  1. The command is /netgraph. I know it well. I will use it next time to see what it shows. I'll also make sure Geometry buffers are off and see if that makes a difference.

    Thanks!
  2. I'm pretty sure it's not anything having to do with Rikti. The freezing happens everywhere, even in Pocket D. It also seems to come in waves...City can be fine for a while, then the freezing starts and it'll freeze every 1-2 minutes for 15-30 seconds at a time, then after a while the freezing will minimize, and then start up again.
  3. Thanks, I'll look into that...

But there's still the overarching problem, which I have even in safe mode, of the game freezing randomly...

Do those text pastes reveal anything suspicious?
  4. Okay. While in safe mode, I was actually able to play for a bit with the problem character. At one point the screen glitched and most of the environment textures were replaced by what looked like character model texture screens, but the game was playable. It eventually crashed, but after maybe 20 minutes.
  5. First off, they are freezes, not crashes. When they start is random, sometimes they start right away, other times it can be a while before it starts.

For that one problem character, it's frozen the second the screen is finished rendering for the first time. With that character, the game eventually crashes...usually within 5 minutes. With other characters, it doesn't crash all the time, but it does eventually freeze all the time.

Safe mode? Let me try that and reply back...

PC is clean. I clean it regularly.

Free space on my drive is 207 GB.

  7. Issue: During play, City will randomly stop responding for 5-30 seconds at a time. Checking the Task Manager shows City of Heroes is "Not Responding".

Strangely, for one of my heroes, it's much, much worse. Upon entering the game, the screen is almost constantly frozen and it updates for maybe a second every 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

  8. Started off with an Atari 800 here, then moved on to a C64 and then several Atari 1040 ST/e computers. Pulled out the 1040's and all their software from the basement just last week. Tried out a couple programs before the monitor died.

The rest of the hardware and software seemed to be working. If anyone's interested, I'm selling
  9. Trick

    Event Fail

I'm not complaining about the event at all, just the lack of information about it. Normally with server-wide events such as this, there's a story or a reason it's happening. I'm just complaining that there's no information about the event here or in-game and how disorganized Paragon Studios appears.

They have a graphic ad promoting the event on the home page, but when you click on it, instead of taking you to the information about it, they goofed and linked to Positron's Anniversary Message, which mentions NOTHING about the event.
  10. Trick

    Event Fail

So, it appears there's a new event starting today? It's hard to tell since I apparently cannot find any information on it either from the NCSoft Launcher or the site.

Seems some coordination is in order if an event starts and no information is provided about it. Please, guys...get your Jaegers in a row before doing something like this. My biggest complaint about City as of late is the lack of information and how confusing the game has become. How many economies do we need to manage nowadays? (Hero Merits, Astral Merits, Reward Merits, and Countless-Other-Merits)
  11. There was something I noticed a while back, and something that I was reminded of today, therefore I decided to make a post about it. Electric Blast has less damage than other Blaster powersets? Why? The Endurance Drain.

The Endurance Drain is a problem because on the enemies it would matter on, it does absolutely nothing. They can still attack perfectly fine, making it so that Electric Blasters forfeit their damage for nothing. This doesn't mean it's not good. It works well on minions, lieutenants, and alright on bosses. Once you get to Elite Bosses and up, it loses it's effectiveness. So, do you think I have a valid point, and that the Electric Blast damage reduction is unfair for what the Endurance Drain is supposed to make up for?
  12. Here's what I get when I run the command...

Any ideas why I don't get the long result like the rest of you?
  13. My situation is similar, but different.

    MacBook Pro
    Snow Leopard 10.6.8
2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB memory
Running with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT active

Crashing is random, at least the first time. I could have been playing 20 seconds or two hours and then screen goes black and most of the time I can hear the sound looping. The only way to recover is force reboot the laptop.

THEN after I reboot, about 85% of the time, I will crash almost instantly after re-entering the game after logging in. Most of the time, as long as I don't move, I am fine. I can type in chat, click on buttons, but as soon as I move -- same black crash. Other times, I don't even need to move and I crash within 30 seconds of getting back in the game.

Usually, if I try rebooting 3-4 times, for some reason it starts to work again, but I don't see anything I do differently that corrects the problem.

    Any clues?
  14. I chose Void, Diamagnetic, Storm Elementals (Power reasons, but they're really nice), and Destiny.

As a Blaster/Blapper, Void was good for me because I like to be in the action, and it gives a nifty -50% damage which can save you some time to live. You're also a DPS character, and Ion's 2.5 second animation isn't really ideal. If you want quick damage with no added bonuses, go Pyro. (Currently using Total Radial Judgement for this.)

I chose Dismagnetic because I personally like trying to solo hard things, and -Regen is good for me. For team based, I like the -ToHit, and -Regen while fighting an AV. It works out well. (Currently using Core Flawless Interface for this.)

There are many choices for Lore. If you want attack, choose what one you think is the best, and if you want support, look at the bonuses and decide.

Destiny seems like a good choice for Blasters, in my opinion. Not only can you survive longer, but your team does too.
  15. For a long while now, I'm seeing parallel lines running through the graphics in City. I've included a screenshot...

