Careful out there midwest

Michigan here, getting out of work in 10 minutes and hoping my hour home is before the snow hits.

We are getting 10-17 inches overnight so it could be ugly with 2 inches per hour coming.

Oh it looks like sooo much fun out here. Near whiteout conditions right now.

Winds started kicking up about 1:30 ish CST. Snow started up shortly thereafter. Oh this is gonna be a fun one, that's for certain.

As I kinda mentioned upthread, in this case, We'll get a lot of snow, but it's the drifts. :::Shudders::: That's gonna be interesting to deal with.

Thank you for the time...

That is the kind of whiplash season change that I'm used to.
Was born in Ok, and lived there for near on 30 years.
I dislike the one season we have here in southern California.
Wait, to be fair to the locals that haven't lived anywhere else, There are 2 seasons in SoCal.
Summer, and that one week it rained in December where the temps got down to the lower 40s.

I much prefer Oklahoma's seasons. Winter, Tornado, Summer, lesser Tornado.

Hehe, I'll agree with you to a point.

Here in VA is somewhat chaotic....one week it will be freezing cold/snowing and then the next will be in the 50s/sunny.

The one or two months I usually 'hate' in VA is July and August because of all the humidity....ugh, some times it feels like your swimming in your own sweat just standing outside and/or in your car.

Pfft... it's not cold 'til the thermometer bottoms out. Heck, they only go to like -60 C or something.

That's because snow emits a special radiation that affects only the 'driving' part of the brain.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

I posted my teasing "It's in the mid-70s here" post earlier in the thread in anticipation of just such a whiplash. Saturday afternoon, it was 76F when I got everything loaded in the truck. Right now, it's about 15F, and there are sheets of ice on the roads everywhere they haven't been ground away by the (understandably light, but undeniably idiotic) traffic.

It could certainly be worse, though--my sympathies to those laboring under truly frigid temps, and especially to those at risk of getting snowed in. Stay warm and safe.

And the blizzard got me!

Missed Tanker Tuesday today!

Got home in plenty of time, but took some painkillers and laid down a bit to relax (the pressure drops from things like this aggravate the arthritis in my knees, back shoulder and hands).

Next thing I know, it's 4 hours later.

Grrrr!

And what's someone my age doing with arthritis?

As Indy said. It's not the years, it's the mileage.

  • Blew the knees out weightlifting in HS (and about 5 years overdue for some arthroscopic surgery)
  • A series of rather unfortunate slip-and-falls in similar weather. Oh yes, and flights of concrete stairs were involved. It's amazing my spine's still straight.
  • Broke my shoulder in the Army (technically while on leave) in a slip and fall (again) in two places.
  • Years of random damage to my hands in fights, and one SPECTACULAR spiral fracture of my left thumb that actually put me out of work for 3 months (working a hospital at the time and casts are an infection hazard).

Also Army here, also use that quote... way too often.

I think my odometer's rolled over a few times.

Actually it's not years or mileage. It's actually a weird function of YEARS x MILEAGE = BEAT-TO-CRAP.

Dreading how I'm going to feel in another 30 years...

Hyper! Hyper!

OW! What?

Your arm fell off!

Just pick it up and put it on ice. I'll have it sewn back on later like the other one.

What other one?

*THUMP!*

That sounds l a lit like Northeastern Oklahoma. a lot of lakes around so it gets rather humid during the summer. And almost as hot as SoCal. Feels much worse because of the humidity though. I don't like the dry heat because it doesn't feel as hot and I get dehydrated. Then I get all dizzy and sick and all that. Miss a day of work while I rest and rehydrate.

Have a safe and warm-ish (compared to the arctic circle) day.

Oh it's been a peach of a 24hrs...

Was without power for some 16 hours.
Seeing Drifts as high as 4ft around where I live.
Running extension cords all over the place from the portable generator to keep the Fridge and Freezer running.
Praying we don't loose power again over the next several days.
And the winds are kicking up again.

One final note. I'm gald I wasn't on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive last night. Also pleased that those who did get stuck in that mess are all ok.

Thank you for the time...

I REALLY needed a reminder? It's all they've been talking about on the news here in Detroit

They seem to think that I like ice because the ice put ice on my ice, for the ice that is already icy. Then we got freezing rain. Which I think is a sneaky way of saying ice.

Most of the cars around Chicago look more like this right now.

Note: Image #4 are cars that were actually ABANDONED on Lake Shore Drive.

As far as I know, this hasn't happened in living memory.

Chicago got 20.9 inches (about half a foot shy of the record, but the storm was MUCH more severe (wind gusts up around 67 mph).
They actually found people frozen to death...Some after getting their cars stranded less than a mile from home.

In Dallas we typically get about four weeks of winter. Two at some point in December or January, and two more in February. I don't care for the ice, but at least our winter is happening when the Steelers and Packers are in town. I know it's cold where they play football, but everything shuts down here when it gets like this(and its all ice, no real snow). So at least since I have to watch them play a Super Bowl in my hometown, I'm glad it will be a pain in the ***.

That and with the roads being so bad, maybe all the women will be safe from Ben Roethlisberger.

+5 in Calgary today and forecast for the rest of the week, would you like some ? =]

Was +12 for a couple of days last week but then it went to -25, now it's back up for a few days.

Bizarre weather patterns here.
