All Things Art - FX Edition
I would like to suggest with some time ahead the removing of the artifact for the medicine pool. If you guys cant update the VFX for something less techy and more general, would be cool if we could just heal without any artifact.
Thanks! |
Either way, I'm glad we're finally getting pool power customization at all. Thank you Honey Badger and Tunnel Rat!
I'd like to see some of the aura options moved out of the aura section and into the different body parts.
For example:
When we choose a hairstyle I'd like to be offered the option of selecting one of the hair auras to go along with it.
Same with eyes when we select a face.
Maybe add the head auras under details. I know Beastly rage would look great with the various animal/monster heads
Same with the hand auras.
I have a lot of concepts that would look better if I could customize my auras with bits from different ones, and have different colors for each.
Red glowing eyes
beastly rage breath
golden magic runes around the hands in combat
blue light sparkles on the torso
and the seismic movement pathing aura
I think I've chimed in before about these suggestions, but no harm in asking again
- Updated FX for Force Fields please! It's such an iconic comicbook powerset, and yet the graphics look like soap bubbles.
- Minimal FX for the domination inherent power. No more rainbow glow please!
Thanks for looking!
Right thread?
Being that Water Blast has an open palette; can we get the decision to not allow Ice to do the same reversed?
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

Hey guys!
Just caught a little break so I thought Id check in! Im crazy busy these days finishing up all the powers we announced at the summit, so Im sorry I havent been able to respond very quickly here. Lots of great ideas, so lets get right to it: daveyJ3- Yes, Synapse is the genius number-cruncher to send your powers requests to. Wind Blast was one of the many suggestions we got at the player summit, and like we said, we kept all suggestions! So rest assured we know all about that one! ScarletShocker- Thats a great idea, I will definitely explore your suggestion for dark auras. The clunker aura, with the trail only option might work for you though! I made that one specifically to look like leaking oil, so you can tint it black! It wont be as dark as a dark aura version may one day be, but maybe it could hold you over until I make one? Thanks guys! Weve built up quite a collection of ideas for auras and CCemotes now, but I could always use more! I want to hoard them until there's enough to dive in all Scrooge McDuck style! Keep em comin'! |
I've never met you before on the site or in game but, I was told of your existence recently and thought I'd say hi.
I'm currently a self employed game developer working on an 'indie' title yet to be announced.
anyways, I'm kinda straight-forwards about my intentions; I'm trying to make whip melee and subsequent other possibly ranged or control based powersets because I really want to see it in game.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=293917
I emphasize 'make' because I'd like to do the modelling, rigging, texturing and coding. sadly I'm not part of paragon studious so, I don't know what file formatts the cryptic engine supports.
anyways I'm sure I can do it because I've done this sort of thing before for my last animation, putting it into a GE should be simple for me. and it wont cost much video mem, processor allocation or many polies.
any chance of telling me a suitable file formatt for the set-up?
right now I can export to fbx 3ds (not max) and unity (as well as others). for scripting I can definitely get python scripts if necessary.
This is kind of both VFX and costume, but, would it be possible to have a "All Sword" and "All Punch" options for Fire Melee?
So Fire Sword, Greater Fire Sword, and Fire Sword Circle would have fire punch or fire plume animations, and Scorch, Cremate, and Incinerate would have sword attack animations. Breath Of Fire, Build Up, and Confront/Taunt would keep their current animation options (although a 'flamethrower from hand' option would be kind of neat for Breath of Fire).
To me, this seems fairly significant, so I understand if it's a bit much. But it would be really great for a lot of Fire Melee players -- there are already quite a few vanity builds that skip half the powers in the set to get a particular 'look.'
Let's talk about bubbles.
The Bubbles Path aura drives me crazy. The Bubbles part is great, but it's ruined (for me, anyway) by the Path's "mud pots" ground effect, where the bubbles come from the large patch of bubbling ground all around you. The Dark Matter aura, meanwhile, looks much closer to what I'm hoping for, however they're not bubbles, just Kirby dots.
So what I'd like to request is an full aura that combined the "bubble" effects of the Bubble Path aura with something similar to the look/placement of the Dark Matter (Kirby Dots) aura -- i.e. bubbles coming from me, not bubbling out of some mud-pot ground around me.
Thanks for listening,
d
In the 'Tendrils' aura, we can have 'Body' or 'Eyes'...
However, we cannot have 'Body and Eyes'.
Why not? I could use this, please?
Be Well!
Fireheart
Woot! I can breathe again!
Sorry I havent posted for a while, those power pool bugs weighed heavy on me! Thanks for all you beta posters reporting bugs and leaving feedback on the new powers and power pool customization, it was all very helpful! Im really glad when I get to make so many of you happy!
Lets get to answering some of your posts here:
OmniNogard I believe there is a breath fx included in the Beastly Rage aura, could that work for you?
Kheprera This Ethereal aura is very doable, but a number of players in the past expressed concerns with having their costumes hidden by things like auras. I could consider it though, maybe you could rally support troops?
Yogi Bare Setting up alternate FX takes just as long as creating new fx. This is not to say that we wont do Eyes, Mouth, or pinkie toe version of powers in the future, just sayin it may be a while.
DerangedPoly That kind of was the idea I had while making them. I am waiting on tech to make purchasable alternates, that way I can justify the time it will take to do complete makeovers for old powersets.
Daveyj Again, I would love to redo some of these old sets, see above.
Vyver Ah, so that was it. Ok, Ill note that.
Snowzone yes, sorry.
Paradox The cracks on the ground (the term for them is splats) are not tintable due to both design and function.
Sam Tow I saw that one when messing with power pools. Not much I can do about that at the moment, Ill add it to the your list of woes :P
Zyphoid Thanks! Glad you like them! As for your suggestion, I was kind of thinking of doing something like that when I get to doing that Radiation Armor set
Redlynne Power Pool Customization win! BTW, saw that they worked that mouse pointer for giant monitors thing you were talking about at the summit. First World Problem -fixed! LoL
Angelxman Unfortunately, we only had time to make the power pool fx tintable for customization. Makeovers will have to wait, sorry.
Forbin Project Auras can only have a single costume slot, this is why we cannot mix and match that way.
Telepath yeah, inherent powers did not (and may not ever) get customization love. Im thinking of updating the fx for the biggest offenders, which right now consist of that domination one and the sprint. Again, it may be a while before you see that, so dont hold your breath!
Jack Nomind That is a design call, the powers are very dependent right now on those mechanics.
Stonehead I get that, noted!
Fireheart Ill look at that next time I mess with auras
Kheprera – This Ethereal aura is very doable, but a number of players in the past expressed concerns with having their costumes hidden by things like auras. I could consider it though, maybe you could rally support troops?

