Batman: Odyssey...Why am I NOT reading this?

A buddy just shared this review of the first 6 issues with me and now I MUST own this series.

It sounds like, "What if UniqueDragon wrote Batman?"

Heh, yeah. "Disjointed" and "rambling" are two words that came to mind when I read the first 4 or 5 issues of this comic. I stopped after that, because I just couldn't keep going.

Yeah, I dropped it after 2 issues. Just insanity.....
Shame really, I was looking forward to Neal Adams doing Batman again. This is the X-men Forever of DC.

Still, at least it's not Batman Forever.

I hit that article up after seeing Scott McCloud tweet about it. I am now planning on buying this book as soon as it hits Comixology or comes out in trade, whichever comes first.

It is an utterly bizarre experience.

I haven't picked up #6 yet, but I expect it to make no more sense than the rest of the series.

I have vague hopes of reading the whole thing together when it's done and seeing if it coheres any then, but...

No.

It just ain't gonna happen.

This is a rare insight into the unedited mind of an artist who thinks he can write.

Either that, or a sad cry for help from an early-onset Alzheimer's patient.

Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

Haven't read it, but that one frame alone reminds me of the copy of Superman: At World's End that I have.

*tries to hide the shame*

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

Now I'm gonna have to check the quarter bin for this series too.

Thanks.

Excuse me for not being up on stuff, but did Neal write this, too? Because he's one of those guys...one of the greatest artists to ever work in comics...a legend, really...but his scripting...uh...did you ever read Ms. Mystic or Skateman?

It's kind of like Jack Kirby, except that Jack's strangeness really was only in the scripting; he was a fantastic, if somewhat kooky, idea man.

Neal is just out there.

Yeah, Neal is the writer and artist on this. DC gave em a pencil and said "go nuts",........he took them literally.....

Ms. Mystic...

Oh lordy. Liked the concept and the supporting characters. But the delivery... Yesh. I think I stopped after 3 or 4 issues of that.

Maybe it's a good thing I'm not into comics that much any more.

Thank you for the time...

I'd say Neal is *beyond* "out there". He's on the outside of the universe looking in. The guy seems nice enough, with his charity work and all, but he is certifiably insane. Go look at his website, particularly the part where he claims (with a straight face) that planets expand like balloons. Nevermind that there are decades' worth of evidence for plate tectonics, Neal says the continents match together because the Earth blew up like a child's balloon. Even Scientology makes more sense, and Scientology is the idiot stepchild of religion and science fiction that truly makes no sense.

As I recall, there were only something like 9 issues...over the course of ten years!

My favorite bit was the factory thay only manufactured...POLLUTION! Hey, Neal, I didn't even buy that from Ted Turner...

Wasn't it Neal in a Comics Journal interview who said that the reason more people don't commit murder is because people won't trust them if they do?

That's the invisible hand of the free market inhibiting murder. We don't need Big Government getting involved with laws and stuff.

My favorite picture of the day.

I can't imagine why the series got canceled when you see such riveting pictures of Batman in action.

Couldn't we just give the poor lad something to draw amazingly well without asking him to write anything?

Troy, I've heard you're a writer.....do you think you can help?
