What would you pay for?

I have no idea what the Devs have in mind for the store. But, if they are looking for suggestions, maybe we should give them some. Since I've been around 7 years, I plan on staying as a VIP, so I guess I will be spending Points. Or maybe Tokens. Might be Merits. Will it be Certificates? Vouchers? We have so many in-game currencies now its hard to say.

Anyway (on a more serious note) here are examples of thing I would pay for.

1. I'd pay for an account-wide permanent power that let me create one of those floating Invention tables without making all the IOs that are required currently.
2. I'd pay to be able to call a Trainer, rather than have to go see them in person. I'd pay more to be able to do it inside a mission.
3. I'd pay to shorten the recharge time on the Mission Transporter power.
4. I'd pay to have a Team TP power that works across zones.
5. I'd pay for chest symbols to be available on capes.
6. I'd pay for a jet-pack that doesn't expire.
7. I'd pay for alternate Medicine power pool animations, and (now that I think about it) to be able to color/use alternate animations/turn off effects for almost all the PPs. Don't nickel-and-dime me on this, just let me pay once for all the PPs (including the Epics) and be done.
8. I'd pay for a zip-line type travel power (you know, the Batman/Spiderman thing). I don't care how it works if there aren't any buildings to attach to, I play a game where interstellar aliens attack us with superior weapons and LOSE. Reality is not an issue, I want a zip-line.
9. I'd pay to be able to move and attack.
10. I'd pay for Inf. Yep, I said it, I'd pay real money for fake money. Or maybe Points for Inf anyway. Cya gold-farmers!

That's all I have right now.

So what would YOU use your hard-earned Points/Merits/Certificates/Vouchers/Tokens for?

1. alternate power animations for DP and ninja run that are a tad more mundane - I want to use my powers, not perform in a circus
2. costume pieces - pancho, bubble helmet
3. anything that in general adds to the power of my characters (say a 5 end purchasable accolade) - I don't necessarily think it would be good for the game if they sold me this, but I would still pay
4. a knife throwing power set - in stark contrast to #1, I'd want it flamboyant
5. any powerset options that break the normal mold - pet based defender secondary, blaster secondary with some defensive/control options, scrapper primary with mixed melee and ranged attacks - this might fall into category 3, but while I'd prefer open power selection, I think some adventurously designed power sets are the next best thing.

I already have Winter badges from years before I started playing the game. If they can already sell those, I'm currently hoping that all the time-restricted badges become available for points.

I hope this doesn't turn into a "Stuff you want" thread, which could end up giving devs the wrong impressions on what the players are willing to spend their PP's on.

Certain things should be made free to VIP's, like power customization to epic/patron and regular pools, new zones, and new archetypes.

Some things I can see myself using paragon points on are the good vet powers (Assemble the Team, Mission Teleporter), certain Booster pack powers and costumes, and maybe new powersets(which might be free to VIP's anyways).

A minor one, but I'd love to be able to get that Arachnos logo that came with some special edition of CoV that doesn't have the bulky 2nd color surrounding it like the one vet reward one does. Makes it hard to put it on anything but tights and not look ridiculous.

I'd also like to be able to buy more custom weapons, either individually or as a themed pack of em.

I do like the idea of being able to mix up archetype powersets. Like, make a melee/debuff set or maybe a control/pets set. I also though being able to mix and match within same-themed sets would be cool. Like take fire blast (the power) and then when you can choose an AoE, you pick frost breath, etc. As long as you could only pick between similar powers, ie, no taking an AoE power from every set, I think it could be cool.

And the obvious: all this stuff we've been asking for in Noble Savage's threads. I assume a lot of those requests are going to be in the Paragon Market.

I don't want to list specific items as that's largely pointless, so let me split the list into things I'm fine paying extra (beyond the 400 VIP points) for and things I don't feel I should be asked to pay for or should ever be offered.

Things I'll pay for:

1. Anything purely cosmetic. Costume pieces, effects, customization options, props, animation options, emotes, title colours and so on.
2. Anything purely for convenience. Remote Tailor access, remote Market access, larger Global Friends list, more extra build slots, etc.
3. Anything that's purely pointless. Non-combat untargetable pets, the Rock and Snowball powers, access to a purely cosmetic VIP lounge somewhere, that sort of thing.

*I'd be willing to pay for these things even if they aren't technically new additions, but I'm paying to unlock them at character creation as opposed to unlocking them via in-game achievements.

Things I feel I'm entitled to as a VIP:

1. Powers-related additions. New powersets, new ATs, proliferated old powersets, revamped old powersets, new power pools, epic pools and patron pools, new character-specific tempermanent power and things of that nature.
2. World-related additions. New zones, new instance tilesets, revamped zones, new rooms added to old tilesets, mini-zones, hub-zones and such.
3. Mission-related additions. New story arcs, new task forces, new trials, new raids, new contacts, new sources of lore or storyline information and suchforth.
4. Subsystem-related additions. New currencies, new game systems (Inventions/Architect/Incarnates), new types of activities and everything else like this.

*I CAN be persuaded to show understanding if large additions in at least three of the above four categories above and beyond the norm are added in the game as a paid expansion, but it needs to be BIG.

Things I feel should never be sold for real money:

1. Influence. Never, ever.
2. Loot of any kind. Enhancements, recipes, salvage, tickets, merits, shards, threads, components or anything else of the sort. Just no.
3. Experience and levels, or boosts to either of those. Under no circumstances.
4. Lifting game balance restrictions. Taking powers earlier than normal, putting more than six slots in powers, trading powers for slots, slots for powers, using enhancements below their minimum level or above their maximum level, entering into otherwise forbidden places. Do not.
5. Character power. Powers, slots, Incarnate boosts, buffs and so on. Do not want.

