Discussion: New Security Update on NCsoft Master Accounts
As a former eu player now playing us side which support am I meant to contact? And am i expect to provide every serial code across the board? Actually given that it was 5 years and 2 houses ago I don't even have my Eu serial codes.

You can't decide 5 years after the event that certain personal questions which had no meaning are suddenly critical to access your account. |

If you aren't sure where to find these, click here (explains where to find the codes on CoH CoV and GvE). This is very stressing and no answer since i sent all the information that i have. I was just missing two pieces of information which are the older ones, which i throw away to take some space. Let's see how it goes tomorrow.
To anyone who hasn't submitted a support ticket, I cannot stress this enough:
BEFORE YOU CLICK SUBMIT/CONTINUE, COPY YOUR SUPPORT TICKET INTO A SEPARATE DOCUMENT.
I say this because I had mine all set and ready (after spending a half hour looking through old emails and files), I clicked continue and was greeted with the following:
"Submission failed. Operation timed out. Please use the back button and refresh your page."
Luckily, I had a copy waiting in my word processor of choice with the feeling that this would happen.
I have two accounts. One for 30 months, the other 18 months. I managed to guess the verify answers on one account but got it wrong on the second account and was locked out of that Master account. However, I COULD still log into the game. Not sure how that rates as 'secure'.
I rang the support line and being in England their short opening hours isn't a problem. That call cost me 50 cents/minute. It took 20 minutes. I was 8th in the queue when I rang just after they opened today. I'm guessing it's going to be a longer queue as time goes on.
I answered a couple of questions - not account codes - and a reset password/questions thing was sent to my email within about 30 mins. I have no problem with the gentleman on the phone; he was very helpful once I explained the problem. After responding to the password/security questions thing I could access my Master account again. Super.
BUT
- Did I get the 'easy questions' to answer to verify my account because I have two accounts (with similar info) and I had successfully got one verified? I could not have provided email verification codes from account start up.
- I lost a lot of emails from NCSoft last year because "it looks as though their mail system doesn't support sender verify for some reason. Essentially our mail server will check that the sending address is valid (in real time) before accepting the mail." my email provider bounced the emails and I had no way of knowing.
- I cannot find a way to change the security questions unless I deliberately lock myself out of my Master account then ring support to get them to send me a reset pass/questions email.
- My IP changes - you want me to do this everytime this happens?
- The questions are not secure especially if they can't be changed
- The biggest issue is the forum passwords being the same as NC login. That should NEVER have been done and that was NC's choice not mine. Before you forced this, I had separate passwords
- I am concerned that because I have to use a proxy to see the USA NCStore that I will no longer be able to buy boosters/expansions.
CoX is one of the few games that didn't lock me out of the store/game because I am not in the USA. I sincerely hope that is not where we are going with these 'security measures'.

Are *they* going to provide these on request? Even if I had all of the codes, I don't know which ones went to which account right off the top of my head.
So can we finally change having to have same password on our master account as the forum here. Its way to easy to hijack wireless users auth sessions and get not only thier forum account but master as well.
I'll echo that this is all bling security, not real security, and will annoy users more than helps. Both ISPs I use assign dynamic IP address's. I'll be reauthrising every damn day. I bet that it is not going to change. |

Yeah. Of all of it... I can *almost* see asking for that on a game you have to stick the CD in each time to play, as you'll likely have that. On a game you can purchase online, add stuff to online, and never see those codes?

From what I can tell, they only started emailing full account codes late 2007. Actually I know I applied a retail version of the GvE code to a trial account that I also did not get an auto-response with my "code applied" in May 2008.
One of my friends has had his computer wiped and if he can't remember his information, he is completely out of luck as I don't think he even has his game boxes/manuals anymore.

Well, a bunch of people I know are now locked out of their accounts. How about you push this change back a week to let people change their security questions to answers they'll actually remember?
So this Pet Question is something they are going to ask me the NEXT time I log into Master Account to get more time or this is something I already answered like 3 + years ago when I first started?

If you get the questions wrong five times you are locked out of your master account.
I hope you all have good memories. There should have been an option to put in new information rather than hope people can remember what was said years ago. I for one NEVER give real info (mothers maiden name etc) that is bad security. |

Oh, and I just realized that my daughter's account was originally setup by her uncle, then I took over the billing. Which means that I'm never going to get access to that account again... we can't get in touch with him, and he's sure as hell not going to remember (or care) what he entered for his security questions five or six years ago. AWESOME.

While this is the most ill-executed bit of "Good Intentions" I've seen from almost any game (Rift's account naming I think beats it out by a hair) the people at support for this game do generally want to help.

I also vote horrible idea with too little warning and ABSOLUTELY NO EXPLANATION ON HOW TO CHANGE THE SECURITY QUESTIONS before they implemented it.
On the previous two nights I was looking through my account for the security questions to change or confirm. As I sure as heck dont remember what they were. Couldnt find them, was looking in this thread the whole day for someone to post or confirm to the other previous questions. The answer didnt show up in time.
More food for thought. They are doing the promo for the 7 years of subscription. I wonder how many players are going to get the shaft here cause they couldnt access their master account and resub during this time because of the almost no warning lockouts ? Didnt they have a bunch of posts trying to alleviate current issues with folks who had to resub during this period ? Now they throw this in and almost guarantee a ton of players are going to get boned by it ?

Heres another last tidbit for thought. Some of us are overly protective of our personal information. When I started this game 7 years ago I did NOT use my real personal information for fear of misuse of said personal information. I was fairly new to online activities, and was concerned about misuse, spam, and all the negative aspects. So made up some bogus info - started the account. Played happily ever since. Do I even have a chance to reaccess my account ? I know im not the only one who did / does that. I have a terrible feeling about this

As has been mention, this changed about 2+ years ago - you should have the full code emailed to you after it is used.

Actually a few years ago they didn't. I spent 3 hours today getting all my serial codes, but I never did get a serial for my GvE In-Games pack back in October 2006.

- My CoH buddy code that I used to start my account in 2005.
- My CoV DVD edition code (thankfully I still have the disk/box/code). Also in 2005.
- My GvE In-Game Items Pack (Online order in October 2006).
- My CoV Pre-Order code.
- My GvE Boxed edition for my second account (thankfully I still have the disk/box/code) in 2008.

What they are doing is making it harder for people to give them money (ie renew their subscription and purchase add-ons for their account). Way to go. I'm also thankful that my subscription doesn't expire or need to be changed in any way until June, but at this point I can't buy the Animal Pack or Natural Booster even if I wanted to.

Well, was able to get my account unlocked. But I still can't log into it from home right now. The cutoff for that is only supposed to be half an hour. And it's been nearly 9 hours now. Luckily I'm able to remote into work and access my account there.
Apparently my answers weren't LETTER PERFECT. So they had to basically wipe all the info for me and reset them.
There were better ways of handling this...

I know which address I used.
I donot remember the 20 digit codes for 2 reasons, 1, we only get the last four digits of the codes, and the other reason, my brother though all my stuff away cuase he's a jerk.
I'm glad I saved the email with my Unique Account ID.
And I have not used the credit card to open CoX in 3 years.
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO REMEMBER ALL OF THIS STUFF!?
