C'mon NCSoft... give us an official thread already. We need to talk before you do something so horribly bad as this.

It doesn't work. It may bring a bit of extra funds, but just give us the chance to buy stuff while we P2P and we will. Hell, I've got almost every expansion pack you've sold to date (including buying the DvD edition of the game after buying the normal disc because I wanted that jump pack)

PLEASE don't kill your game. I really like this one. It's fantastic and isn't worth the hell that you are going to inflict on it.

Hmmm, my first reaction was "OMG!! DOOOM!!"

But the way I read it, everyone that already Pays to play can still do this...and get *bonuses* for it too?

Maybe it's because I'm a bit more careful with spending money, so the base game access and what-not is fine for a good while for me...then I incur extra points to spend on stuff every now and then? Seems to work perfectly for me.

For players that have to have everything now, I can see needing to by the newest hottest thing the minute its available might get burned. I'm curious to know how many we have here in each camp.

Also, does this mean we can access the forums without an active account? The times I take a break from the game, it'd be nice to still be able to post and stuff.

It says Time manipulation is a primary for Defenders and a secondary for Controllers, DOMINATORS, and Masterminds.

I think they mean Corrupters and not Dominators. Right?

As tempting as it may be, the F2P conversation would be better directed to the general forums. Might be a better idea to talk about the Archetype & Powers info in Issue 21, like the Time Manipulation powerset, even though there hasn't been a lot of info released on it.

Looks to me that the intent is that paying players will lose nothing and, with nothing extra required, be top of the pile in regards to the new stuff. Plus, an influx of new players previously unable or unwilling to pay. The free players will be second-class super-powered citizens, of sorts. It says free players will have access to 8 Archetypes, which I assume excludes the Epic ATs and probably Controllers and Masterminds.

Am I reading this wrong? I don't see doom here.

Oh, and a VIP-Only (read: no-noobs) server.

OK how many Crazy Stuff has City of heroes tried in past, alot that goes for AE, ALIGNMENT Change, Going Rogue and Incarnates. Am I worries Yes but things always work out for us right folks, they still need too buy a copy of the game too play for free, am I right or wrong here. I have my faith in them please show them Faith as well, I am Scared too death right now but I no things will be good later.

I don't see this as a bad thing, as the free players will only have 2 characters each, its doubtful that the servers will be swamped with an influx.

Probably good in the long run for the games longevity.

You know what, I used to be against F2P because I always wanted to feel special and I wanted my voice to be heard. Paying customers tend to have more rights than non-paying ones. If I feel something is wrong, I'll voice my opinion and I hope my voice/concern is heard.


During the time I took a break from this game, I've tried two F2P games and in both of them, I ended up paying MORE per month because I had to buy extra slots, bag space and whatnot. Allods is one of the games I've tried. The bag space is so freaking small that I had to spend like $19.99 to buy extra bag. $19.99 is more than one month subscription!!!


I am also impatient. If I know there is a new powerset that can be unlocked by doing numerous grinding or can be locked by purchasing, I always choose purchasing. My business is growing and TIME is more valuable to me. I rather spend the money now to try new things than waiting to be unlocked.


It seems like most major games are switching to F2P. I won't trash it for now because if it happens, it happens. I am not so old that I want to resist any new changes. I am going to be open minded for now and see what happens. As long as the VIP portion of it is handled well, and it gives the company more money to develop the game, then I am fine with it.


The article mentions that new "powers" can be purchased? If that means I can buy a new power for an existing powerset, then I'll definitely do it. :P

Basically every micro-payment game I have tried became the domain of hackers/exploiters. I sincerely hope that the CoX folks have the tools to deal with that aspect of the F2P space. Or am I the only one that tried Combat Arms, or remembers the days of playing Diablo II online? (okay, that one pre-dates the micropayment model, but omg was it the wild west of exploiters or what?)

The content side of this update looks ... awesome. Time Manip? Sweet! New zone? Excellent.

I too am concerned about what happens if I unsub for a while and return, are all of my toons nuked down to 2 per server and the rest lost?

My guess is that upon dropping the vip status, a player will be given a choice to "grey out" all but 2 characters, and they will become reusable again once a payment is made. They specifically said that no characters would be lost, just temprarily unplayable. And it's really not changing anything negatively at all for current players. We still pay the EXACT SAME AMOUNT so I don't see why people are complaining. I see as now I can play a few toons even if I don't pay for a while. My account is hardly ever down as is, and I suspect the average player is in the same situation so I don't see how it is a negative change at all. And we get extra stuff for doing the exact same thing we are already doing.

as long as the game does not turn into a P2W model, where advanced enhancements, recipes, etc.. are available to buy with real money... all will be fine.

If it does go that route, then I know plenty of peeps, myself included that wont hesitate to go elsewhere.

We will have to wait and see.
