyone happy. Ok back to my life. |
anyway. First off, Now I can't un-see the Dev conspiracy angle of all this.

You're a great artist. That's a doodle?

I Gather from the responses, Great Jobs, Slam-Dunks, Knocked out of the parks..etc. that the CoT have been well taken care of... If we ever hear someone talking about, the Developers and Community Reps... arent listening to the subscribers.... well we can simply point to the CoT and mention that doesn't happen in City of Heroes!
We appreciate your Hard Work!
Now I'm headed to Starbucks so I can see the pictures too
"My life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely pretty and well preserved, but rather I will skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...WOW...What a Ride"
I'm still not sure why they needed to update the CoT costumes in the first place, but I'm glad they listened to the forums.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
Ah! El Topo! Welcome to the boards. I'm a big grindhouse movie fan, so I love the name. Named for one of the strangest movies I have ever seen and really what was the movie that started the Midnight Movies in the early 70's at the Elgin Theatre that lead into films like Equinox, Night of the Living Dead, Pink Flamingos, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Warriors, and Evil Dead being made.
As to more on topic... I think the Behemoth Lords and Overlords are going to be jealous.
So here's my thinking: keep the old CoT in the game from levels 1-20 or so. Then, start phasing in the new models in missions, perhaps with a new storyline concerning the Circle unearthing a vast hoard of ancient Oranbegan artifacts. After all, they've had lots of time to make nifty magical things, perhaps this 'new' looking gear is in fact mighty mighty goodies from the height of Oranbega's power. This is especially appropriate if we start seeing some of the more exotic CoV Circle enemies popping up in Paragon City. They're getting stronger, deal with it heroes.
I never commented on the first revamp as I didn't see a need to. The first revamp was fine to me, as I'm usually satisfied with whatever you do for the game. I've only been concerned once in all this time and that had to do with Movement Suppression (in relation to my main toon, a super speedster).
However, just gotta say that this latest revamp...
VA-VA-VA-VOOOOM! Nicely done, devs! Great job, art team!
I do feel that the COT should be more thornier (as in evil twisty thorns jutting from their shoulders-neckline, but I'm also fine with them as is (as usual ).
I'd still prefer the original look, but I'd take this over the first revamp any day. My only complaint is the extreme spikiness of the Death Mage and the bright pink belt. Pink just doesn't say body-snatching-cultist to me.
Still, great work, art-department-people!
Well, they certainly are thorny. It's definitely an improvement. I like the casters a lot. I like most of the mages, but some of the color choices seem off to me. I think the death mages should be black and red, rather than... pink and purple? Those colors would work better for the madness mage. Psychic powers in this game have traditionally been pink for some reason. I would have given the ruin mage some brown, so he looked less like the ice caster. Why are all the belt jewels pink? I'd have probably gone with green there, since those guys don't have green eyes, and green is such a CoT color. They are constantly doing sacrifices with green flames and energy.
Minions don't use magic, like the casters and mages do. Minions should look less like the spell casters. I'd have left them alone, with their dull brown monk's robes. That was a good look for minions and initiates.
[EDIT: The more I think about it, the more I miss the old minions. That faceless brown robe thing was just perfect. It's such a classic look, from so many old horror movies. Maybe it wouldn't fit in so well with the new look, but I will certainly miss it.]
All in all, much improved.

I want to hate these designs, but I can't. I will dearly miss the old CoT, though. I'm going to get my fill of fighting them then, while I still can.
Yes yes yes!
MUCH better!
I felt the first pass lacked the gravitas of antiquity, but this is a much better pass.
I for one welcome our new spiky overlord- punching bags.
Don't ask me about joining Honourable United, I'm lazy. Ask Captain Cathode.

I'd love some similar costume pieces in the character creator!
