My main took 908 hours to reach level 50, most of it solo. That same character debtcapped herself many times - under level 50 - testing things like whether total focus could stun a mito. I once tried to defeat Envoy of Shadows as a +2 AV on my controller 39 times in a row and wrote a thread detailing each attempt. I spent four months on test figuring out which of the RV AVs my Ill/Rad could solo with a Heavy (with enough luck: all of them). I once raced someone in-game from Atlas to Portal Corp on a level one alt without using the trains on a bet.

This is a whole different epic quantum level of crazy.
I would never call you the spreadsheet-psycho. That is entirely reserved for Steelclaw.

Queen of Maths? Yes, that I would call you.
Diva of data detection? Absolutely.

I'm glad I didn't see what Arcanaville and StreetClaw are doing when I first started playing or Might have thought I was playing the game wrong.

Damn, I know I'm much more casual than some. But compared to all that I feel like I might as well be just starting. Hell I'm a 63 month vet... (Not the highest I know but still.)

I would like to make a public apology to everyone in the Forums. I was not aware that the nature of my prefered method of playing the game would cause confusion or upset so many people.

I know my methodology for playing this game is different and self-constraining. My reason for making the original post was an effort towards self-satire. I was poking fun at myself for being the way I am and inviting my fellow Forumites in to get a chuckle as well.

Apparently my attempt at humor has engendered the exact opposite response from some people and for that I am truly sorry. In the future I shall keep my humorist posts limited to the broader game and avoid my personal gaming preferences.

Thank you all and once more, sorry to those I have offended.

Steel, I for one enjoy your humourist posts and don't think you should stop just because of a handful of people.

Yeah you may have a weird way of playing the game (to me) but its your $$ so you play how you want and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. It's YOUR fun that counts, not ours

Keep up the funny stuff and don't let any of us get ya down *runs off to read the Japanese list again*

I agree with Tamedragon here Steelclaw.
Its your $'s, you pay for your gametime, you make your rules on how to play the game your way.
Don't stop making the self satire, (you do it too good), please.

As always, my hat is off for you Steel. Although I do wish you would find a way in your system that would not make you delete your loved chars and start from scratch all the time, as well as enjoying the level 50 content

Again, you have fun with your spreadsheets and your tournament and thats what matters.

Sorry to go off-topic but... I didn't see you post about this one test! What was the conclusion? Does it really suck as much as it seems to?

I believe the conclusion was "The RNG is sufficiently random to prevent statistical analysis of the results".

While people may not understand your reasons for choosing to play the way you do, for anyone to be 'upset' by it is more than a little ridiculous. It's your cash, and your tournament is of no detriment to others. Keep going.

That is your choice. The self-satire was appreciated, because enough of us "know" about you and your tournament that it's fun to know what your reaction to changes in the game is.

I can assure you, that I read it and I laughed, sir. The overriding thought in my head was "go, Steelclaw! You might even get a toon to 50!"

You are one of the (many) bright spots on these boards, but never doubt for one minute that you are a bright spot, and that some of us eagerly await your latest witticism with unconstrained glee.

Not to mention the somewhat casual interest I, personally, take in knowing (very generally) how your tournament is going in its current form.

Never, ever doubt that you are a welcome part of ths community, and never, ever doubt that there are people who want to know what you want to tell us. Even if it's just me, I want to know.

I wasn't offended. I was actually impressed. In a weird, twisted sort of way, but still impressed.

It does not. There's only one way in which the random number generator generates behavior that I can determine to be non-random, and its a way no one could possibly ever notice.

It would be difficult to explain, but let me try this way: suppose we were to make a game in which we would bet on what the *last* digit of the next tohit roll would be. As in: "you rolled 36.57%" - we'd be betting on the "7." And suppose we were picking numbers like on a bingo card, where I could bet on different numbers depending on the previous two, so that if the previous two were "65" I would bet "7". But if they were "55" I would get "3" for example. In that case, I would win if the roll was X6.57 or X5.53. There are one thousand possible combinations of bets, and they should be all random. However, if we both pick 500 of those possibilities and I pick first you'll lose to me about 55% of the time.

