What Build Makes You Feel Good?
Blaster. They just feel the most like comic book characters to me. Who doesn't like shooting blasts of energy?
My two faves at the moment are.. (i know you said to pick one but i couldn't)
A Warmace/ Elec Brute... smacking down mobs with a bone and hearing that wonderful crunching sound, lots of AoE, fast recharge so they just keep falling and enough end to cope with it all.
... and diametrically opposed
A Crab... with Leviathan powers. She's got 6 perma pets, ranged def and she hover blasts, so not much touches her. Great def and res debuffs and the pets do the rest.
They couldn't be more different and maybe that's why i keep alternating when i play them. They are both team and solo friendly so it's a win win situation.
Mmm...
It depends what i smy mood or emotional need, and if soloing for emotional release or teaming for camaraderie.
Soling:
If I had a tough day at work, I want to play an AT that is truly super, basically unstoppable, for that! Just about any Melee will do, but Tankers are best in PvE. Lots of resistance, defense, hitpoints, regen, huge MAG resistance to Mez effects (almost immune), very nice resistances to debuffs as well. Tanker is the class to just go out there and have fun with out worry. My favorite is a Shield/EM lots of AOE damage...
Now if I feel like being challenged, and not have the game handed to me in a silver platter, none beats the Defender. I have the weakest damage, no protection versus mez, no really good area mez (but I do have good individual mez), not much for hit points or regeneration, defense is patchy, about a third of my primary powers don't even work for me, in general a very nice handicapped AT for solo play and thus maximum challenge. For this I prefer a Storm/Dark Defender, they can be very satisfying.
Teaming:
Obviously I am not doing this to release tension from my mean boss, instead I am more in a socializing mood. Thus I want a more laid back AT that lets me help all, not quite be the center of interest, and not find myself as a personal servant to some other AT player.
For this the best is the Dominator, hands down. You do your thing, and help the group and there are no Bozos demanding SB, CM and what not... My Choice: Mind/Psi Dominatrix.
Grinding Missions for influence, recipes or whatever:
Obviously you are looking for a cash cow for your other ALTs, but want to have fun. For this the Master Mind reigns supreme, they are versatile, and they are a team all to themselves. If properly played, the have the best of both the melee and support worlds. My choice: Dark/Necro

WM/SD/Body Brute. The opponent matters not as it all results in total carnage in favor of me. Well, usually at least.
Plant/Psi/Soul Dom. Confuse/holds/creepers, drain AoE drain AoE AoE. Rinse repeat.
Thugs/Traps/Mace MM. See above brute.
VEATs. Self explanatory.
I've always been a big fan of electric and ice powers.
There's nothing more satisfying than wiping out mobs with Lightning Rod or Thunder Strike.
As far as pure laughs go, Ice Patch delivers. Watching mobs slip and fall on their butts repeatedly is pretty hysterical.
My Stone/Stone Tank.
My Dark/Fire Brute.
My Widow.
My Archery blaster(s).
Those are the top ones; others still feel great, but those are the most visceral (at this moment).
Arc #6015 - Coming Unglued
"A good n00b-sauce is based on a good n00b-roux." - The Masque
for pure fun I LOVE my shield/MA scrapper....
No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded...
"The potato goes in the FRONT."
Kate Beckinsale's.
Grav/Storm controller. Hurricanes, lightning bolts, and everything that isn't mine being flung around like rag dolls.
My favorite and most fun toon to play is probably my Fire/Fire blaster. Carnage. Lots and lots and lots of it. And he's really sturdy too and outlasts many melee toons, so that's twice the fun.
Very close second is my Fire/Cold corruptor.

