In Praise of the Endgame
I certainly wouldn't mind a "weekly" of some sort, but I'm guessing that wont come until there's a lot more trials to choose from.
I only have two heroes on the incarnate path, and one of them I didn't touch at all except to do the WST and I've made substantial progress on them based on the time I actually spent playing them, despite over a month of real-life time passing. I'm not in any real hurry, I guess. :x |

My group of friends and I have been running a lot of the BAF and Lambda Trials. Of all the Trials I've been on at day 1 and on, we've won them all. This is a blast! I'm seriously having so much fun!
My friends and I are seriously impressed with the Trials, but even more so with the new Incarnate powers. I'm already 50(+2)!

If not, or don't play on Freedom, well....it's not so easy.
As everybody on union knows, im loving these trials, especially the BAF
Currently i have *thinks*
Tier 1 barrier
Tier 1 clarion
Tier 1 rebirth
Tier 1 seers
Tier 3 ion
My next target is the IDF then i have the base setup complete for any scenario i feel, then i can work my way up the tiers of each one. So far we have been grouping in either pocket D or RWZ due to the co-op but thats normal and fun
i20 to me = HUGE hit

I think this sums up I20 nicely. If you have a preset group of friends, you are good to go.

I disagree, on union where we dont have as many players as your NA servers, nearly every trial i've formed has been broadcasting via the global channels for the server. Each time been easy to fill, infact our official badge trial has had to put up with nonstop trials being formed.

Disagree. All 4 servers I play on meet and form trials in pocket d. There is a good chance yours does too.

The best thing is all the while we were forming leagues, the Liberty global channels were full of people forming ITFs etc- so if Trials aren't your thing you weren't left out.
These Trials are FUN.. the only hectic parts were the race through Lambda for the Temps. Beyond that.. it was challenging, but just as fun as a RSF or anything else I've done. I20 is a success in my book! (Hell, my successful BAF was done with no deaths on my part, and only 2 deaths for me on the successful Lambda!)

One thing I forgot to add... it seems your best chance to succeede is to form the League before entering the Turnstile. The good thing is I see no sign of the exclusion of any AT in forming, the Trials are equal to all.

It would be nice to run a trial without being booted mid run. I've tried a few times now and haven't made it to Maruader once. It's quite disappointing.
The good news is I've been 30% progress towards Interface, right? Yay?

It's as easy as it gets.
I'm liking the trials so far. They offer varied gameplay, they're quick and pose a challenge (for now at least.)
Are they a grind? Yes. A bit more than I had hoped, but far from as bad as I had feared. The biggest problem is that there are only two of them at the moment compared to the 4 slots you have to unlock and fill, which leads to a lot of repetition if you're the type who wants to fully equip all your 20 50s in the next 2 weeks.
I'll stick to my main for now, but still it would be nice if extra trials could be released sooner (say 1 per month would be nice) between issues rather than having to wait 4-6 months for the next issue to bring the next trials.

I like the style of the new content. It's short and fast, based on difficulty not drudgery, emphasizes skill and teamwork over turning every mission into a defeat all, and incorporated some unique objectives. I especially like that the trials encourage everyone to move at a fast pace and penalize standing around for too long (e.g. reinforcing Siege/Nightstar) and enjoy the speedrun-like pace of the trials. Mechanics like sequestration warnings that discourage any one character holding aggro all the time and reduce the need for tankers are encouraging and should be implemented more frequently in future content. More generally, it's also good to see team-based content being rewarded more than solo farming is.
Downsides are that components are being handed out far too liberally. Right now, it's less an endgame and more two trials that people will blitz for a month and stop once all their characters have a Very Rare in each slot; making rewards too accessible also defeats the idea that Incarnates should feel powerful, special and 'stand out in a crowd' per the Producer's Letter. Costs for Rare and Very Rare components should be increased, and influence/reward merits added to the crafting costs for higher tiers so that people have to play a variety of content to advance.
I didn't think I would like it this much. I just find 'em that fun. The goals, the race against time, the sense of ergency.
Haven't been able to beat BAF yet, but I do Lambda at the drop of a hat. Hoping for more of these in the future.
*cough* RULARUU *cough*
Actions speak louder than Vets.

My first runs on the beta server I hated both Lambda and BAF.
Subsequent attempts, a little better understanding, and I grugdingly hated BAF and grudgingly accepted Lambda.
Now we find ourselves live, and that assessment has not changed.
I have a passionate dislike for BAF... there is no meaningful way to control the adds at the end and unless you work fast or have plenty of soft control to limit the 9CUs the league gets overwhelmed and once that happens I do not see a way to overcome (but maybe I'm still missing something).
Lambda has strategy and action to control the final phase that a team can exercise and earn success. I like that.
BAF you have to brute force a solution - as far as I can tell so far. And that feels icky, a bit. *shrug*

