Discussion: Examiner.com interviews Melissa Bianco
CoH is 7 years old, not 5 years old. Nice info there "Examiner".
It stopped just as it was getting to the really good stuff

One thing WarWitch missed out on - as far as the "empty" streets, it's because the game rewards the instanced play much more. In part, anyway.
Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

Gaah, first sentence too... rest of the article was fair but brief, wanting the 2nd part to see where they take this.
Rednames: Can you ring up Examiner and give 'em a healthy correction?...

That's not a BAD thing, but it's a definite factor.

That, and one fair point: When COH was released, it was less than half of the current size, map-wise. With COV and Praetoria splitting the areas even more, you'll not get that same sense of "hey, get off my street!" crowdedness that we had in 2004, since those same people who would be otherwise jockeying for their shot at kills in your 'hood in Kings Row are doing it in Mercy or Praetoria.
That's not a BAD thing, but it's a definite factor. |
I'm curious to see what comes up tomorrow. If the answer to 'what is next' for CoX is 'more Praetoria' there might be screaming. :P

That and the Devs' unwillingness to go back and revamp areas, preferring instead to create more new and shiny areas that thin the population even more. I'm not saying I don't like new zones, I do, but each time a new one is added, it spreads as even thinner.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
Even if the Devs revamped every old zone in the game, you still wouldn't see many people "on the streets" unless all the new content was zone-based and not instanced.

Part 2 is called "Kneel Before Cole". |

I know, it's still a contributing factor. Plus I'm hanging out for a revamp of Dark Astoria. Or the Shadow Shard. Or Boomtown. I can hope can't I?
|
But I don't think any of those scenarios are likely.

We can be heroes, just for one day
If anyone is interested, part 2 is up.
Overall, the articles are ok. Nothing rather new or mind-blowing in them.
Other than WW's comment about new GMs. All I would hope for is that they are actual Impressive GMs and not OPed Prae stuff.
Thank you for the time...
"We’ll be expanding on the world of Praetoria and we’re hard at work on the Incarnate System" |
"So to answer your question, yes, you will see future visual improvements. We’re always looking for opportunities to upgrade, which was the whole reason behind Issue 17 “Dark Mirror” and the Going Rogue expansion. Praetoria is breathtaking and it utilizes all of the new graphics technology we implemented, which was the whole point of our graphics engine upgrade; it was the tip of the iceberg to constant graphical improvements which we’ve been implementing ever since." |

That makes it sound like the expansion of Praetoria won't be connected to the Incarnate system like it is in I20.
|
The incarnate system also allows us to explore the whole story behind the Well of Furies and how your character ties into it, which is something we cant wait to share with more people. |

Needs more talk regarding resources for base building development.
Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
We apparently have an in-game store now.
We do, but you can't get booster add on packs or the like in it. Just character services.
well it was a fluff piece. loved how she side stepped a few questions, no mention how AE blew up in their faces, had super farms being made right and left, had one DEV scold us like we were little kids.
All in all just a free bit of advertising. Do have one question? why do we see advertising on TV for lots of other MMOs but I have yet to see any for COH? We have several SuperHero themed movies coming out this year and for now 1 TV show but no ads?

Sidestepping some of the "more difficult" questions, is because either way there is no "correct" answer, and probably because Paragon Studio's/NCsoft havent made their mind up on it, so for War Witch to comment on it (especially if it was something major) for them, and then having to retract later on (for ANY reason) will just bring up the question from the players of "If you weren't sure about it, why did you say that you were going to do it?" or "If it hadnt been finalised, why were you so concrete about it"... either way is once again suicide for the developers on the board.
I know that we would *love* to be inside the heads of the developers, knowing what they are thinking about bringing out etc etc, but if it hasnt been finalised, then why mention it... especially if there is a chance of it being cancelled.
Not commenting about CoX2 though... Sensible choice really. If anything, it would just open the floodgates even more from us asking what would happen to our existing characters/SG's/Enhancements/Bases/Influence etc etc. Lots of issues there when the developers can slip up/upset the player base EVEN IF it is to make the sequel better overall.
At least she said that they were paying attention to what was happening with P2P games going F2P, and that they still had the existing customers in their minds.
That makes it sound like the expansion of Praetoria won't be connected to the Incarnate system like it is in I20.
|
The Incarnate system is the war with Primal Earth stuff, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Praetorian stories not related to the war.
We are not our competitors; the reason we’ve been so successful over the years is that we’re not trying to be another game. We’re City of Heroes. |