As part of powers people have an issue with it, because they feel as if they're forced into it (To get the benefit of this power you don't get to see your costume).
As an Aura it's completely optional. Anyone who dislikes not being able to see their avatar can simply not use that aura.
Win-win, imo.
Also, Thank you Honey Badger, for caring.
Thanks for popping in, reading what looks like everything and responding in kind.
*Pinkie toe blasts are so 1980s; we need something more enduring and versatile... like hunched over butt-blasting (should work for summon powers as well).

*Do we have a bubble (non-path)aura yet?
Going to miss the fun and nice people here at CoH. Feel free to add me on PS3/XBox360

This is a bit of a cross-post as I just discovered this thread and didn't realize part of my request in Dink's costume thread really should be over here:
WING EMOTES:
I'm thinking primarily of birds, but these could work for any wings with the right rig...Angel, Demon, Dragon, etc. Might even work with the Mecha wings. Not sure how they'd work with the tiny wings (Cherub, Bat), Insect, or Fairy wings (might require special variant animations).
--/em wingdisplay -- wings open out straight and up at 45° angle and hold
--/em wingspread -- similar to wingdisplay only out at a 90° angle (wing edge parallel to ground)
--/em wingflap -- some variant of the "few flaps before landing" animation (that "FLAP...flapflapflap" thing), just one that we can trigger while on the ground. Imagine how annoyed birds sit there and flap their wings a few times.
--/em wingpoint -- some kind of "pointing at you" with the arm AND wing pointing
--/em wingthreaten -- I can visualize in my head but hard to desribe, but it would be like /em angry only incorporate the wings (maybe "/em angry" + "/em wingdisplay" from above?)
Just seems to me there are alot of emotes that would be fun to have a "winged" variant...right now the wings are kinda passive outside flying and jumping. Not complaining, the wings and all their various animations are VERY cool. I still marvel at them all these years later.
Another two just sprang to mind too:
--New Flight Pose for winged characters, "Soar." Basically instead of flapping wings it would put the wings out straight as if gliding (honestly, not unlike the static wing position on the larger Mecha wings).
--A variant of the Hover animation for wings...instead of flapping it would be "cupped" wings the way some birds use their wings like "scoops" to stay in place in windier conditions. Of course this might be a problem for characters, myself included, who hover-combat as such a "scoop" post would certainly be more of a view-blocker to other players than flapping is.
CURRENT MAINS: Akero (V) | Polly Spark (V) | Project MALWARE (V) | Barium Bunny (VIP)
ACTIVE INCARNATES: Polly's Revenge (V) | Stygian Kitten (V) | Archon Abrasax (V) | Alpha Antares (V)
Felines | Wolves | Avians | Bovines | Griffons | Centaurs | Insects | Robots
What, you really think HUMANS are going to save the world? LOL!

That's why we've got to stow the barrel and focus on internal combustion (besides, those outdated pipes couldn't push out a Bruiser if it tried)...