I would think this wouldn't help at all; in fact it would probably do the opposite.
If something takes 1 month (I'll be generous) for those "Min/maxers" (whatever you want to call 'em) to get the Very Rare on all 4 slots and you think they'll stop after that month which leaves the 'normal people' out to dry after that month. And let's say it will take the 'normal people' 2 months to get the Very Rare on all 4 slots (again being generous).
If you extend that time so that it takes the "min/maxers" now 2 months; I think it would be a multiplication of effort for the "normal people"; so instead of 2 months for them, it's probably now like 4 months. *shrugs*
Obviously I don't know if people will be playing these two trials in 2 months from now but I would say/think that they would be played.
Maybe if/when more of these Trials come out, that the devs could institute a new "Weekly Strike Target" type of thing for Trials...that way it helps people focus on one Trial a week and helps 'normal people' out more...
I know, I for one, wouldn't want an increase to how long it will take to get the Very Rares in the new slots....I barely have much time to play until Saturdays (and then errands come in

Yesterday I logged in just to check my auctions when I woke up and found myself in a BAF league with just about every Supergroup on our server represented. As we were a Pug with a leader who never led it before, we failed, but it was fun. Right after we formed a LAMBDA with some of the first league and we succeeded.
Then I spent about 8-10 hours offline as I went to class and got dinner. When I got back in I get another invite for a BAF, this time mainly consisting of people from my global and a few PUGs.
We succeed.
Not only do we succeeded, there was only one or two deaths at the beginning because people hit lag and ran into mobs (myself included). The fact that people are now unlocking judgement and destiny slots is making this thing easier for us all.
After that we did one more LAMBDA and I led the second team going after crates. Just as we started our search, 6 people on my team crashed. We managed to still get 2 grenades out of it. Everyone returned in time for Marauder. Even with just 2 grenades we managed to stick together, get the rest from weapon shipments, and then take out Marauder using only 6 total. Yes, there was a lot of deaths, but we did it with time to spare and with style.
To say I'm loving issue 20 would be an understatement.

Logged on last night with my 51 crab.
Clicked LFG, clicked enter with defaults. First attempt dumped me right back in Oro where I started.
Second time entered again. Got in to a lambda, followed team to first mob on the left, somebody died, once person dropped and then everybody else quit.... WTH?
Third time cleared a few mobs, went in and the DPS check... err security bot stopped us (only 7 people left). Decided to clear all the mobs for xp. Team quit when all the mobs are gone. (Interface around 60% or more now)
4th time. I get lead star... ok um. Lets clear all! At the start we had nine. I push us all but the poor blaster into 1 team. blaster quits. We clear all, its easy one guy has his ION and uses it alot (he rocked). All clear, go in to the bot, he goes down. without any orders 1/2 the team goes for weapons other for acids. We get a couple each. Big speach, we farm the acids and close all the portals. Clear all the mobs around AV and engage. Along the way use use pacifiers, and AV goes down. We are all shocked. An 8 man pug with a "leader" that has never got even close wins. Interface is unlocked and I get an uncommon as a reward.
I go back to pocket D and get picked up on a 16 man league for lamda. We failed on the AV at the end. Sorta strange how the 8 man with no real leadership could win but the 16 man failed. Ah well.
I LOVE IT! Can't wait to do some BAF runs hopefully tonight.
THANK YOU Paragon!

I like that if I chose to, I can skip Trapdoor and his bifurcations as well as the room full of "get nothing for killing them" Rikti.
What I don't like is the darn door lock at the Hospital. Come on guys 20 seconds after you just got curb stomped seems like an eternity! I'm itching to get back in the fight as fast as possible.
The other thing that's making me nuts is that I have even more types of currencies to keep track of.
I'm liking the trials themselves, and I wish the reward table wasn't random. Tuesday night, we completed Lambda, I got the rare reward window, was about to claim it, and the server crashed. When the server came back, my reward was gone. Ever since, I've gotten nothing but the common window.
There is one minor quirk about BAF that bit me in the butt last night. The health bar for the AV's should not say zero until they are dead-dead. Last night, we fought Nightstar and Siege and pretty much wiped the floor with them, until Nightstar's health said 0 (apparently her health was at 0.5 really), she was on the ground, and everyone switched to Siege. Nightstar got back up, Siege went down, reinforcements came, and we got pounded. Even in failure, it was fun though. Unlike those early RSF days...

Logged on, did an LFG, ended up with 8 guys, got Marauder down to 19% when the timer ran out
Great fun was had by all

Last night I led my first (and second) Lambdas. The first we came SO close to finishing - maybe 10-20 seconds more and we would have had Marauder. It was still a ton of fun, and I didn't feel in the least like our time was wasted.
Also, the fail was for completely avoidable reasons : some people just refused to listen. I know at least one of them had league chat on because they paused to insult me before leaving at the end :P.
Please folks:
1. Actively monitor your league channel
2. listen to your League leaders and
3. If they ask or tell you to do something don't take it personally.
The second was composed of pretty much everyone from the first run sans the people that didn't listen + folks to fill in for those that left - including some first timers that listened and did well, as expected. It went off without a hitch and was just a solid blast.
Both times we went 10/10 and got those merits. I hear it's much easier to get the Astrals in the BAF, so I'm looking forward to finally trying that tonight.
After 4 runs I've got a T2 interface (Reactive.Is.Good. O.O) and 11% into unlocking Destiny.
Oh, and I love I20 so far, even though I know that I'll never get all my alpha'd alts (~28) through all 4 new slots...

Loving issue 20, the incarnate system, and the variety of abilities and build we will see. These raids along with Apex and Tin Mage are just top notch content.