Sorry for the large image. You can see the lines just in front of me and another line behind the Tram structural post. They are constantly the same distance from me no matter how I move.

I've tried changing many settings but nothing has gotten rid of them. Any ideas?

    System: Windows XP SP3
Video: ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB

    Thanks!
  16. Will that work? I have XP Professional. I did at one point change permissions to allow saving of screenshots.

Can you be more specific on which folders I should change permissions on? Would it just be to the root game folder? ( the \CityofHeroes folder)

    Thanks!
  17. Question. And I hope I can get a definitive answer here.

I have several XP user accounts my kids use. They are set to Limited User accounts. While they can play City, they have never been able to update City due to the permission restrictions. I am always having to log into an admin account to do the updates.

Now, here is the NCSoft Launcher. I thought I'd give it a try on a Limited User account. When I did and there was a patch needing to be downloaded, I get this error message:

"The NCSoft Launcher does not have permission to modify files in the following folder(s) and probably won't be able to update the game(s) installed there:

Reinstalling these games with their latest installers is the simplest way to grant permissions to modify these folders."

Now, before I spend hours redownloading and installing City, I want to make sure that what I am understanding from the message is true: Will reinstalling the game with the latest installer allow patches to be downloaded and applied in Limited User accounts? Because that's certainly what that message is implying.

    Thanks!
  18. Trick

    Soloing Dr.Kahn

    Sounds doable. Just painfully long.

Also, here's a hint. You don't need to hold Reichsman the whole time to prevent him from hitting you. If you immobilize him and stand far enough away, he doesn't attack. Not even ranged attacks. At least, last I remember.

I don't think max fury is even possible now after the change, but fury is easier to start building so the tradeoff is 50/50 imo.
I've gotten max fury once. Here's what it takes: Low damage. Lots of high level enemies.
  20. Hello, Elec/Elec Blaster right here. I've been faithful to him even since 2004, too.

As an Elec/Elec Blaster, I think I am permitted to say this, but choosing Electricity powersets aren't all about endurance drain. Sure, that's the best part of it, but who says that Electric Blasters can't do damage? Most of the stereotyping population, but people who have Electric Blasters I'm sure will say that they can do damage.

I've looked through your post and seen that you use Voltaic Sentinel. My suggestion, don't. I've gotten that before, and all it's done is greifed me when I was preparing for a tough battle.

Now, to attempt explaining things in order.

The mechanics: This is not true. They can work at any time in the battle, and draining endurance at the beginning can be very helpful, even life saving. I'm not saying do this every time, because sometimes you'll need Power Sink in the middle of the fight, but you can use it whenever. Any time your enemy is gasping for a break is a good and happy time.

Range: The two main endurance drainers are indeed melee, but you can drain endurance slower with the ranged attacks. About the melee part, as a Blaster that tanked Lady Winter as an AV on an eight person team and have no one die, I think I am allowed to say that Electric Blasters can in fact melee, and I think Thunder Strike, Power Sink, and Short Circuit back this up. Those are the three best melee powers, and they do a lot with a little. Power Sink's endurance cost could be lowered a little, but that's my only complaint there.

Attacks: This I agree with this mostly. Electric Blasters drew the short stick with less strong attacks, but the endurance drain can make up for this, even if it's small. I say that Voltaic Sentinel should be replaced with a better power, like an attack.
  21. Alright, got Mids' working.

I have to say, that build looks very appealing, but it seems like a lot of work to become a villain for one power. Also, I like Ice because of Hoarfrost and Hibernate. I don't know how many Master of the XF's would've failed because of me not having hibernate. However, Energy is my weakness, even if I have the same amount of resist/defense in the others. It just somehow faceplants me really well.

I'll give it some thought. I'll probably do it, because Aid Self recharges much faster than Hoarfrost, and I'm really liking the defense and resistance on that build.

Thank you all for responding. Recently I was unable to do a Tin Mage with my friend because of the end problem. Hopefully this gets fixed soon!
  22. Alright. I am unable to get online to see my build right now, but I will soon.

About the Mids' Designer, I had downloaded it just yesterday, but I didn't see and signs of Fitness being Inherit, because I was still able to get it in the Power Pools part of it. I'll check again.
  23. Alright, so here's my deal. I've had this Elec/Elec Blaster since 2005, and I plan on keeping him. I got a build, and kept it. I've been good all the way until now, where I'm having enormous problems with endurance. It was around when Tier 3 and 4 Incarnate abilities were released that I started having the problems.

I realized that my build was incomplete, so I decided to fill it in. I filled Stamina with Endurance Modification IOs (level 50). I also put Regenerating Tissue into my Hoarfrost, the whole set. This gave me a 5% recharge bonus, which unbalanced the end consumption and end recovery rate. I now run out of end every few minutes, which is restored temporarily with Power Sink.

So, here's my request. Could anyone make me a build that would help me with my problems? I tried using Mids' to design a new build, but it apparently doesn't know that Fitness is Inherit, yet.
