I wouldn't make a distinct starter zone at all, instead I would combine character creation with a questionnaire that determines the character's starting circumstances -not unlike character creation in Morrowind or Mount and Blade- and have them accordingly drop off in a kind of tutorial zone that is tailored to the result of the questionnaire, have them do one or two small story arcs there and then have them go to one of several choosable key zones that would offer full functionality and should encourage players of most levels to frequent it, so that it invokes the feeling of a proper living city, albeit not necessarily capital city, which could already be accessed and offer work for all levels, but you wouldn't be dropped off there anyway.
In fact I'd prefer a game world which works a bit like late single-player open-world games with several interlaced zones and smooth transition (think GTA or Gothic). I don't know how well that would work with an MMOG though, technically. -
That's not the right design for a character named Dysentery. This is.
He's The Oregon Shooter, Dark Miasma/Double Pistols. -

Oh wait, this is only NPCs? Hmmm...
Well maybe they ship out of use Clockworks somewhere else to make profit from the trade. Or some company just copied the look of Clockworks because they thought it was nifty, or whatever. -
Even if I'm relatively new I already made two redesigns, they are both very minor though.
Old is left, new is right.
He also got his swords switched, so he finally has his Katana in the right and his Wakizashi in the left. -
Well if the beginner quests of Galaxy City wouldn't be incredibly ****** runner jobs, then there wouldn't have been much grounds for that joke article.
Wonder what weird alien race it will bring with it. -
Quote:Oh right, now that you say it I do remember.Because the Broadsword draw animation pulls a sword from the back, really. We're working with what we have on hand.
Strange.
Quote:Maelstrom has functional holsters because the devs control EVERY MOVE HE WILL EVER MAKE.
I mean it's not like clipping is the devs' prime concern anyway, I have come to know quite a few costume parts that don't exactly work perfectly well with each other. -
Well the brain has certain ways it works. And personally I do think understanding the brain's working does do more good to cosmology than understanding how supernovas are formed, though apparently in this case they didn't even try to understand how things happen and instead just gathered data on what things happen when so they can be exploited economically, which I guess makes for inferior science. I'm not all that passionate about science used for economics though.

What did he say in the end? "Oh. Blamey?"
Either way lovely! -
I'd love to get handcuffed by that Agent 13.
Would you mind making a Chibi out of this handsome lad?
Don'T make him too evil, he's actually beyond good and evil, just following his warrior honor codex. Oh, and he has a Katana and a Wakizashi.
And would you mind drawing him with a sword pair as shown e.g. here? I'd be very grateful. -
If I could sculpt I'd totally begin doing that now as well.
I never thought of this usage of auras... very interesting. -

I hate when newspapers or comparable media quote mention supposedly scientific studies without disclosing details, making the "scientific" part de facto worthless, because it could aswell be done by rubbing matchsticks together over the skull of a guinea pig and shouting "KAZA KALOOM!".
Oh, and "scientists" doesn't make "science". Case in point people who do studies with a minimal amount of people and with extreme sample bias and call it representative (most studies regarding various supposed harm effects from various sexual activities).
Generally I think newspapers should be completely outlawed and replaced by scientific papers.
Oh, I don't mean to imply this is the case here btw, I jsut got carried off. I'd be very interested in the details nonetheless. -
I find it very strange that the OP wnats all the sword sheats on the back. I don't know any example of a real-life warrior who would carry his scabbard on his back, and I do think if you want martial artists at least them act like martial artists, even if they're super-powered martial artists.
Scabbard belts are much more classy anyway.
I mean seriously, carrying swords on your back looks so silly. -
Quote:I agree with this. If you consider something that barely takes more than 4 minutes away from your one or two hours "labourious", then I think you should reevaluate your values.I guess the reason why I'm neutral on it because I don't view that as a "problem".
But considering that insisting that something should be doesn't make it happen, I do think implementing some sort of auto-teaming mechanism wouldn't be apocalypse. -
Elaborating a bit on this, they are all clothes that widely and loosely hang about, which is what people usually seek when they say they want "dresses" for men, and there's no reason to withhold them. I'm not sure anyone actually wants a prom dress for men, albeit I do think it would make for interesting (and incomparably hideous, which is however beside the point) characters.
The differences are merely their employment in different cultural settings btw, there are no innate qualities to a kilt that make it more masculine than a regular skirt.
Quote:Sexism? Simple answer...MEN don't wear dresses.
I do however agree with some of the ideas presented here. There should be more cross gender pieces, after all, as bad as it was, Robin did originally wear a tunic and short boots.
Lack of "dresses" for men isn't really the only issue here though, there are other costume pieces not available for both sexes and giants, and allegedly a suspiciously high amount of sexy pieces for females (read: fan service for the guys). -
I don't have the endurance to write down stories, as much as I do like coming up with them. I imagine I could draw ocassional small sketches though, albeit they would look like mudslime. I'm ony really good at drawing psychotic horror-trip monsters upfront.
Well, so-called "talents" are really only honed skills, and I don't see how my post makes it seem as though I thought different, but as a matter of fact not all people have their skills developed equally, or even sometimes stiffled (bad pedagogy, accidents damaging a repsectively important part of the body, etc.), which is what I was talking about.
But I guess you're right, those inhibitors you listed are probably the worst. Which, however, doesn't mean at all we can't do our best to at least weaken those inhibitors we can do something about, one of which is unusable names.
And I do think it is perfectly acceptable to set arbitrary personal rules for something that you want to make appear in an arbitrarily chosen special fashion, particularly because this isn't science that can influence society's way and quality of life, but indeed a very private and leisurely activity. I certainly wasn't happy at all when I realised I couldn't do a reasonably true to the original Tokyo Akazukin-hommage, because I just love both comic and character. -
Actually I can imagine Carrotbeard being a perfectly normal nickname for a person with a strawberry-blonde full beard.
Also I do think taking the time to free up names or implement a system where this is done automatically would be more important than implementing the whole Incarnate business at all to begin with. I mean it's a roleplaying game, not a hunter and gatherer game.
Certainly it is reasonable to suppose people to choose a different but still very fitting name if that particular one is taken, but at some point the reasonable alternatives might just all be gone (particularly if you're not all that creative with language), which I think would be worse than some guy finding out that his one character that he played some year ago suddenly would have to choose a different name, especially because if the alternatives regularly open up there's no problem for anyone to take these names as opportunity arrises, whereas this problem would over time steadily increase if no according measures were taken.
Let's please not assume that everyone is a genius character creator who comes up with the most unusual persons who in turn can make use of the most unusal names, but instead that the average Joe comes up with average heroes with average hero names. I wonder just how many Captain America or Superman variants there are as opposed to Tokyo Akazukin or Wolpertinger variants... -
The fact the Daemon is smoking makes me think of Serious Sam. So ridiculous (in a very good way).
-
It'd be really awesome without the weird glowing stuff. That makes it look like out of WoW.
I really don't like the Ascension armour myself at all. -
-
Actually, I realised today, the real problem with costumes isn't the sexism, it's the complete lack of regular non-martial arts robes for everyone.
Can't do proper Lich costumes without it! D:
And the lack of Gothic Plate Armour. And Tabards.
And while we're at it I want a Great Knife available as sword choice, please!

I saw some Community Team guy in a huge spider mecha thingy walking around on Zukunft's Mercy Island on one of my first days of gaming.

OMG SO MUCH SIGNAL COLOUR EVERYWHERE!
How can you guys cope with that? I'm not criticising or anything, just amazed.
