on another update note, i finally managed to get the entire .net framework to uninstall and currently have no trace of it. upon reboot, i got an error msg that a dsca.exe failed to launch and so wasnt going to. it thought i was a <insert choice expilitive here> and had had enough of me(im paraphrasing here).
before i managed to get the entire framework to take a hike, i took Tex's advice and installed the latest .net available, 4.0. after installing, i tried installing and running the new launcher, and had no change in results. it still says "Waiting on locked file: nclauncher.exe", and provides no launching results.
however, since now i finally do have the .net framework uninstalled, im gonna try it again with this clean slate.
wish me luck.
...alright, things still not working out quite right. installed .net 4 from the website and the msxml and it still doesnt work right. ive tried going back through to windows update to see if maybe something didnt load or maybe theres something else im missing and all it does is fail to get updates.
gonna go back through and try reloading everything i uninstalled back to the way it was and see what that does...

bah... nvm. i see the problem. apparently ,net 4 is only for the web. it didnt actually install anything which is why it cant run anything because there isnt anything there to run :P
going back through to reinstall .net

Also uninstalled all microsoft.net stuff and reinstalled framework for .net 3 and the msmxl 6 parser thing.
still getting the above mentioned errors.
The only thing I can think of is that i reinstalled the game from my AE retail disk. Anyone think reinstalling from the direct download will make a difference?
Also i'm in AZ, could my IP address be part of the issue?

Aside from minor annoyance at extra click spam, and more time spent checking for updates, havent had any issues.
Was nice it found all my different test/beta installs.

still not working. reinstalled ,net 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 SP1, and somehow installed a version of 4. MSXML 6.0 SP2 and and something else as well as 4.0. rebooted system and no more error messages about things not loading. checked all my current shortcuts for stability, then downloaded the new launcher. and still getting the same errors, loops, and problems.
im all burned out on this nonsense today. maybe tomorrow will bring better news. if not, at least i know how to get rid of it and keep playing using the old launchers until someone figures out something. 'cause im at a loss.
After installing the launcher, when I launch CoX from Steam (puchased GR there), it fires up the launcher then fires up CoX and closes the launcher while still giving me the Steam chat and screenshot functions. A clunky step but it works. Steam integration and I can largely ignore the launcher. w00t!

How will this interfere/interface with STEAM?

I think this whole thing has been poorly announced or described, and I mean poorly is using kind words. I am not an avid forums reader, and often have difficulty finding what new updates or things are added to the game for they appear to be distributed all over the forums in an apparent chaotic manner, at least to me, but I am a senior citizen, so I confuse easily...
I have no idea about this so called "new launcher" is, all I know is that my original shortcuts at my desktop on my PC still works, I have all the "EULA" non-sense that I never read and just click, yeah, yeah, whatever you say... The game loads up, and now I have another dumb EULA to automatically click "yeah whatever".
Can someone please post a link on this so called new launcher? how you get it or install it?
When this new "pest" thing was introduced, there was a brief description of how it would work, but as usual it did not include the how to load or install instructions, assuming one would miraculously know where to go in the forums for it, and the forums search feature is essentially useless, no matter what I try to find in it, I just don't find; I often do better going to Titan Wiki for my on-game questions, which frankly is a shame, for I much rather have an official statement to work from.
With regards to customer service and the polite or professional courtesy treatment, sadly it has been a mixed bag. I am not sure having developers exchanging thoughts with customers to be a good idea, frankly that is a terrible idea. Software developers are usually very good at developing software, but often they lack social skills; thus is a horrid risk to potentially have folks with poor social skills being a spokesperson of a company. I would suggest the forums be moderated thru a professional spokesperson that introduces all the changes or updates to the game, and field the questions thereoff. This professional, can then go back to the developers for the answer to questions or issues and present the best company's face to customers. That will go a long way in rumor control and even damage control, also these professionals can actually influence development for they are better qualified to understand what the customer is experiencing and thus be a better advocate.

Ps: want to help me use the forums as an information source?
Why not weekly have a single place that says: "This is new for this week" and then list all the new changes to the game, one at a time, with a forum link for greater detail for each item. As opposed to have announcements all over, with no links to detail.

The second one is for 64-bit intel based Itaniums (mostly a server product)
The third is the Software Development Kit (only useful if you write software)
The fourth is the 64-bit version (which doesn't work for you because your DXDIAG indicated you're 32-bit.
So install only the first one on the list.

Well this is just great. I installed the new launcher and when I try to run COH it shows a progress bar saying launching City of Heroes/Villains, gets to 100% then closes and starts the process all over again in a perpetual loop until I hit cancel.
In the properties of City of Heroes, it says 'This game does not support patching through the NCSoft Launcher'.
I'll be off playing Just Cause 2 if anyone wants me...because...that works!

That sometimes happens if you have Live and either Test or Beta all pointing to the same directory. Right click on the Live, Test, and Beta installs and look under properties to make sure each installation is pointing to a unique subdirectory.

Given your location, you sound like you're having the same issue I did. Try the South American fix. Yeah I know.

The funny thing is that I removed my old install folder and let the launcher do a new install. When I launch the game through it, it calls up the old updater and starts to download the game from scratch(SLOOOWWWWWLLLYY).
I copied the piggs folder back over into the new install directory...but that seems to have no effect whatsoever. Still acting like there are no piggs files there.
Well, I downloaded it. If I click on it, it automatically launches the CoH test server, and then the launcher turns itself off. Can't click on it fast enough to make it do anything else.
So, assuming I wanted to play on a server OTHER than test, what do I do?
Cant even run CoH from the NCSoft launcher, it just continually loops around, trying to launch, then closing, then goes back to launching, then closes, ad nauseam. What gives?
I am very dissatisfied with this situation. I've tried checking if it's a situation where I needed to get a file (from the http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...34#post3520034 - South America clients), but the file isn't available!
I am currently residing in Costa Rica, as my work demands I stay here for long periods of time, and have been playing the game for several years now. It's really a hassle when suddenly, I can't get it to work, nor the supposed fix is even available for me to apply!

"NCLauncher access denied"
I click Ok, then try to run CoX and it goes round and round again.
Didnt fix anything, simply added a new error message. Lovely.
I have an important meeting early tomorrow, and I'll be checking on this on the afternoon. Hope something is done, or otherwise I'll stick with the old launcher workaround then.
It is VERY important that those of you having problems getting the Games.xml PM your IP address and DNS settings to one of the Community team members (Beastyle, Avatea or Zwillinger) regardless of your location.
That is how you can best help us resolve this problem.
ok, its definetly something with my laptop. running a dell Vostro 1500, winXP home OS, and loaded the game off the original discs after uninstalling every prior aspect of the game and new launcher. made shortcuts for test and beta servers and let all three run updates to get up to speed. opened all the game versions to make sure the system was stable and without flaws running with the new launcher. closed everything down. went and dled the launcher.
nope. same problems as always. launching the launcher cause it to see the nclauncher.exe as locked. from there, everything goes right into the toilet. so, im back to square 1 with this. not sure why the launcher works on my HP desktop but not my Dell laptop. did the exact same method with the laptop today that i did with the desktop yesterday to get it to work. so... i dont even know. what could the problem be? any ideas?
