Scabbard \ Holster \Weapons Booster pack
This is all very interesting, but a friend told me that that was perhaps not Jay who said those things, but someone who somehow managed to get ahold of the globalname sexyjay? Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Based on that alone I say odds are against it having been an unJay.
EDIT: FWIW, I personally don't anticipate animated weapons or holsters. But based on the cryptic text from Jay, I'm anticipating them finally getting the back slot to work properly and weapons as static costume details for that slot are in the works.
Those animated costume pieces change postions when changing the various width and heigth sliders though. Which means the animations need to be changed or you're dropping your guns in midair or sticking them into your hip or theigh. Just think granites and lobsters chucking coffee over their shoulder. It's something entirely different from holding weapons in your hands.
Non animated holsters (including the 2 frame thing) wouldn't have that problem, but since we still don't have them I think it's safe to say that there are other issues with that don't make it all that simple as people are assuming. |
Meaning we should probably wipe out half the emotes and costume pieces currently on live, because hey; what you described is exactly what they do there already.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

This is exactly the kind of upgrade we need right now. This needs to be added like, you know NAO! Or a few years ago.
Sadly, never gonna happen.
You guys know how it works in this game:
The NPCs get all goodies, like backparts, holsters, quivers, jetpacks, animated hair...
Players? We get some cool costume pieces in the paid boosters from time to time. It sucks.
Y'know what I'd like, a slightly different version of the police belt, one wihtout the PR22 baton. I dig the other bits and pieces on the belt and I'd also like to see it trimmed in regular light tan leather.

Yeah, the holsters/scabbard wouldn't animate or anything but either leave them empty or give an "empty" or "filled" option and let the player decide which they like better.
I was thinking about this the other day. I have no idea how easy/difficult things like animated holsters or backpacks on the back node or adding leg nodes is. But, they do already have things such as arm bands under the Shoulder options that could be used to make arm pouches or knife sheathes or whatever. They also have insanely long hanging belts (such as the martial arts ones) that could instead be a scabbard or other hanging pouches, ammo, etc. And, of course, the Chest detail option that already has the Stealth (?) one with a few pouches can be build upon to make a "detective" style gun holster or more pouches, etc. In short, even without changing anything about the character models now, they could really add a lot of these details that people have been asking for.

In any case, I'm hoping for quivers and the like in the future at some point!
- Katana (Straight and curved) Scabbard on the back. Personally I want a handle with it but I know some would want it to appear "empty". - Double Katana Scabbards (Straight and curved.) Diagaonally on the back, paralell to each other like the Tsoo ninja's have. - Katana Diagonal on the back, and tanto\wakasashi scabbard horizontal across the lower back. - Broad sword scabbard on the back. |
I agree wholeheartedly that this is long overdue for having as graphics. Holsters and scabbards should be costume pieces, but my guess is, if so many people are willing to pay for them, they -are- going to be a booster pack, such is the world of commerce :/
I'd like to see katana scabbards at the hip on the belt, that is the proper way to carry them. Behind the back stuff - that's Hollywood invention, didn't really carry them that way, the draw is too awkward and takes too much time.
Have you ever done this IRL? I have and let me tell you for most Katana scabbards it does NOT work. The Katana is a long weapon you just don't have the arm length to do it. That said Game =/= RL, just know that its going to look "wrong" no matter what they do.

Also, though Scrapper Katana draws from the hip, Stalker Ninja Blade draws from the back.
I prefer drawing from the hip and do want to see hip-mounted scabbards, but both methods are represented in-game.

Personally, I don't care if the animation has me pulling swords out of my butt, I still want sheathes, holsters, etc for my costumes. Pulling them from the "wrong" place won't be any worse than pulling them out from thin air.
The big problem with holsters/scabbards/etc., if I remember correctly, was (and still is, really) the presence of or absence of the weapon. I am sure it would be fairly easy to draw a belt with a scabbard for a katana (ignoring, at least for the time being, the multitude of probable clipping issues). But due to the mechanics of the games, the artists either have to draw the scabbard with the sword in it, or with out it. There is no way (currently) to have the sword in the scabbard, then upon attacking and drawing the sword, have the scabbard appear empty. The same would apply with pistol holsters and whatnot. And let's not even get into weapon customization. A holster designed to hold 2 standard semi-automatic pistols would look different then a holster designed to hold 2 mini-uzis.
Naturally, people who want scabbards apparently wouldn't care if it didn't look particularly right. But is that really true? A costume option, for which you've been waiting a LONG time, finally gets introduced to the game, but doesn't work with your particular character? Even if a few could get past it, the general population of the game would, I think, be upset that it did not work across the board.
Until/unless they can get this looking fantastic and error free, I would rather not have them.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
Would it be any worse than, say, the tactical belt where I never draw the night stick (even when I'm using the baton option for War Mace)? Or the ammo belts that never get depleted?
There's plenty of NPC models that include holstered guns, knives, throwing stars, grenades and other things that are never drawn or used. Yet people ask for the same tactical vest/belt options seen on Crey/5th Col/Council/Paragon PD/Malta/KoA all the time.

We'll probably have to pay through the nose for any sort of major addition to customization at this point with how priorities have shifted to more numbers, less graphics lately.

In general, I'd like to see more weapon customizations. I'd be happy with a Weapon Pack as it were too.
Personally, I'd really like to see more options in Energy Rifle [and I'm sure others are similarly underserved], but I also understand it's not too likely to happen since it's a single AT weapon. Although, I could get hopeful in that it appears that the steampunk rifle is usable as an energy rifle. No clue if it looks moronic or not, but hey.
Let's Dance!
You guys are thinking too much about it, just draw the darn scabbards empty.
If they ever do get the technology right, I hope they fix Infernal. He's always looked goofy to me with his ax both on his back and in his hands when I fight him.

Would I rather have a sheath/holster/scabbard that animated? Sure, but I will accept the them as full and empty all the time until such time as they can fit in animated versions.
Please tell me that people have also asked for shotguns(from safeguard and mayhem side missions, though I kind of wish we had a recipe for this too) and other assorted temp weapons that are currently animated as pulling from the back too?
Why not just get over it and add quivers already? Hells bells, the animation is already there like the character is reaching for a quiver of arrows on his/her back...
Scabbards? Yes please, tho I can see problems for the dual blades characters.
AND, more gun/rifle choices. Maybe something a bit more futuristic, ala Han Solo type blaster pistols or Imperial Stormtrooper rifles.
The darkness is feared for a reason.
Exactly. This character is generally believed to be the test of new holster technology.

This was not a test of any "new holster" technology.
Maelstrom has functional holsters because the devs control EVERY MOVE HE WILL EVER MAKE.
Maelstrom's holsters were not a test for implementing holstered weapons on a large-scale. They are a custom one-off set of animations specifically built to the actions Maelstrom can take, and are only available on Maelstrom's frame with his body build and exact costume parts.

I find it very strange that the OP wnats all the sword sheats on the back. I don't know any example of a real-life warrior who would carry his scabbard on his back, and I do think if you want martial artists at least them act like martial artists, even if they're super-powered martial artists.
Scabbard belts are much more classy anyway.
I mean seriously, carrying swords on your back looks so silly.
