That was utterly brilliant. I like Fire Blast being described as 'punching things with fire, but missing'.
Yeah, he got Dirigible Corporation's number first up. |
I expect that when Marvel Universe Online comes out, they will settle the matter by making everyone melee. And have claws, high regeneration, and indestructible skeletons.

A self-professed COH fanboi, I still play the other two superhero MMOs, thanks to lifetime subscriptions. Though =nowhere= near as much as I play COH. They each have their pros and cons, and I think the world is a better place for having them around. To each their own.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

That was one of the first innovations I discovered about Drag Coefficient Online's power design, after figuring out how to get out of the character creator that is. City of Heroes pioneered the theory that the small disadvantage of not having range should be compensated by the small advantage of being completely indestructible. Champions Online decided to overturn that rule and made the penalty for not having range be having other players laugh at you for not taking range. DCUO decided to settle the matter once and for all and made everyone ranged, except your range is often zero.

Nice summary.
Tried the other two superhero MMOs.
While they have their bonuses over city of heroes (the musical score in the recent release is downright fantastic for example) they both seem to fail at other hurdles (as mentioned in the Yahtzee review...why they severly limited the character creator is a little bit beyond me and the art style in the other one was downright blech for my tastes).
Pretty much agree with what ZP said...I was in the CB for DC:UO and...I think I played it for like an hour...maybe 2-3 hours at most....that was it :P

My favorite part, from what I heard, is that they basically force their origin on you. It sounds like it'd be like if our devs ket pushing that whole Pandora's Box and the Origin of Power thing into our faces every other issue instead of just quietly dropping it when they realised players like to pretend their origin is their own.
Playing CoH with Gestures
Sounds all good, untill you realize MOST of the time, it isn't YOU beating up Recluse's lackeys, Recluse himself, or the big name Heroes.
It's you and a team of others doing it. So it's not so much, "Ha! I'm strong!" as it is "Ha! You can't take us on 8 to 1!" ;p |

On topic, I laughed my *** off at Yahtzee's review, and even considered posting it here, but decided against it. I love the praise he gives to City of Heroes as THE game to compare against, as well as praising it about its character creator in a roundabout way. However, much of the criticisms he levies against Dance Central Universe: Online also applies to City of Heroes: Online, and being the biassed hypocrite that I am, I chose to avoid bringing in an argument that could be turned around against me.
I always enjoy Yahtzee's videos, even when I disagree with him completely, because his blunt, unforgiving criticism often points out annoying problems in titles I like that even I can admit to and laugh at him for satirising. For instance, I liked Mass Effect 2, but the comment on the population of Titan Station being 75% under the age of 12 had me rolling in my chair. "I love mommy and being alive (my blood inside of me)" indeed
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

That new game needs a few changes, notably character bios, a few more powers and much better chat interface. Everything else about it is pretty much spot on.

"Most of the time," I take on Reclue's lackeys in their Patron arcs and him in Time After Time, both of which I not just "tend to," but always do solo. Paragon's finest, on the other hand, are all available in the Mender Silos TF, as well as in different bits and pieces from Grandville, again, all of that doable solo.

I abosuletly found that....happy
My Tanker lacks the damage to take down an AV, but she has faced, solo, the Clockwork King, the Honoree, Marauder, Malaise and Mother Mayhem, proving that these all lacked the damage to take her down, as well. Also, my Fire/Dark Corruptor couldn't kill Infernal (blasted high Fire Resistance), but he couldn't kill her, either.
Does that count?
I've got characters that have soloed the AV versions of Barracuda, Manticore, Indigo, and Stheno (and The Radio, but I think that's a particularly weak AV. One of my characters accidentally soloed The Radio (as in, I didn't realise I was set for AVs and had no preparation going into the fight against it, and still took it down.))

My reply was to Sam's post, which was a reply to mine from another (Techno's I believe).
Saying we get to beat up the big names in CoH, so we don't feel like a lackey like in some other game, I was just saying it's usually (not always, as people of course have builds that can solo AVs...but I'd say that's a minority) 8 vs 1 to take on those Big Names.
8 vs 1, to me anyways, doesn't seem like "Oh I'm so great and equal!"
Not to mention, depending on your build some AVs can be harder than others. Scirrocco, Recluses Lt...soloed...Silver Mantis, side kick to one of Recluses Lt. (Black Scorpion)...not soloed! Grrrr.

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Well hey, at least in the LRSF it's eight against eight. That's almost kind of equal in a way if you squint a little.
