Discussion: Upgrade to the NCsoft Launcher now!
Why is it that southamerican customers get the short end of this?
I can't help to feel a bit discriminated just for my location
Need to use a proxy to buy the booster packs cause the "local retailer", that is in portuguese and the rest of spanish speaking southamericans don't understand them, dont even bring the booster packs.
And now we get this error, thankfully this one is more easily fixed.
Going to try the fix... Hope it works

Joyous day!
With lots of trepidation, since my hubby is out of town and he does all the computer stuff, I followed the instructions at the front of this thread.
To my great relief, the wizard took over and did all the work, and the updates loaded with out grief or issue on windows XP system.
I clicked on the new icon, and it all worked!
Now I need to reload Guild Wars since I have an active account, and not played in a long time and try out the launcher for some other game

Well apparently the Caribbean gets the shaft too. I'm in Barbados and never had a problem getting booster packs or updating any NCSoft game.
But enter the new NCSoft launcher and suddenly I'm feeling like a suspicious alien.
I thought the South America/Caribbean problems had been resolved. If you are still having problems, open a support ticket so we can properly track your problem and we can get it resolved ASAP.

And what do you know...I was able to download the file.
Questionable legality? Maybe...but I can get into the game now.
Well... finally fixed...
And had to use a proxy to get the file... Same one i use for getting the booster packs...

To help your fellow players as more of them transition to using NCsoft Launcher, if you still have trouble getting this file:
http://launcher.ncsoft.com/GamesXML/1.2.4.9/Games.xml
without using a VPN or proxy or other methods, please make sure you have opened a technical support ticket. Even if you have PM'd your information to one of the community member, please open a technical support ticket.

EDIT: Make sure you mention that you cannot access the above file as mentioned in this thread:

I -JUST- recently got the CoHupdater to run in wine. CoH_Installer.exe hit a serious error that forces it to colse 5/5 times so far in Ubuntu. Hopefully someone more experienced with Linux than me will be able to post the workarounds for this soon.
Last time I had serious problems with the updater, I had to cancel accounts due to being unable to play. Now I'm being forced to pick up new software if I want to continue playing. What was so terrible about the old launcher that it HAD to be replaced?
119088 - Outcasts Overcharged. Heroic.
Thanks for the upgrade; the game patches and fixes itself much more quickly now, and I haven't had any horror stories like those in the thread. I was hesitant to make the switch given the issues that were posted, but nope: just a download that works like a charm. I appreciate it.

The NCSoft Launcher seems to be like the little girl with the curl in her forehead.
There was a little girl
Who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very, very good,
And when she was bad she was horrid
(For the record, my experiences have been very positive. It would be a very positive option. But the removal of the old launcher as an option is a mistake.)
My arcs are constantly shifting, just search for GadgetDon for the latest.

Well in spite of getting the Games.xml file by my own means I went ahead and raised a support ticket as requested by Tex.
And as predicted, the support people were as clueless as can be about what the problem was. 'Please adjust your UAC in Windows 7.' I've had that crap turned off as soon as I installed Windows 7.
'Please reinstall the launcher from scratch.' Yeah, I've only done that a half dozen times before. Why don't I do that again and see if that helps me access a file that is being blocked from me when I use my default public IP to get it?
I'm curiously awaiting the next brainy suggestion. Thankfully I can access the game, or I'd be seriously pissed.
I'll try and get the word passed on to technical support so these issues get routed to the appropriate personnel. We should be able to resolve these issues once we have the appropriate information.
So far it's ok.
However....
I'd like to know why it insists on going straight into opening the BETA version before I even get a chance to click for regular City of Heroes? I'm tired of having to wait for it to load far enough form me to click it to get it's tookus back to the basic launcher so I can launch the regular one.... and no... I tried clicking the other real fast... it ran both and wouldn't load either till I forced both off by shutting them down the hard way.
Anyway, can I disable the instant leap to "Oh yes... I want to play Beta" default that seems to be active right now?
Thanks

For me, mine is
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoft\Launcher\NCLauncher.exe"
That is it, and that kicks up the launcher as standard.
Now, if you set it up (or edited) the shortcut for the *beta* server install, then it will auto launch the beta server each time you click the short cut.
While the NCsoft Launcher may be a bit fat, it appears to be working SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the old CohUpdater. It downloads patches at a much faster speed - I clocked it at 400KB/s, when CohUpdater never went much above 100KB/s for me ever. It also applies patches for a fraction of the time. Where CohUpdater would take approximately ten minutes to apply even a small patch, tying up my machine's resources to such a degree that I can do not a whole lot else, the NCsoft Launcher is done in about 90 seconds and doesn't seem to stress my system much beyond basic hard drive usage.
The ability to dump a shortcut straight to the game on my desktop, as well as the ability to force the Launcher to self-close when I run a game remove all my complaints of unwieldiness and additional resource drain. On top of that, it still gives us the ability to force-launch that may be flagged as having problems, as well as the ability to access the Test and Beta servers without having to type in shortcuts by hand.
So far, I have no complaints for the thing, and it does indeed seem like a step up from the basic CohUpdater.

Nice going NCSoft.
I don't have a problem with the launcher, I have a problem with the fact that I apparently can't have free and easy access to a file that is needed to make the damn thing work on my system. Apparently because my IP is being rejected by whatever server the file is being stored on.

Personally, I feel the NCsoft Launcher installer needs to be hosted on the City of Heroes FTP. If we'll be using the Launcher, it makes sense for it to be there, instead of those ancient direct game installers and the soon-to-be-deprecated updater, doesn't it?

As far as I know he isn't in the Beta. In fact he's never used test either to my knowledge.
Do you mean sneak peak?
EDIT:
Confirmed; his only install is the normal server. Which was/is working. But trying to install the new launcher; fails.
