I think it'd be a good idea to announce if there are any MORE visual revamps.

The reason this was an atrocity to me was that the dev team as a whole thought we would love this change because they loved it.

Posi put out his "OMG...you guys DON'T like this?" statement that pretty much said we would like this because the devs loved it.

The reality between what the player base really wants, expects and what was actually delivered was so on the mark that the arrow hit the cat on the post behind the mark.

Several things bother me about this move. Since it is in closed beta and we can't see what was said yet, unless people want to give morbid hints and end their posts with a smiley face.... then we don't know what is there.

Let the guys do what they do best and if you don't like the changes, sure you can voice that opinion but other then that, get over it.
Player-suggested (and sometimes created) things that were implemented into the game:

Capes
Epic ATs
Pistols
Dual Blades
Street Fighting (coming soon)
Ouroboros (the ability to do stuff you've missed)
Player-created missions (AE)
Trina
Empyrean Michael
Astral Christy
A Wider Expansion of Lore Pets
Weapon Customization
Power Color Customization
Alternate Animations

Note: This list is not all-inclusive. These are just a few.

Bless your heart, strawman.
Great, the one guy who actually got this post was dissuaded. Good job forums.

I have to agree with this observation. :/

Oh, wait. If that were true, we wouldn't have PLAYERS re-design NPC contacts (Trina in Pocket D, the two Incarnate Merit vendors) and we wouldn't have PLAYERS point out that, actually, the numbers guys messed up and stuff was doing things it shouldn't be (Arcanaville)

So, actually, the forum players DO have a pretty damn good idea of what's going on. Not to mention we are the players and thus the paying customers.
Trina is indefensible...ugh...

The rest look better.

Alternate (smaller) shoulderpads look good.
The tall-hat-thing looks good
The massive-spiky-skirt looks a little much but does go some way towards restoring the "robe-y" feel

But the undersuit still looks... too spandex-y, skipping the skirt on the Lt's, not having the face blacked out on the minions and finally not having the minions in robes were all mistakes IMHO.

1) This is the forum provided by the Devs for us to comment on all things CoX.

2) Pretty sure the Dev's want us to think this is our game.

Rest of you, carry on!

Their game is nothing without players. A major change to the games looks should be presented to the playerbase ahead of time. A short week long vote would save alot of time in the long run over having to scrap a whole redesign.

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

I am betting that if they had the tech and skill to do the new look from the beginning, they would have.
I highly doubt that. I honestly do.

I don't mind people commenting on stuff, but there's Beta phases in place for this very reason. Undoubtedly the testers are commenting and have commented on these changes, and whilst it's fine to be vocal about things, it's not fine to brand the developers and artists and all the people who clearly work their collective butts off as being out of touch with the playerbase.
You seem to be confusing the two different parts here.

There has been LOTS of critique, feedback and even player-made suggestions aimed at the CoT costumes. So far, theres been very little 'Dev-Bashing'; plenty of 'It looks great...but it's so not CoT' though.

The 'Dev-Bashing' comes from the condescending remark that reads like 'Oh, you guys are only seeing a phone-image, so, yeah, y'know', which basically implies that we're making a snap judgements and are clearly wrong because the images aren't properly marketed or something. None of which would change the fact that people dislike the change made to the CoT.

Either way, at least the new one looks better than the old one

Some might suggest that if you didn't want to receive feedback on it, you shouldn't have presented it in an extremely public place.

Others might suggest that if it needs special presentation to be palatable, you shouldn't be trying to sell it in the first place. The alternative redesigns posted in the much larger thread certainly don't need any context or backgrounds to look good.

But I get the sense that this is going to be one of those things that the playerbase doesn't like, but doesn't care enough to cancel subscriptions about. So, really, there's no problem :\

Laser Jesus came up with the idea initially. Seriously. Though his original idea also coupled it with increasing the secondary effects of powers so other stuff was worth slotting for.

ED opened the path to the Invention System, IOs, and eventually the Incarnate System. It brought some semblance of balance where previously there was none. It wasn't a change we wanted, but it was a change we needed. I don't know if the Cities would have survived this long without it.

That said, while the idea of having a sneak peek into the Art Team's process appeals to me, I can understand not doing so for the sake of actually getting things done.

And I'm not sure I'd go with 'atrocity' for this. Maybe 'kick in the junk'. Because some of the reactions I imagined on some of the posters in the 'CoW' thread were ****ing hilarious.

"Ooo! A little fight in you! I like that..."

Which means that Jack was the Chosen One, who brought balance to the Game.

I never said I didnt agree with ED, only that it originated with a player. In fact the only thing I didnt like about ED is that it made my defenders already anemic damage worse, But the devs finally addressed that with the changes to vigilance.

Isn't that kind of the point of the suggestion, though - to communicate the idea the art team has before it's actually instituted? If you showcase a design and people go "YAY! WANT!" then there's very little chance the final in-game design will be rejected. Sure, some will cling onto minor details, but the whole design is pretty much safe. If you showcase it and people go "Meh. Decent." you're still pretty much safe. Some will like it, others won't, but few will be outraged. But if you showcase a design and get an overwhelming reaction "NO! NO! DO NOT WANT!" then that might be a good time to reconsider if the artistic direction really is right.

Obviously, no-one on the art team should be beholden to what we say on the forums. Most of us are neither artists nor game developers, and few of us are aware of their own preferences and desires in any coherent way. In a lot of ways, we depend on the art team to give us something good that we often didn't even know we wanted and supplant our imagination with their talent of creation. That's how it should be. But sharing concept art with the wider community can only ever be a good thing, as it generates opinions and feedback - feedback, more specifically, at a time when it stands a chance of being relevant.
