I know how you feel!
I would have taken the VFX out of Hasten and Superspeed for most of my characters. Those that had anything at all to do with energy concepts would likely have kept the VFX but just recolored. -
Quote:Yeah, I can't believe we got sucker punched like that. Out of the blue. Just weird and cruel at the same time. The big thing that stings for me?
Issue 24 was going to bring a lot of awesome stuff to the party. And fix a lot of things that people have been asking for.
And NCSoft kills Paragon and City of Heroes right as the thing goes on the test servers.
I24 would have brought me back from my Diablo III addiction. -

Quote:Haha, yes they were!Yeah seriously. Gonna miss those Coffee Talks somethin' fierce.
Those two were hilarious even when they weren't armed.
Quote:It wasn't the impression we needed, but it was the impression we deserved. (No, I have no idea what that means)
I think it was about that time I realized they all really enjoyed working together, that they were a family.
I remember Nate 'Second Measure' Birkholz coming in at times, sometimes Sean 'Dr. Aeon' McCann, and a few others. Any time any of them surprised us with a visit was a good time!
Quote:Hey some of those were epic. I always got a kick out of it when Z and Co. would chain a bunch of tangents together one after another until it seemed like someone offscreen was about to shout "Ultra Combo!!!"
I kept waiting for them to tangent so hard that they forgot they were on the air, and just wandered off to get lunch with the camera still running. Or for Zwill to show us a "sneak peek of something on beta", and then just rickroll us. Woulda. Been. AWESOME.
Quote:Ooh, Velocity. Sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind hearing more about that sometime
Quote:On a side note, I fully plan to keep using that now and then, if only to make "one of every combo". Y'know, for nostalgia and all that.
Quote:I hear ya. From the day she was born, shortly after Going Rogue, my DP/Energy blaster was meant to be Martial Combat. She came thaaaat close, too. *sighs*
Quote:Well for me at least, it's not that CO looks bad, because it doesn't. It looks like it has plenty of things to enjoy about it. Just... not the magic combination that this place had. That game has a slightly wrong visual style, a slightly wrong combat system, a slightly wrong atmosphere. I'll like it, but I don't see myself ever fighting to keep it from shutting down.
Quote:*sighs heavily* I'm just gonna go sit over here in the corner for a while. Don't pay any attention to the little whimpering noises, they'll pass.
I feel your pain. Got any room in that corner for me? Think I'm about to well up with tears. -

