If you don't think so now, you will later on. Syrio Forel is awesome. The casting for him is really good.

Don't say no more! I haven't read the books so I don't know what's happening next!

Agreed. I've been happy with most/all of the casting, but his casting was particularly brilliant.

I had my doubts about Dinklage as Tyrion, tbh, but he is fully nailing the role and I expect to see him up for an Emmy next year.

Before the news came out that HBO was going to make a series out of this, I always pictured Dinklage playing Tyrion.

I love the character in the books - indeed, I'd even go so far as to name him the actual protagonist of the story - and the actor has nailed the character in my eyes thus far (though I'd agree with a previous poster's SO's assessment that he's not ugly/physically twisted enough).

While I understand how his appearance is explained in the books, I actually think it works that he isn't portrayed as twisted and ugly. It shows the Lannister in him, but also the defect (that's perceived defect before anyone bows up on me). He's just goodlooking enough to be of that family. I think in a way, it's even more tragic. Plus Dinklage is such a good actor, it's worth a slight change in the character and I don't think covering up his facial reactions with makeup would benefit the performace. Bottom line: he IS Tyrion.

I started reading this week for that very reason.

It was driving me crazy. The guy playing Lord Baelish...I'd seen him somewhere before, but couldn't quite place him (the facial hair, the accent, etc.)

I finally checked IMDB, and it's the guy who played Tommy Carcetti on HBO's "The Wire" for three seasons. Love how HBO seems to keep bringing back their stars for other shows.

(And if you've never seen "The Wire" you should definitely check it out. Season 4 might be the best season of any TV show ever in the history of TV.)

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

Yep, pretty awesome. It was great how so many of the actors in the Wire were from across the pond and you'd never have known watching the show. And yeah the 4th season was pretty awesome; and heartbreaking. I'm also a big fan of Season 2.

So far the show has maintained a rather excellent level of consistency through 5 episodes. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Michelle Fairley (Lady Stark), and Sean Bean (Eddard Stark) all continue to impress. I appreciate that the director didn't show us the story from the Targaryen/Dothraki point of view, since their side of things was covered fairly well by the other characters' discussion.

Did anyone else find the whole 'we'll prevent Khal Drogo from waging war against us on behalf of the Targaryen's by killing his wife and unborn child' strategy a little on the ridiculous side? Killing a warlord's pregnant wife seems to me to be the perfect way to start the war you're trying to avoid. I understand the whole Targaryen angle, but it still seems a little ridiculous to get rid of one enemy in exchange for an even more dangerous enemy.

The conversation between the king and queen was done really well, and struck me as being the first 'honest' conversation those two have likely had in some time.

The sword fight between Stark and Lannister seemed a bit off, although not terribly so.

Don't know if I'll get around to reading the books, but I'm certainly enjoying the show.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

I certainly did. "We're worried about 40,000 horse lords showing up on our shores and laying waste to the countryside." Yeah...but ticking Drogo off might be a good way for 80,000 horse lords to show up on your shores and lay waste to the countryside.

Loved that scene. It seems the two of them might have found some common ground between them.

I don't envy Tyrion's current predicament at all (I'm afraid of heights), and that scene where he was looking down from his cell made me pretty uncomfortable while in my living room (credit due to the special effects peeps).

That was probably the best episode so far in a rock solid series.

So, my wife started watching GoT and pressured me into watching it. I got caught up through episode 4 on Staurday and saw 5 last night.

I really like the show so far. The characters are well done, the writing and acting are top notch, and the production design is excellent. The sets alone should win someone an Emmy, they're just gorgeous.

Tyrion is by far my favorite character. The actor playing Tyrion - Peter Dinklage - is just amazing, as I've seen mentioned several times already in this thread. From seeing Dinklage as Dr. Simon Barsinister in the live-action Underdog movie (I've seen it far too many times; my son loves it :/), I never would have pegged him as such a good actor. I'm very pleasantly surprised and always look forward to more scenes with him.

Now I need to get the books.

The horselords *REALLY* don't like the "poison water". They don't trust any water that you can't drink, and have no ships. It'd take more than the death of Dany to get them to cross the sea to get to Westeros. I don't think they covered Dothraki culture enough on the show to get that across

You should rent The Station Agent

Killing of the Khalisi (sorry, can't remember her first name) could prevent the invasion if it were done right. If they were able to slip her some of those Tears of Whatever - the undetecable poison - and make it look like natural causes, it would work, but a less subtle tactic would surely invite the wrath of Khal Drogo and the whole Dothraki army.

I'm curious to see whether Daenerys (had to look it up) will become a moderating influence and call off the whole invasion, content to be the queen of the Dothraki, or if her newfound taste of power will whet her appetite for more.

Also, I think the opening scene in the throne room of the Eyrie is one of the most disturbing things I've seen on TV in a while. How the heck old was the actor playing that kid, and if he's no older than he looks... *shudder*

They've mentioned a few times that the Dothraki won't cross the narrow sea, but there's been no mention of "poison water" as of yet. It looks like we're going to get more on Dany and "The Dragon" next episode. (I suspect "The Dragon" will soon be an ex-Dragon, but I could be wrong.)

The slave trader guy told Daenerys something to the effect of, "The Dothraki won't cross any water their horses can't drink," so I assume that's what's meant by "poison water."

It is. The Dothraki use the term poison water when referring to seawater in the books.

Its more than just the Targaryen angle. Theres 7 houses in Westeros, 2 of which (at least) would definitely side with Dany if she comes back. That means the Horsemen would have a place to land and stage from. Without infrastructure they are not a worrisome force on the same level they were before.

No one in Westeros would side with the Dothraki if there was no Targaryens (ie legitimate claim to the Iron Throne) with them. Which, of course, is the reason Robert wanted her dead. That and no Targaryens, no Dothraki invasion in the first place.

It's unfortunately you first saw Dinklage in a paycheck job. Definitely rent The Station Agent, like mousedroid said. He's done Shakespeare (Richard III), and he was great in the single season of Threshold. Dinklage is an amazing actor, and he was born to play Tyrion Lannister.
