Discussion: Upgrade to the NCsoft Launcher now!

I still can't get any instance of COH to launch and I want to reset the PC to use the old launcher so I can at least access my game. Does anyone have any idea how to do that?

This is quite depressing.

thats pretty much what im opting to do. i tried logging in through my droid thinking maybe my secret answer was spelled a different way. but it still says something is wrong with my info, so... yeah.

no, its not my ncsoft account. it's something with the file itself, and i dont get it. how can it be running the nclauncher and say file nclauncher.exe is locked? im gonna wipe out everything and try reinstalling everything from scratch. however, i would just like to note that this is BS in a huge, tremendous way. to have to go through all this just for a new launcher? ..really? ...REALLY??

Really like the new Set up for the launcher, also it make things easier for us to get on test server or Beta now.

NCSOft server is down, but City of Heroes is up. I have to access it using the old updater.

KK, I guess I found the fix for the "access path denied" error I was getting.

I did the *Big* fix and uninstalled All NCSoft and re-installed. Like in my previous, I have had various NCSoft games on my box for years. I would guess that over that time, small _variations_ occured that was not _liked_ by the new NCSoft Installer.

Any way, I used Revo Uninstaller and watched what it did. My guess is the "access path" that was denied was a bad registry error for a file that was removed/renamed in some previous patch?

This I do not understand. I didn't download/install the new client installer and my Live COH patched and loaded just fine. I don't want to mess with it in case it borks my working install. How can I check and see that the COH client for live is the same as the new client they want us to install?

ok, dumped everything pertaining to the game: files, folders, icons, shortcuts; through the add remove programs and any residual left overs manually. rebooted. just dl'ed the new launcher and it still gives me the NCSoft Launcher Update Error - File is locked and cannot be patched: d:\program files\games\city of heroes\nclauncher.exe Error Code-1

pick exit, and the launcher closes. pick ok, and we go to the launch screen. select city of heroes:install game and it's now dling in the background. should take all night to get the entirety of the game loaded. wont know if it boots until then. so...until then... if anyones looking for me, i'll be over there in the corner. bashing my head against a wall stud.

If you are getting the error that NClauncher.exe is locked and cannot be patched, exit the Launcher and bring up the Task Manager and in the "Processes" tab, look for NClauncher.exe, right click it and select "End Process" and select "Yes" on the warning screen.

Then, restart NClauncher.exe and it should patch properly.

This is great, I installed it as instructed and now can't access the game either via NCSoft launcher or my old CoH Updater link. Fantastic and seamless end user experience. I play the game to ESCAPE from this kind of nonsense, not for more of it.

exited the launcher currently running, stopping the client download. brought up the task manager. no listing of nclauncher.exe.

The patch servers are most likely in the process of being updated.

From my perspective, it's a game for which I've paid $15 a month for the last 7 years that I can't access anymore because I followed a set of instructions provided by the publisher.

When I pick up my phone, I expect a dial tone. When I turn on my TV, I expect there to be a signal. YOU CAN'T BREAK THE LOGIN SCREEN.

This is completely unacceptable, and it's apparent from other posts that I'm not the only person affected (so much for my delusions of grandeur and persecution). Do what you want with ED, Bases and PVP, but if I can't log in without going through some set of hellish set of desktop gymnastics, I'm out of here.

If this is resolved in an hour or two, I'll be embarrassed and humbly apologize, but if I can't log in tomorrow, I'm cancelling my account and y'all can keep the Vanguard pack.

Now I'm going off to sulk and reinstall the client while I would otherwise have been levelling up my latest Soldier of Arachnos.

To put a mature face on this, boo on you, NCSoft. Thhhpppt!

Also I'd like to add a little tidbit. If anyone is having problems where the NCsoft Launcher will not connect to the update server which in effect makes it impossible to play the game. Make sure you have your firewall allow NCsoft Launcher.exe and NCAccess.exe and make sure that you have Port 80 open and unrestricted.

If you connect to the internet through a proxy make sure that Internet Explorer has the proper proxy settings. If not make sure that under the LAN settings in Internet Explorer's "Tools/Internet Settings" Connections tab is set to "Auto Detect"

For some reason the Launcher uses whatever IE has as it's settings to connect to the internet. We were having a hell of a time troubleshooting this issue as we use firefox and not IE and on one of the computers IE was set to use a proxy and the Launcher would not connect to it's update server.

I had this issue. You have an old version of the NCSoft launcher. I did also, used to play Dungeon Runners.

You have to delete the old version, then download the new version.

That patch server message is very misleading.

Why NCSoft wasn't ready for people to have old versions, I have no idea.

I had this disgusting issue as well and while the launcher issue is still unresolved, you should still be able to get into the game. As I was advised, go into the install folder, find the new COHupdater.exe. rename it to something else, locate the OLD.COHupdater.exe and remove the' OLD. 'part. Game should launch via original launcher...for however long we can do that =[.
