As I have posted earlier in the thread I have done all these things.

Some of them twice over.

This should not still be an issue after this long.

And finally! I can get the XML file now without using a VPN. Thanks to whoever was responsible in NCSoft tech support.

Question. And I hope I can get a definitive answer here.

I have several XP user accounts my kids use. They are set to Limited User accounts. While they can play City, they have never been able to update City due to the permission restrictions. I am always having to log into an admin account to do the updates.

Now, here is the NCSoft Launcher. I thought I'd give it a try on a Limited User account. When I did and there was a patch needing to be downloaded, I get this error message:

"The NCSoft Launcher does not have permission to modify files in the following folder(s) and probably won't be able to update the game(s) installed there:

Reinstalling these games with their latest installers is the simplest way to grant permissions to modify these folders."

Now, before I spend hours redownloading and installing City, I want to make sure that what I am understanding from the message is true: Will reinstalling the game with the latest installer allow patches to be downloaded and applied in Limited User accounts? Because that's certainly what that message is implying.

Thanks!

Thank you, whoever designed and implemented this. It patches faster, it downloads faster, and it doesn't eat all of my RAM to do it. Much love.

Why not change folder permissions to allow limited access accounts to modify the CoH folder?

Might be XP Home which requires tweaking to use folder permissions properly

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Will that work? I have XP Professional. I did at one point change permissions to allow saving of screenshots.

Can you be more specific on which folders I should change permissions on? Would it just be to the root game folder? ( the \CityofHeroes folder)

Thanks!

You might as well do the root game folder and copy permissions to all subfolders. There is a checksum that sometimes gets placed in the rootgame folder.