Main Hero: Inferno Sparky - Fire/Fire Blaster
Main Villain: Kerry Astrid - Fire/Cold Corruptor
I'll have to say my bot/traps MM. I've thrown so much time and inf into her that there is literally nothing she can't do (I've duo'ed ITFs, and LGTFs, and solo'ed about 80% of the RSF, before incarnate powers)
Shes my destress, and kill things character.
My Soup(er) of the Day is a Fire/Traps Corruptor. Soloed my first GM on him and that makes me happy because I never have to do it again ;P
Before that, it was a Elec/Dark Brute, a Bots/Storm MM, a Spines/Fire scrapper.... I'll stop now because I have 7 years worth of alts to run through...
My Huntsman/Bane ...
I can go in with guns blazing and grenades exploding, and enough def to take the alpha (usually)
or
stealth in, buildup and "executioner's strike" with shatter, then crowd control and bayonet.
Shoot 'em, smack 'em, blow 'em up and stab 'em. All in the name of "arresting"
I'm having a total blast with my first (and only-) Mastermind character... She's Ninja/Force Field and still a relative lowbie, but knocking things all over creation and watching her henchmen go after them like a trio of evil, pajama-clad hamsters is just all kinds of fun. I've also enjoyed the sheer destructiveness of my fire/energy Blaster and favorite, ridiculously over-equiped DB/WP Scrap.
When it comes to pairs (since FCM and I duo a lot-), our Nightwidow/Crab pair, that Tazmanian Devil of a Scrap of mine and FCM's Shield Tank, and our pair of "mad cow" minotaurs (a Mace/Shield Tank and KM/Shield Brute) are all terrifying in the best possible way.
The Bane/Fire Dom combination is also proving to be fairly frightening... And that's only made worse by both being tiny little chibi-things. They're both highly dangerous and absolutely adorable.
@Brightfires - @Talisander
That chick what plays the bird-things...
My fortunata/widow. Both builds are fun. I get good team/solo Def numbers, I can scrap or mezblast and I don't get mezzed. I can also stealth around pretty well when the need arises and have recall on my team build.
For years, I've really liked my Fire/Ice Blaster, but there are times when I get mezzed that were frustrating (particularly before you could use you 3 basic attacks). Lately, I've also experimented with his nemesis, a Fire/Cold Corruptor, which isn't quite as fun solo, but still nice in teams.
I am a blaster at heart. I love my fire/fire/flame so much that all my other blasters.... they werent half as fun and got deleted.
I think i have one other balster, and rarely play him because damn, if I want a f un balster, i jsut get on Longboard.
It helps that he fits on every team, while most of my others are support types or tanks... and tanking is kind of a lost art and hard to get on teams with these days.
I love my Grav/FF/Fire
Propel feels like telekinesis to me even though it's pegged differently, however all comic toons who use TK tent to hurl people or objects at folks. Gravity has lift as well as propel which is awesome.
Plus...utilizing arguably the most powerfull force in the universe is ten times more impressive than any power in the game. Energy, fire, Earth...all of these things are awesome, but gravity? Come on! You are using the stuff of universal creation. Thats impressive.
However, darkness powers re impressive because of the theme of using something unharnessed and always prevelent.
For AT's though controllers win for me. Not because they are uber powerfull but because they control the very powers of the universe. Not in the form of blasts but in their natural forms, summoning them at their whim.
In most comic books these would be your most powerfull feared opponents, or the ones the enemies fear because of their primal links to manipulate things that only were controllable by concepts of unseen gods!
On that token. Shooting things is cool too!
Dark Melee/ Shield Defense scrapper all the way something about the giant pile of bodies after a battle makes me feel accomplished
In the beginning the universe was created, this upset many people and is widely regarded as a bad idea.
Dont hate the minty freshness
Fire/TA Corruptor. Oh what fun it is to make burning messes everywhere and watch the baddies melt away LOL
She is a great team and solo toon.
You have two different questions there -
What floats my boat, and what would I suggest for someone else.
For me, if I had only one AT to use... I'd go read a book. If I absolutely HAD to choose, it'd probably be one of my Khelds.
For someone else - it just starts a line of questions. "What/how do you like to play," for instance.
My top three:
- My 50 Bots/Pain/Heat Mastermind. Nothing quite so gratifying as watching enemies get blown across rooms at the stroke of a single key.
- My 25 SS/Willpower brute. BAM! BOOM! CRASH! WHAM! "OKAY, I KNOW THERE'S MORE OF YOU PANSIES IN HERE THAN THIS!"
- My 26 DP/Elec blaster. Say what you will about the set, I think it looks pretty badass, especially if you chain the right attacks. Plus it sets up some of the most magnificent ironies in the game if you stealth a radio mission with a boss named Lincoln, and finish him with Executioner's Shot.
Currently my Bots/Storm MM is just a blast to play and I laugh every time I cause utter chaos as the mobs die. It is just so much fun to open every fight with tornado!
If I had to pick an AT though it would be Brutes. I have taken 8 of them to 50 with several more on the way.
My Ill/Rad, "Area Man," is still my all time favorite and can handle most situations and always contribute in many different ways. He is kind of my Rennaisance Man.
My Elec/Shield Scrapper, "Ohm Depot," is always fun with capped defenses and the ability to wipe out huge groups with a "BU-Wham-Bam" . . . thank you, Ma'am.
My Earth/Storm Controller, "Ella M. Ental," can stand back and fully neuter large groups . . . I love the combo of Stalagmites-Freezing Rain-Quicksand, with a little bit of Earthquake thrown in at the end and the ability to "herdicane" to push foes into the area, and then Lightning Storm to zap 'em when they are helpless while Rocky runs around smacking baddies.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

After reading responses to my Fire/Dark cor question, I got to thinking.
Some builds are just plain fun. They make you smile, maybe even giggle maniacally.
What floats your boat? One single AT combo to choose above everything in your server list(s).
For me it is my Fire/Storm controller. Damage, control, team support, chaos incarnate and lots and lots of orange numbers... It's truly the combo for blowing off steam for me (at 50).
If someone asked you "what should I play? I want to have fun?" How would you answer?
