Offline SG invite for my alts

I would like to bring up the suggestion again for being able to invite my alts to my sg

offline. Is there a technical issue preventing this? I know the workaround, I just think this

is a matter of convenience. Thanks for reading.

Make it sendable via emails.
/Signed. It's useful for others than just alts. The same needs to happen for promotion and demotions.

/signed. I still don't understand why they haven't done this already.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

i do over all sign this thread

especially demotes so many times ive had a high ranking leutenent thats gone for 6 months be nice to have a on vacation rank you can plop them to so you dont have to kick em. but since you cant demote/promote.

or for that guy who has invited 20 productive people, has over 3 mill pres and runs all this great rp has two AE missions your guild loves... but gosh darn it hes never on when you are maybe hes a morning person and your a night person. be nice to be able to give that guy a nice promote.

Bit worried bout the offline invites.... email is probibly ok cause you can set it to friend only. as it is almost every day soon as i log in i get....wanna join a sg.... i say no i own one.... next time i log in same thing ive asked these people to put me on a do not invite list but they dont a few times when recruiting in atlas i got this on the same character 5 times from the same guy.

im hesitant to just ignore them cause well i do PUG a lot and i rp in the D also why i dont just hide and just cause i don't like how they recruit doesnt mean i dont wanna team with them. Offline invites may just mean i log in to "wanna join my sg" x 10.

I should've been more clear. I was thinking it would be handled through the e-mail system, to filter out spammers.

SGs do have a timer for auto-demoting inactive members.

Other than that, yeah, been wanting offline invites and rank controls forever.

Instead of e-mails, I'd say find a way to do it through tells with the option to auto-reject turned on by default. That way J. Random Player has to opt in, usually because they're expecting an invitation they want.

It wouldn't suck either if it could work both ways, with SGs having an option to accept petitions for membership. Also off by default.

Being a member of a SG should automatically reject an invite, of course.

Always /signed when this comes up.

The only technical issue I've noted was that there's some kind of online validation check done when you invite someone to your group (I invited an alt from one client, logged off the inviter and then tried to accept it but it came back with '<character> is offline', etc.).

I'd sign but it's kinda redundant at this point.

Ack.
Almost getting me to post an idea on this one.
Yes, it is a good idea that should have been done along time ago as players do what they have to do to get this done at any rate.
I think there are easier ways to do it than e-mail. I'm not going to say how.

I don't care either way. Is it very difficult to call a friend over to create a character on an unknown server and give him SG invite status so he can invite your alts? No.

Yes please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please.

Dont care how whether it is Offline Tells or emails (for the invites).
Offline Promotes/Demotes can just appear where they normally do.

The problem I have is I use my base for a lot of storage.

For awhile I had a second account and could easily invite and promote my other characters.

Now... I have to invite a friend to my sg..promote them...have them invite and promote my toon.. then ask them to leave or kick them because....

I do not care how well you think you know someone... People get desperate and I have had my personal SG raided by a "friend" (to the tune of 50+ rares, and over 20 LOTG +rech) who I trusted by leaving them in the sg.. just in case I needed an invite.

If I could just invite my own toons.. I could lower the permissions so everything was available to new recruits and all would be well

This is one of those things I've never seen anyone ever argue against, and I support it every time it comes up. I may even be arsed to have have "personal" SGs if I didn't have to involve other people in the process.

Make it so, please.

Yet another "yes" vote, it is a perennial "what do you want in the next Issue" desire of mine.

Yes it is, if they are offline, or in a TF, or if you don't have any close friends in the game. Or perhaps you don't want to bug them about it for the 98th time.

I find it seriously irritating to have to go though my one person SGs, change all the storage permissions to avert theft, broadcast for some stranger to help, hope they don't screw up the invite process, and if then if the invite is actually accomplished having to make sure to change all the permissions back once they are gone. It makes what should be a simple, straightforward process much more awkward and irritating than it needs to be.

. . .which is probably why devs don't want to make this available? They have an idea of how sg's "should" work, what they want them to be, and that's that? The trouble, of course, is that the COH/COV community is composed of people with a range of interests, RL responsibilities, and individual needs (er, okay, wants). Sure, there are sg's that are gung-ho hives of buzzing activity (I've been on teams where someone has literally left in the middle of a mish because their sg needed them for something or other NOW, but then, I've been on teams where someone has left a mish to sell or train or craft those nifty piston boots, gotta love PUGs), but there are also plenty that aren't and don't aspire to be. Many of us work weird hours and simply cannot be on when other members are, so having the ability to invite (and promote/demote) via in-game email (pro/demote via the regular sg interface) or some other method would be great, especially for alts, including alts of other sg members' alts who are still working through Praetoria--as soon as they get out, having a shiny new sg invite waiting would be very nice indeed. Immediate access to all porters, storage, etc. would be very helpful to Praets who just zoned into Talos with only the clothes on their back (and whatever we've emailed them/they've earned, of course).

One thing that used to drive me and other sg members nuts is when we did have a time set up for sg fun (coordinated across time zones and work/home schedules), we'd end up spending between 10 and 20 of our precious sg minutes logging alts on and off simply to add new toons to the sg. Why is that necessary? If I want Toon X in my sg, why can't I just send an invite via email? Then when Toon X logs on, they can either accept or decline.

To avoid a free-for-all spamming war, why not limit email invites to those already permitted to invite new members? Or even to sg leaders (but not just the red star ones, as that doesn't solve the problem most of us have with not being able to invite toons who are offline or whose globals are offline)?
