New Def/Corr/Controllers?

I'm just curious how many of us have started (or dusted off retired) "support" toons with the change to buffing with 20.5?

Personally I never could play a buffer toon for long- my 1 50 Defender is TA/Archery & my 1 50 Corruptor is Dark/Dark. (I tend to like DeBuffers a bit better) But with the AoE shields now in the game, I got the idea for a DP/Thermal Corr that I plan to take blue-side once he's finished saving Praetoria. I also dusted off an old long-forgotten Sonic/Sonic Corr.

I'm finding that now that I'm not spending all my time watchinhg shield Icons and clicking through the team window I can actually enjoy blasting! I'm even thinking about rolling up a Bubbler- something I thought I would never ever do in 7 years playing this game! With Freedom coming might we see a..."Defender resurgence" since buffing is now so easy?

I was going to (I never played sheilders), but then decided to wait til I21, so i could experience the new new player experience on brand new powersets... Though thinking about it, I'll probably make a Time Manipulation character for that.

The resurgence is already here. The change has gotten ME playing a buffing class for fun, and I never thought that would happen.

A friend used PBU+ Force Field bubbles on my MM on day 1 and gave us all 40% defense across the board. I want to be that cool, so I've been playing my Cold Defender.

I am definitely gonna play my FF and Thermal masterminds some now. I was already playing my FF controllers some and this makes me want to unshelve my earth thermal and earth kin controllers.

I dunno if I could ever do a FF defender but I would consider it now. I wish they would proliferate FF to corruptors since I would LOVE a Fire FF corruptor.

Cold shields make me dread this change slightly. I hate them. I am in the "would rather be booted off the team or dead rather than seeing everything obscured with busy ice" camp. But dont let fools lile me ruin your fun.

Buff away.

I am enjoying talking to a foolish-looking bird on top of a truck in order to remove league SBs. Nothing not to like about that; the ability to also evade Group Fly is just the icing on the cake.

Now if we can get Inertial Reduction added to the list! I admit that I am also not that keen on Ice shields, not least because they tend to be hot pink or solid black.

FF definitely seems to be the real winner with this change- I'm even toying with the idea of making one.

Time Manip I admit.. I WANTZ IT NAO!!! (might be the fact that I'm a rabid Whovian and anything time related I love) But my 1st love is still Thermal. I was running through the arcs in Imperial City last night and happened accross a small group- 4 players, 1 being a bot MM. I dropped into the middle of the group.. hit 2 buttons and Viola! everything shielded! I LOVED it!

Now if only Thermal would get ported to Defenders so I can make a thermal/Fire Blast Defender!! (Better living through Immolation!! muhahaha.. sorry, got carried away)

I'm not interested in the changes for "support" characters, but this was a nice change for my Robots/FF Mastermind. Saves me a lot of repetitive bubbling.

No change - I was playing mine anyway.

If anything, it makes my bots/FF mastermind - who already feels like "Why am I here?" in missions, since he has so little to do - feel even more like a spectator because I have even LESS to do.

I'm curious as to know why. FF has long timers on it's bubbles. Outside of the bubbles FF really isn't a busy set compared to others. I think busier sets like Kin, who has a fraction of duration on something like SB and thus reapplying it all the more, and Thermal get much more usage out of this since it frees up more time for them to do their other busy work.

FF had the longest cast animations for its shield buffs, almost twice as long as Cold and Thermal. Playing an FF Mastermind on a full team had you spending about 1/4th of your time casting shields on people. You were basically bound to applying shields for a whole minute if you wanted to buff your teammates and pets.

I would think mainly the Power Boost + bubble ability that can now let you empower the whole league at once.

90 percent of my characters are defenders, so this change saves a lot of time and frustration for my force field, sonic, and cold defenders. This was an awesome feature!

I have lots of support characters which I often play, but none are affected because they're all dark, storm or empathy. I thought about finally doing a kin, but when they clarified that ID is still single-target, that was the end of that.

I have four characters with Kinetics, and being able to speed boost an entire league with 2 or 3 applications of SB is very awesome!

It's time to brush off my FF / Energy Defender, Knockback Knick. For some reason, tanks don't like him much.

The resist from ID is aoe now, only the mez is still single target and it was less important with clarion anyway (apart from the ghost widow fight on stf).

I LOVE the change. I play buffers more often than not when I make Defenders or Corrupters. It allows me to get into the fight without having to focus on support for my teammates since I do it before and after, keeping me constantly doing something. This change makes that even easier.

It also doesn't hurt that I just got a new mouse with a couple extra buttons I've can attach my buff powers to

Already got those fixed on my Grav/Cold Controller, FF/Ice Defender, and when I pull them next my Sonic/Sonic Defender and my Demon/Therm MM (which I'm really looking forward to the increased performance on)...

OH! And Speed boost on my Ele/Kin Controller and my Kin/Assault Rifle Corrupter and my Stone/Kin Controller...

Yeah, I'm enjoying the change a lot

I couldn't agree more.

80% (possibly more) of my characters were already "support" characters. And the same amount of my characters, going forward, will probably still be "support" characters. I play support/healer in all the games I play.

I have a several-year-old Sonic/Sonic Defender, and a two-month-old Fire/Therm corruptor, and I've been anxiously awaiting the 20.5. Unfortunately, now that 20.5 has hit, my altitis has been making me restless to play one of my other toons again.

Maybe I'll play one of my 50's.... my Fortuna never did unlock her Lore slot... or maybe my Assault/Devices Blaster... or maybe my newish BS/Shield scrapper, or my old MA/Invuln scrapper... or maybe one of my lowbie Calamari... Argh! Can't... make... up... my.... mind!

Oh, and for the record, I too am not a big fan of the visual aspect of Ice Armor - it obfuscates my character too much, not to mention I'm not a big fan of running-around as a glorified snowman.

I dusted off my Kin/Elec Defender a few weeks ago to prep him for the upcoming changes. He was only retired because I got tired of individually buffing other players, it just took too much time to do. I'm liking the new changes, it makes playing a Kin a lot more fun as I can finally blast as well as buff. The only slight downside I experienced while running Keyes is that I couldn't tell who got buffed and who didn't. It's not a big deal though, I figure as long as I get my teammates anyone else is cake.

Great change devs
