It's almost as if the devs try and improve the game from time to time.

The idea of being able to buy vet rewards is very unsettling for me. It's kinda petty I guess, seeing how it's just a name, but in my mind it is not a "Veteran" reward in any way if you can buy it.
Otherwise, I like it.

They umm... kind of did.
You know by renaming it to Paragon Rewards?
Until I see something that states to the contrary, going to assume VK is right .

For those wondering "What tier will I be?", I made the following chart. Rednames please point out any errors.
What Tier? Vet status Tier 1: 0 F2P Tier 2: 0 Premium - 4 Months VIP at launch date Tier 3: 5 - 11 Months VIP at launch date Tier 4: 12 - 19 Months VIP at launch date Tier 5: 20 - 31 Months VIP at launch date Tier 6: 32 - 47 Months VIP at launch date Tier 7: 48 - 64 Months VIP at launch date Tier 8: 65 - 81 Months VIP at launch date Tier 9: 84+ Months VIP at launch date

Here is a table to see where you stand as far as tiers goes:
Find your Vet Reward Status in the table. In the case of year badges, look at the red version.

Infinitely huge and unwieldy? But what if I want my Brute to use the Tier 9 VIP Tree as a Titan Weapon? I want to bash free players with my CoH Hipster Tree, danggit! I was a vet before being a vet was cool!

Let all those measly "free players" know their place as we bludgeon them with the Mighty Complexity! And we can lash them with the... With the... Confound it... Ah! The Great Egotistical Whip! Let all who see our might as paying veterans TREMBLE at our audacity!

They are improving it from a "get more now" perspective but they really need to take the Veteran Reward tag off of it completely.

This is really a good way to do it, IMO. There will be people who will not want to deal with a subscription but who will have no qualms about keeping large quantities of virtual currency around. Logical or not, it will simply be that way. This system gives them incentives for doing that, and it makes them feel like they are being appreciated as a free player, which is an insanely important feature that hardly any freemium games have built into the market system.
If I had any doubts before (I had none) then I certainly have no doubts now that the people at Paragon Studios actually do "get" the freemium market.
By the way, I'm assuming that any reports from the Underground Trial will be fine to be posted here, as it's a public thing?

I'd rather go down the list and pick my "vet" rewards one time for my account. I don't want the boxing shorts or the Omega symbol; and there might another one or two veteran rewards I never use now that I just don't recall offhand.
In the slide show they call it "Paragon Rewards". It sounds like "veteran" is, indeed, off the table.

Right, so I now have to pay $360 in order to unlock Tier 9 and use new powersets when they're added to the game... brilliant.
Thanks a bunch.

Tier 2: 0 Premium - 7 Months

Positron said that existing Vets will have what they got auto-filled in the program.

So if I understand this right, I dont have to waste my Paragon Rewards on stuff I've already earned... and can conceivably be further along the tree than shown here?

After re-reading everything I think you'll get whatever you currently have plus the extra reward tokens to buy your way further up the tree. It makes the most sense because people could re-buy themselves out of something they already have. Besides, the system is going from a once/quarter reward to a once/month reward and it's a good way for the current veterans to "catch up". At 33 months I should be only 1 month from unlocking tier 9 and instead I'll just be into tier 7 or 8 (depending on when it goes live, before or after my 36 month reward) even with the extra buys.
I assume costume purchases will still come with a free tailor token but what about the vet respecs and character slots? They aren't specified on the system.
I'm also curious about the lines next to the title of each Tier label - it makes it look like you have to be at those tiers to unlock inventions and large inspiration drops etc. Surely that's just for the non-VIP customers maybe?
[Edit] Doh - keep forgetting I earned my 36 month badge a week ago.

Well they did say exclusive new powers.
What infuriates me even more, is that if I was allowed to merge the veteran rewards I've had on the various accounts I've had over the years, I'd be tier 7 rather than tier 3.
And it looks good. As a long time subscriber, it looks like I keep all the stuff I've already got, get more stuff right off the bat, and then keep getting more stuff in the future no slower than I have been in the past. That's what I expected, but it's nice to see some of the details. Actually, it looks better than I expected. I didn't think we'd be getting immediate bonus stuff, but that's what it looks like to me.

I think most if not all new Powersets (like Time Manipulation) will be free for VIP. And most probably buyable at the Paragon Store for Free and Premium players.

Most Tier benefits are if you're a VIP player, not a Premium. But some will be there for Premium. Tier 1's 50 paragon points are apparently used in the tutorial. There is an error on that slide, and they're muting to discuss it. They'll talk about Tier 1-3 later. |
