The New Look for Circle of Thorns

A Musing Mage

The coat-tails are nice but the Agony Mage split-robe was the one of the workarounds (for players) that I was hoping to see in regards to getting players below the knee, robe-styled pieces.

Holy underwear! That look goes up to 11! Great response to the feedback Art Dept.

It's much better than the last go at revamping them... I can at least see a vague similarity between this and the iconic CoT appearance. I think these are amazing costume pieces, and are wonderfully suitable for extensive use, and I'm happy to hear they'll be available to players, I think that's the best use there is for them... but they still look wrong for CoT. I'd rather face lower resolution classic Cot than these things any day. They're awesome looking and all... but it's like you took a '67GT and dressed it up in a fiberglass body kit to make it look like a 2012 model. At least it doesn't look like a '67GT dressed up like a Tron-mobile anymore though, so it's much less bad.

Dear NCsoft, if you go through with this shutdown you've guaranteed you'll not see another dime from me on any project you put out, ever.

Ehh.... well at least the bosses look ok.

I don't really know, some of those NPCs look ok while some of the designs look very flashy and "busy" for my taste. Glad they at least worked on the original revamp designs...

Edit:
Damn those CoT guys are ripped.

Thanks for listening, in my opinion they are stunning and yet still resemble the COT. Great job, thank you for working with us

These are excellent. They look like an Ultimate-line imagining of the Circle of Thorns, rather than something completely different. I really hope the lower garments are going to put in the store too, I will totally pick those up and build some costumes around them.

Thanks to all the devs for listening to the playerbase and making such huge - and speedy! - improvements.

This?

This is nailing it out of the bleeding park!

Extra: I do think the Guards need to be a bit plainer. They don't look as robey as they used to/the LT and Bosses do. Also, brown still suited them fine!

Although having the higher level minions being the 'Elite' Thorn Guard would work nicely.

The only other thing is; Needs more red and black! What self respecting villain group has no red and black?

Edit: What about the Fire Thorn casters? Just missed out, or being removed?

I think the bosses are really all that matter. I mean really, they are what you fight the most of. Minions you just kill off.

I like that you can buy some of these bits in paragon store.... Totally win in my book.

Are the new Minions going to differ in powerset from the old Archers?

Any revamp planned for the CoT Demons (Behemoths, Hordelings, Hellfrosts, Succubi, Spectrals)?

Why? They've had thousands of years to perfect their look

The Thorn Casters and their pope hats are a leeeeetle bit silly, but overall, I like 'em. I absolutely love the obscured faces on the new bosses as well.

Two questions:
1)Fire Thorn Casters? Going away? Left off the picture? And though it's not a costume question, are the Thorn Casters going to get mixed up a little bit, rather than one per level range?

2)The leaked photos included some female minions, which is one of the things I actually did like quite a bit about the revamp. Are they still around, or were they dropped to focus on fixing the costumes in general?

Hmm... let's see...

There are literally over 70 costumes associated with this re-vamp so we can’t show all of them in one image
70+ costumes certainly indicates everything in the CoT is getting revamped.

its very likely since in the OP it says there were around 70ish different costumes they had to revamp

Hopefully there's still time before CoH Freedom's launch to bring the redesign closer to the original Circle of Thorns' feel as an aeons-old mystical cult, not "phase omega spellbinder armor" from some competing MMORPG or another.
I agree. I would prefer MUCH more robe-influence than these have. At the very least the minions should have more robes and less spikes:

I'm thinking that they felt they didn't need to showcase the ENTIRE group for a sample shot. Heck, we still haven't seen anything about the Ghosts and Demons and what changes, if any, they're going to get.

This (unlike certain people think) is a GREAT idea. A short arc that might contain the old outfits and a neat story as to why the change occured would be very cool. Perhaps I might AE one.

Once again I find myself sharing the overall opinion on the revamp's revamp as I did in the original revamp thread. Awesome redesign, Devs! Praise to the Art team for not only listening to player feedback, but working with it as well (not that they haven't before, but I think you get the point ).

Can't wait to see the new CoT in-game!

My initial reaction to this small glimpse...
Very very cool.
I wanted to take a few moments and look over them, because I definitely love the look and they look fierce and mystical and awesome. The obscured faces and glowing eyes inside of the hoods and hats are fantastic and a must (and, actually, it looks pretty cool with the Mages now as well) and, i have ot say, that the new garments go well in combination with them.

I am still a little sad to see the staple, almost campy, old guys in robes thing go away for... completely cool rock your magic socks off style... But, I'm not sure that I'd argue against this direction for the Circle Of Thorns (as much of a traditionalist as I am).

They look wicked. It is a change from their current appearance (which I really liked), but I can't say it is a bad nor a wrong change. Some times, change can be bad... but this could be good.
Again, I hate to say that, as I love the old guys in robes vibe... But... I have to be honest and say that these look wildly fantastic.
The hats, the hoods, the obscured faces and the draping garments were all a must.
You covered that... and created a really wicked, fierce mystical silhouette to frame it all.
Nice work.

(And see? None of this was about "NOOO MUST NOT CHANGE..." nor "I"m a whiner for the sake of whining")

Still... I took some time before I responded to the initial glimpses, so I wonder if I should have waited before responding to these images... If I come back changing my mind, don't disintegrate me (I really don't think I will though. Looks fantastic!).