...after hearing of the NCSoft decision:
10. The realization that we'll never see Power Pool customization on the live servers or new power pools such as Sorcery on the live servers.
9. And then the realization that I will never know how the rest of the incarnate slots get fleshed out.
8. Never again being able to watch the antics and camaraderie of the Paragon staff as it happened while being broadcast originally on UStream and later TwitchTV.
- No more Hosun 'Black Pebble' Lee - Keetsie 'Tunnel Rat' Braz da Cunha nerf gun wars.
- No more Sean 'Dr. Aeon' McCann Batman voices (those were as entertaining as Chuck Norris jokes. No, seriously.* ).
- No more Melissa 'War Witch' Bianco saying 'taking it to the next level' then getting zinged by devs and community mods alike for that.
- No more impromptu visits from devs on the broadcasts.
- No more of those annoying Andy 'Zwillinger' Belford tangents (and one that I remember to this day that was infuriating at a big round table discussion for, I think, Issue 20.5. But you're still the best community manager ever, Z! You gave over 100% for this community! Your efforts are applauded and appreciated! Thanks for it all! ).
7. Knowing that the Superspeed powerset that I just started working on a few weeks ago (prior to the announcement) will never become part of the CoH universe (it even had a mechanic called Velocity!). This would have been my first suggestion on the forums! Hahahaha
6. Likely no more updates to Mid's Build Planner that I used to enjoy. Thanks for that app!
5. The realization that I'm not going to see Energy Aura powerset proliferated to my tanker, so that I can finally reroll her as she was supposed to be made.
4. No more Player Summits. I went to the first one primarily to physically show my support for CoH. Meeting the devs and getting reveals was exhilarating but I figured if they didn't get enough attendees to the Player Summit then that could be the first and only CoH Player Summit. If only 30 showed out of the 200 tickets available then it would have bombed. So I was going to be damned if I didn't do my part to help make sure there could be others. I hate airline trips. I took 4 overall to get there and back home. Yes, I'm crazy. ( note: first trip to CA though, or really, anywhere out that far west. )
3. The realization that my own personal Mayan calendar is becoming fulfilled (see my sig).
2. The realization that in order to get my superhero goodness on after the blackout, that I'm going to have to try a cryptic competitor but only after I take a small hiatus ( I want to see if anything happens a few months after the end).
And the #1 reason that the NCSoft decision stings:
1. Never more being able to say that I subscribe to the greatest superhero MMO in the WORLD!!!!!
*No seriously, I loved them! They were hilarious. Thanks for the laughs, Dr. Aeon! -
I got back 2 hours ago from the midnight showing.
Loved every minute of it. I felt so exhilarated just walking to my vehicle in the parking lot just after seeing it. The Avengers finally came to the big screen and it was awesome!!!!
Please go see it. I intend to watch it at least 3 more times this weekend alone (took off work last night just to watch the midnight showing - I was that excited to see it). -
I like #1.
I don't always need to see heroes/villains in action poses. Sometimes I just like a nice clean pose. -
Out of curiousity as a longtime boardgame player, what boardgames were played?
I see that you mentioned Acquire, what others though?
If I had known there were going to be boardgames with the devs, I would have moved Heaven & Earth to get there. -
I first read about a preview of CoH from a gaming mag, PC Gamer, in their October or November 2003 issue. This was right on the heels for me after playing Freedom Force, which whet my appetite for more superhero gaming. I thought to myself, "Cool! A superhero MMO! But ugh! $15 a month? Are you kidding me? On top of my ISP costs?"
But then my June issue of PC Gamer came out, with a REVIEW of CoH. This was before I started becoming comfortable with 'surfing the web'. I didn't keep tabs on the game via the internet and now this magazine was telling me it had already launched.... almost 2 months previous! Aaaargh! I missed the boat!
So I decided the heck with the $15 subscription, I wanted to try it out. Two days later, I needed some in-game information so I signed onto the CoH boards. A week later, Issue 1 launched. 18 months later, I subscribed with a second CoH account. I was hooked.
Now I look back and think to myself, "Pfffft. $30? For all the enjoyment I've gotten from this game, that was small potatoes. What the heck was I whining about?" Now every month I'm buying points, for this or that (mostly costume bundles and powersets, but I've been wanting those storage space increases), never letting my subs lapse.
So please, Paragon Studios, keep it going! Love the game and I've enjoyed making friends here (and even visited a few).
Thank you for these last 8 years and I hope many more to come!!!!! -
Just wanted to wish safe travels for everyone going to the Summit.
I went last year and I found it exciting and informative, but I couldn't attend this year. I enjoyed meeting some of the devs and community mods. And Zwillinger is the closest I got to a 'famous person' that I've ever had the pleasure. Sat to his immediate left during dinner, lol.
I'm thinking of driving to it next time. Take a week to get there but I'd finally see what's west of Mississippi, lol (instead of what it looks like miles above). I just really don't like flying and getting on 4 different jets to and from the Summit ain't my cup o' tea.
Anyways...
Safe travels to everyone! May you have lots of fun and hopefully meet some new friends! -
I started using the /macroslot slot name command slash command near the end of last year (in a bind file) and it was working as intended until Issue 22 launched. Then it wasn't working anymore.
I'm experiencing the same limitation you are, Klaatu. Nothing will slot larger than slot 10 (the first tray). -
I voted! We're 3rd place though.

Congratulations, Turg!
MiniTurg: Hero or villain? And what AT? Powersets? Preferred badge on display?
I wish you and your wife all the best for this little wonder! -
Congrats, Agent White!