That about covers it.

Some good ideas here.

My addition:

- A power to create a "Private instance" of a (non-PvP) zone for myself and (up to) my league. Simply call the power and get teleported to the private version of the zone you're in. Anyone invited to your league would see that instance appearing in the zone list (like selecting from the RWZ instances).

Rationale:

-1- If I find a new zone's traffic is impairing my play (too many players hindering performance on my aging rig, too many zone hunters to get what I need, etc.) I can make a new zone.

-2- If I want to host a tournament, event, or activity for myself and my friends in a zone, I can do it without affecting other players or being affected by them.

-3- One of the challenges with the F2P model is banning has very little value to prevent harassment. Its too easy to just make another account and come back (or grief from a "safe" freebie account), and restricting play to JUST a VIP server to avoid that potential is a bit disappointing. No matter how you /ignore a player, they can still interfere with your event in a public place, train foes onto you, etc. You're left with the option to ignore it as best you can or relocate somewhere they can't follow (bases). This would give you another resort.

last time i was asked that i found out the area had a new vice cop.

for me, costumes are the obvious, anything cosmetic, i get a little concerned at actual game balance affecting ideas like powers or specific buffs. those create a imbalance of players, but cosmetic things work for me.

For me? Very Little.

I've yet to buy a booster pack, server transfer or respec. They're optional,
and while possibly cool, I don't need them to play the game - they're worth
$0 to me.

That's the problem I have with their business model change...

Ten minutes after they ask me to pay for *needed* content to play their game,
it gets uninstalled... $180 annually for a *game* is already plenty.

As long as they want to sell me "optional" stuff that wouldn't be part of
typical content releases, or actually needed to play... Fine.

But if I have to pay extra $ above the $15 to get a zone, contact, or similar
content that would have been an expected part of a "normal" release,
they can cram it.

Unfortunately, that's not an if -- it's a when...

PS> That may sound like a harsh stance to take, but I'm not very optimistic on
the liklihood of this turning out well - there's just too much precedent to
believe otherwise... It has nothing to do with the influx of freebs, and
everything to do with NCsoft (eventually) nickel & diming me incessantly
over and above the $15 monthly fee. I'm hanging in till they prove that
pessimism warranted, but I doubt it'll take them long to do exactly that.

Basically all of this. I don't so much mind occasionally paying for new powersets, missions, etc since I did pay extra for a few when GR came out, BUT I would prefer they be sold a la carte so I can just pay for the ones I want. This should be RARE. As rare as previous paid expansions have been. Once every few years at most. New powersets, proliferation, and new missions/TFs should still be coming to VIPs at no extra cost via issue releases just as they always have.

As far as you list of thing that should never be sold, I am in 100% agreement.

This and the ability to buy the Passport badge. Or finally tie the badge to a server transfer purchase w/ Passport badge and sell it a bit more than a standard server transfer.

Example:

Server Transfer - 100 Paragon Points
Server Transfer w/ Passport badge - 250 Paragon Points

Something like that, of course with different values to the devs liking.

I would be extremely surprised if they did not sell a "2X XP for 1 Hour" inspiration or a "Two bars of Patrol XP" inspiration. Every F2P game with microtransactions has those, and we have the tech for both in place.

But since the whole team matches levels to the team leader, I really don't care at what speed each individual player is leveling anyway.

I currently buy costumes and auras so I don't see that changing. I'm hoping that the impression I've gotten of more of these coming and faster is the correct impression. I will happily spend my points and money for these things. I would say add alternate animations and Fx for powers too if we can get more faster.

The problem is that this messes with game balance and bestows real in-game advantages to those who pay. This is the bane of every F2P game I've ever played, and it's one of the BIGGEST worries I have about Freedom. I've so far only ever seen one F2P game I've wanted to stay with, and I've played a LOT of them. If this game is to become another one, it should avoid "selling out" like that.

Do levels really matter that much anymore? With IO's and Incarnate content, your character has a long way to go at 50. And with the current sidekick system, you don't need to be a high level character in order to play with your high level friends in most content.

I've heard of people disabling XP so they could avoid out-leveling content. How many MMO's have people doing that?

Also, when people are getting powerleveled to 50 in just a few days, I don't see how selling double XP would change anything. If anything it would make regular content more popular as I'm assuming the double XP won't work in AE.

That's like saying "With people committing crimes anyway, why bother with laws to begin with?" Yes, people are getting powerlevelled to 50 in a few days. People SHOULDN'T be getting powerlevelled to 50 in a few days. And we used to be run by a studio that understood this.

I'd just settle for having that annoying bug where the memorized IO tab always shows up open when you open your recipe tab fixed.

Ok, I wouldn't pay for it.

I don't see how comparing it to a crime is fair, seeing as devs never stated power leveling is a bannable offense. Making AE maps that abuse an exploit is bannable, but power leveling?

It harms no one since leveling is a piece of cake anyway, and the real challenge is building your character beyond that.

It's interesting, because this already exists within CoH. There is a Veteran Reward power, called Experienced. It is the 84 month vet reward (IIRC). Under the new system, this power would be available through the Paragon Points system.

Of course, it should only be purchasable once, and it can only be used five times. Patrol XP isn't really that game-breaking, and of course, everyone gets it whenever they log out anyways, so it's not like it's rare ((Actually, F2P players won't get it because they don't have access to day jobs. Unless they pay to unlock that option)).