This isn't due to the RNG being bad, I don't think, but actually the round-off algorithm they use to round the rolls off to the nearest hundredth of a percent. Its slightly alignment-biased.

On the other hand, when that Oberst boss crits you in the face, that's basically random.

There's one other oddity. Technically speaking, there should be ten thousand possible rolls: 0.00 all the way up to 99.99. But there are in fact ten thousand and one: 0.00 all the way up to 100.00 - that is actually ten thousand and one possibililities. That is also due to round off. And 0.00 and 100.00 are both only about half as likely as 0.01 or 99.99 or all the other rolls in the middle, just because they are in effect "sharing" one ten thousandth of a chance. Also not a problem in actual play because there's a 5% miss floor and 95% hit ceiling anyway.

WOW! Steelclaw, you must really like pain. LetÂ’s say for a moment that you do finally get a character to 50 and something else comes along that changes things, would you delete that same 50 and start over again? *shutters*

I'm not the least bit upset or offended by the way you play the game, or by your original post. It seems to me to be a really unfun way to play the game, but like I said in my earlier post, more power to you if you enjoy it.

...and many others.

Steelclaw, for what it is worth, EVERYONE will likely find ways that someone else plays "unpalatable" for whatever reason. Some play with costumes nobody else would use, some use "concepts" for their heroes that they alone find attractive.

More power to 'em.

Personally, I find your tournament to be a fascinating twist on game play, much the same way I enjoy watching someone play an archtype well that I personally do not play.

You go, Steelclaw. If you are having fun, you are doing it right. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Also:

You are one of the few folks whose posts just about everyone will read and come away DELIBERATELY amused. (There are some who provide unintentioned amusement, but I digress.) I will stop and read a Steelclaw post before any other. You are that kind of a draw.

Some folks' reaction to this thread was loopy. Eh, you know how it goes. Dying is easy, comedy is tough. Enough folks got the joke to validate it. Some folks just won't get the joke. Some folks, like myself, will laugh at just about anything (see: Me Love Be A Troll) What can I say? I think Trolls are funny, and singing Trolls are funnier still. Troll songs best songs!

So carry on the funny stuff, Sirrah. The Steelclaw Groupies on all servers insist!

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

I love the tournament idea.

I'm not focused enough to operate my whole playing style like this, but I do maintain a spreadsheet of where all my characters are and what badges they need (of the ones I care about) and what names I want. (I'm trying to have a character with a name starting with each letter of the alphabet) And some other things that my boyfriend laughs at me about, since I pull up my spreadsheet while logging in.

Is there a link with the full set of tournament rules? Or current standings? I want to root for specific toons and teams. (Virtue!)

If I remember correctly, I ran from Ms Liberty to the Skyway tunnel, from Skyway to Talos, from Talos to PI, and from PI to Portal Corp. The last "shortcut" I took to win the race was to get immediately killed walking out of the Ferry, rez at the PI hospital, then go out to sea and swim to the north end, zig zagging over and down to the courtyard.

That prompted a second race with a rules change: get there the quickest without dying. I lost that one by about ten seconds. Without teleporters, this can really test your knowledge not just of the zones but also of the critter distributions in the zones.

At one time in this game, before Pocket D and other teleporters, it was a small mini-game to figure out ways to get from point A to point B with the minimum travel time. If you fly a lot like I do, this was an important game to get good at if you expected to team at all.

I probably would have lost the race by a little more than a few seconds. but, I think I could have made it there alive. I got pretty good at avoiding aggro in high level areas on low level characters. used to make that run to the back end of the Hollows from the Atlas gate straight through the pick with nothing but Sprint...and my superhero costume of course. Wouldn't want to get arrested for indecent exposure. And flashing the Trolls might give them the wrong signal.

As a long-time player with mostly Fly, I =still= do this. "Ok, gotta get to King's Row. If I take the train to IP and then fly through the tunnel... hey, how's the rest of the team there already?"