I was at the table where Zwillinger sat for dinner and as far as he told us(and this I definitely remember being said):
- This Freedom Player Summit was a proof of concept thing;
- because of the proximity to their studio (within 2 miles), they were able to get 30 devs to attend;
- they want to do a minimum of 1 FPS per year, preferably 2 per year.
I'd love it if they could hold 2 Freedom Player Summits per year. That way, if people cannot make one, they can still try for the other that year. -
Quote:They also said that the names of those slots might change as well. The names as they stand right now are basically 'placeholders'. So, yeah, everything is up in the air.
So, basically, several of us were right.
The new incarnate slots will start coming out when the devs actually figure out what they do XD -
Hey everyone!
I just found this thread so my apologies for being late to it (thank you, Turgenev, for that link from the other thread). From the 10th until last night (the 15th) I was taking a tour of the Mid West and loving it.
Friday, I'm getting in late at 7:40 PM, so most likely will be taking a taxi to the hotel and just relaxing until bedtime.
Saturday, if still possible, I would enjoy accompanying anyone that has room for lunch/dinner/whatever during the day. Of course, I will repay your kindness with cold hard cash for your gas & time or we can work out other forms of payment, too.
Sunday, I leave early afternoon, 1:20 PM to be precise. So I'll have some time to lounge around before heading out.
Looking forward to meeting all of you and attending the Pummit! -

Thanks for your insight, Texas Justice.
I was thinking it wouldn't be possible, just for the very reasons you gave, with secrets being displayed everywhere. But it never hurts to ask, right? Except if the time frame you ask about it would preclude it from happening, of course. lol
Well, if I can get a picture of me in the Freedom conference room, that'd be alright by me!
Perhaps I'll have to give this Fred's Steak sandwich a try.
Thanks again. -
Finally made the plunge today and got my event ticket, hotel room for 2 nights and airline ticket.
Arrive at SJC 7:40 PM Friday the 18th.
Checking in at Dinah's Garden Hotel, most likely heading to bed soon after.
All day event on Saturday.
Leave for BWI Sunday the 20th at 1:20 PM. -
To TonyV and any other Wiki Wonder Workers:
Thank you very much for all of your efforts in maintaining and improving your site. I've used it almost daily for years. It truly is one of the best CoH support sites out there. I enjoy almost all of the rest of the Titan Network as well.
Thanks again for providing a safe, clean and efficient site! -
I'll be here until the lights go out.
I've been going strong for 7+ years with one account and have had my second account for 5.5+ years. Both of my accounts will remain VIPs and I've recently converted two trial accounts into free accounts (which will likely become premium at some point).
I'll never /ragequit this MMO as not many things about it gets my blood anywhere near boiling as it does for other forum posters. Not even close. The only thing that gets under my collar is the constant server shut-downs but I quickly realize that its necessary to keep this great game going and thus it only takes me a few moments to calm down.
Even if the next six issues has content that I do not like, I'll still pay and play. There is just sooooo much other content already in the game that actively keeps me busy and there is so much content I still haven't played! Content that is 7+ years old ( I'm referring to many of the old contacts - yes, I realize many of those old missions aren't up to the standards of today but I still haven't experienced them).
I also enjoy building and improving my characters using set bonuses and incarnate powers. I enjoy being super which is what these features help me to elevate my characters into being, IMO.
And so, I just enjoy playing my characters. The thrill is the immersion. Getting into the role I've developed for their character concept is how I keep my perspective fresh in this game.
So, yes again, I will be a VIP (twice) until the lights go out! -
Ok, I bought the Aura Unlock and its not a bug. Cool beans! Thanks!
Quote:I came away from reading the title 'Aura Unlock', singular, as meaning one aura. And when reading the 2nd sentence, to me 'series of basic auras' sounds like as you purchase each aura they become unlocked.Aura Unlock
All characters can unlock the use of basic cosmetic "Auras" at Level 30 by doing an in-game mission (for free). Purchasing the "Auras Unlock" License allows your character(s) to equip a series of basic Auras without ever having to do the "Aura" mission.
That's just me, but I'm usually misinterpreting rules to boardgames that I play with friends anyways. And they're always good enough to kindly point out my flaws in logic. Logic has never been my strong suit.
But I'd like to end this post by saying thanks to Frostbiter, The_Spad_EU, Roderick, Kitsune Knight, and especially Snow Globe for their help in this matter. Very much appreciated! Many thanks!
