Callisto (Hudson Leick) managed to look hardcore when she wanted as well as soft and pretty.
That looks to be more about the personality, than anything else. The look on her face. Which means the new WW could of just been doing a quick pose in the outfit, rather than trying to look the part.

And truthfully, I'd think someone like Lucy Lawless would be all wrong for Wonder Woman. That's not the build for Wonder Woman either.

Seems to be more of a "I want realism in my superheroes" which tend to have the looks of models as it is anyways.

I suppose we could all quibble over whether Adrianne Palicki is "amazony" enough or not for the role until the cows come home. But seriously, trying to offer up Hudson Leick as someone who's "significantly different" to Adrianne is a lot like the episode of Futurama when they were making the joke about the two presidential candidates being politically unique despite being identical clones:

I don't mind the idea of comparing Adrianne to someone who's a little more "stout" like Lucy Lawless, but let's not bother comparing Apples to Apples shall we.

Well there is a legitimate question about whether Wonder Woman should be a bit more "built" than your average swimsuit model or not. All I know for sure is that no matter who they got to play the role there was going to be some kind of "backlash" to her one way or the other. There's no way one real live woman is ever going to be able to embody everyone's "mental concept" of what the character should be and the many posts on this thread is proving that.

I like the colors of the photoshopped pic a bit better as well. I could actually stand for the pants to be a blue color because I'm simply not a fan of the black, but they could be a darker blue than the original (just like the top is a darker red than the original). Oh well.

That re-coloured version is nice. I prefer the darker pants, but the top can stay a bit lighter. It's amazing how much of a difference the red boots make. I really hope they change them.

As for the whole model-versus-bodybuilder thing... I'm gonna go with the more athletic look, myself. Sure, part of being a superhero means that you can be more than you appear. A slim teenaged girl in a comic might be able to bench press a cruise ship and that's fine-- possibly even cool depending on how it's done. But most people think of Amazons as physically fit, warrior women. Diana, as the top amazon, should look powerful. The best images that I have ever seen of Wonder Woman all have her looking tough, defiant and powerful. As someone here said in a different thread some time ago, yes, her bikini costume is crazy, but she wears it with such nobility, grace and strength that she is almost daring you to laugh at her so she can kick your butt.

I don't think we need a bodybuilder to play her, but someone more... solid... could be nice.

Also: Callisto was hot.

Ironically I still contend if you put Adrianne in a Callisto outfit and dyed her hair blonde you probably almost couldn't tell the difference between her and Hudson Leick at least body-wise. That's why I'm finding it funny people are saying "someone like Hudson" would make a better Wonder Woman than Adrianne. Oh well, like I said they'll never be able to please everyone.

I didn't say Hudson Liek looked signifacantly different Lothic. Nor did I suggest that Hudson would be better in the role as WW.

You said, and I quote

I've never really understood this idea that all superheroes have to look like super-cut bodybuilder/wrestler types.
And I responded with

And I used Hudson's portrayal of Callisto as an example of someone who doesn't look like a super-cut bodybuilder/wrestler successfully playing the role of a hardass heartbreaker and lifetaker.

Pardon me for wanting an actress that can pull off the role of WW (even in photos) rather than some barbie doll that looks like she's going to cosplay.

I like the photoshopped one better as well. Much less latex looking. And the pants - on my monitor at least - aren't black, but a dard navy blue.

To me, if you look at her face, she has no cheekbones and no chin as if her face is a bag of jelly hanging down from her temples with eyes, nose and mouth stuck on it it.

She looks too much like someone you'd see singing trendy pop songs on the Disney Channel with choreographed dance moves.

But that kinda sounds like that might be what they're shooting for, so maybe I'm just too far from the target audience.

There's something not-quite-right about that photo. Whether it's just the lighting or some Photoshop retouches, the end result doesn't really look like her. Palicki looks totally different when she's moving than she does in that picture.

Watch this interview -- hardly looks like the same person.

She's also a decent actress, too. Her turn on Criminal Minds as a psychopathic spree killer.

For what it's worth I'm not 100% totally happy with what I see from this ONE PROMOTIONAL POSED photo either. But I just happen to think people here are looking at this one pic in isolation and judging/assuming far too much from it. When considering Hudson Leick we have a lot more material to judge her on. According to imdb.com she was in 12 episodes of Xena. A full 12 episodes of appearances is quite a bit more to go on than one still photo don't you think?

One more time I'm going to be doing my very best to give this new show a chance despite the questionable fragments of data we've gotten on it so far. I agree completely that it might turn out to be a total mess that'll be cancelled in a few episodes, but none of us will seriously know that's going to be the case until it actually airs. *shrugs*

If I squint real hard I think I can see the blueness on this pic. Still like I said before I don't really care for that one part of it regardless if it's fully black or just very dark navy blue. I think the pants would work better if they were a slightly darker blue from the original the same way the top is just a slightly darker red.

As I mentioned eariler in this thread there's already a rumored connection between this new Wonder Woman and Katy Perry in the show's storyline. It would seem like what we may be getting is the version of Wonder Woman's outfit that might have been directly designed by either Katy Perry herself or someone who likes Katy's style a whole lot. If this Wonder Woman turns out to be a fan of Katy then at least it would make sense. I'm not saying I like it, I'm just saying that it would make sense.

Outfit's a little too plastic-looking to me, and I wish the blue was a hell of a lot darker, but the general design aesthetic I can live with and the actress looks decent. We'll see...

She looked good in Friday Night Lights and her few appearances in Supernatural, but when she came out in Legion she was a bit frumpy looking. Let's hope she brings some of the fire she had in her earlier roles, so at least when the creative decisions torpedo this show we can look back and say she did a decent job with what she was given.

I thought this was a modern step in the right direction.

If the girl posted above is the next wonder woman, this show is DOA.

Everyone's opinion about wonder woman is different but me, personally, she doesn't have to tall, strong, or etc but she has to be pretty with personality PERIOD.

I'm sorry but the girl above is FUGLY.

TV is 90% looks. Storyline, plots, etc. don't matter. It's the ability to attract watchers/viewers. Megan would have at least done that....I not even going to tune into this show.

I wouldn't mind seeing Olivia Wilde in the role, personally.

It's Sarah Lancaster, Minka Kelly, and Odette Yustman for me, in that order.

Monica Bellucci would have been perfect in her prime, though.
