Paragon Mysteries: The Slender Man

If you take away the space in his name, you get the Slenderman who sounds more like a tax attorney than a supernatural child-snatcher. Suddenly he's a lot less scary... unless you're deliquent in your filings.

Or you can add a dash and he becomes the super hero: Slender-Man!

Has anyone ever seen the Slender Man and Null the Gull at the same time? They both seem to have shown up at around the same time...

Just sayin'.

That was actually an edit I made with MS Paint. Who knew that junk software could be so creepy?

Once it's a hit at the box office, you bet your belt buckle we'll all be introduced to the adventures of Slender-Dog!

Whatever you do, don't look in a mirror and say his name three times!

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Nice to see this here. I wasn't expecting that at all. Well done!

I think it sounds like the name for one of those thermal belts to wrap around your gut while exercising.

I think horror is still possible in a super environment if it is sufficiently alien and/or invasive to what you consider your safe zone. A hero dealing with an entity that has no discernable motive, no truly set form or list of capabilities, that can appear in any location (no matter how private) at any time while remaining largely unnoticed, and that doesn't even seem interested in the entire hero-villain conflict at all would be troubling. Having massive powers or a personal connection to the supernatural could make a super even more vulnerable to fear when something that doesn't fall into their genre passes through, taking something of value and only leaving some telltale clue that it ever was there. All your powers and knowledge reduced to triviality by something that may not even realise you exist, and probably wouldn't even care if it did...

It was a quiet day in Mercy Island, the streets oddly still.

See "In Our Darkest Hour" by Steven Graham in Cthulhu Unbound for a pretty good superhero/horror crossover story. Some parts of the 'Wild Cards' anthology series would probably qualify as well.

And so Slenderman did become a 'hero' unto the denizens of the Isles... Soon they would ask if he could do the same to Lord Recluse and his stupid Arachnos organization.

In all the times I've ever played City of Heroes, I think there's only been one time that I was actually scared. It was in one of the Praetorian missions when you're going to find information on the leader of the Carnival. You know the one.

I wasn't scared out of my mind or anything, but it made me jump a bit, kinda like something in the game was actively watching or hunting me. It was pervasive and realistically, apart from abandoning the mission there's nothing you can do to stop it. I wouldn't call it horrific, and as scariness goes it's low-grade...but I think it was just about right for an occasional jolt of fear (almost wish that Halloween offered an occasional spook like that.)

Horror stories definitely have a long history in comics. I'd welcome one or two horrific elements...but I don't know if I'd want it in a safe-zone, except perhaps possibly as an easter egg that first-time players won't find. You wouldn't want to sacrifice the "I can do anything!" feeling of the super hero genre just for a few horror-movie thrills.

Your CIT and ParagonWiki page are curious things to me. I've been a passive player for far too long. There's so many things I don't know about.
