The Green Hornet movie

Saw an advanced screening tonight. It was decent enough. Took a while to get going, though, but the last third had plenty of action.

It's a Seth Rogen movie, and all that that implies, so if you're not a fan of his work, this probably won't change your mind about him. If you are a fan, go see it. There were several moments that had the whole theater laughing.

I've not seen any of the old Green Hornet TV shows, but I know that Rogen's portrayal is probably different than you're used to, so be warned.

It also has a good amount of language in it, so if you're thinking of taking younger kids, you may want to see it first yourself and decide if it's appropriate. I saw it in 3D, and there's not a lot that's worth the extra money, so hit the 2D.

Seth Rogan is on Mythbusters tonight for their Green Hornet episode. Wonder if they plan to flip a car upside down, then flip it back and see if it runs.

44% on Metacritic. 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not really screaming "I need to see this in the theaters." Looks more Redbox, Netflix.

Like I said, if you're a Seth Rogen fan, you'll probably like it a lot. If you're not, you probably won't. That number seems to be correct, cause I've met just about as many haters as fans of him.

Probably seeing this with the wife Sunday. I like cheesy action flicks, so hopefully it's not too bad.

One thing that bugs me about the current generation of movie reviewers is the disparity between the written review and the score.

'A rhino and muskox had sex, and the abortion that resulted was this movie. I give it a 3/5.'

Too much pandering? Maybe just an unwillingness to really rate a movie the way they feel? Maybe just trying to show off their 'scathing vocabulary' or something? Just something that's been bugging me lately, not specific to this movie in any way.

Pushed back from a summer release date to January...that's never a good sign. Admittedly part of that was due to them wanting to convert it to 3D (which is another bad sign) but going from blockbuster season to the dumping ground indicates that the studio itself doesn't have a real high opinion of this movie. Maybe I'll catch it when it hits basic cable.

I don't think Cera is loved that much either, but Scott Pilgrim got good reviews. While the trailers have looked good, there was one clip of the film that I really didn't like where they showed a fight scene and they literally highlighted certain objects just to make sure you saw them.

I normally loathe Michael Cera, But Scott Pilgrim was in my opinion one of last year's best movies, and it's in my collection.

But I'm also not a fan of Seth Rogen, but both ComingSoon.net reviews gave Green Hornet an 8 out of 10 so there has to be something to it.

The Green Hornet is being touted as a "Funny Comedy" and "Gonzo Action-Comedy" by many reviewers.

In short, it's nothing except cosmetically like the 75-year old franchise has been until now, which is what Rogan and Gondrey had been shooting for since the beginning. They basically pulled a Joel Schumacher; taking one of the serious and darker-toned classic characters and crapping "camp" all over it. (Something even the 1966 series managed to avoid)

Don't take my word for it though, I recommend "accidentally" downloading it and taking it for a test drive. If you like it, anti up the bucks and go support it in the theater (or buy the disc when it comes out.) If you don't, pass the disc to someone else to let them test-drive it as well.

Personally, I'll stick to the "real" Green Hornet, thanks.

Saw it liked it. Alot of fun and suprisingly good pacing 2 hours flew by without even noticing.

I dont reccomend seeing in3D as while the 3ds not badly done it jsut doesnt add anything to the movie.

Seth Rogan was ok as white hot flash said if your not a fan of him you wont be blown away by his performance and Rogans part is really the only complaint I have in the movie.

Rogans doesnt seem to understand story telling and character development in it. The Britt Character is basically a major league @ss and also an immature child. He seems to think the entire Green hornet thing is a big game and even after people start dieing for real he barely seems shocked by the revelation that his actions have consequences. What should have been a moment where the character develops -- even granting the semi comedic tone-- and grows some maturity he still doesnt grow up, and continues to act like its all one big joke.

While Rogan didnt ham it up and over do the campiness liem i feared he might, he didnt take the opportunity to play a character with growth potential and run with it like he could have.

Jay Chou was awesome as Kato and while he didnt quite channel the spirit of Bruce Lee was very solid and appropriate for the role. Kato and by proxy Chou pretty well holds the entire story together, and makes it go down a lot easier.

All told a worthwhile 2 hours spent, and a lot fo fun had.

Warnings as previously stated, are language, and mostly comic bookish violence except for a few deaths of bad guys that are fairly extreme.

Even Pajiba who lives to rip on movies couldn't do it. They said it was a decent enough film because it didn't try to be a great film. It if tried to be great, then it would have sucked, and I'm perfectly fine with that. It just doesn't mean I'm going out to a theater and spending even matinee money on it. Review

Ah, then I'll hate it. Thank you for warning me.

The best I can say is it's a terrible but fun movie. If that makes any sense.

To me it seems they really wanted to show off Kato, possibly for it's release overseas.

If it can get a sequal, I think it can be saved, by the fact, that this can easily be seen as the origin film, where in the second they take things more serious.

And that could be the flaw. Except for at the end fight, the Green Hornet seems to be a bumbling idiot, then on the end fight a good "Okay he's getting into his own...and...now he lost it." moment.

Watched it in 3D, and not worth the 3D. It's not that it was so much terrible, as just not needed. It was a waste of an extra 2 dollars. Which btw, I only saw it in 3D as that was my only option.

Just came back, and thought it was a good popcorn flick. Unfortunately the only version my theater had was the 3D one, and it wasn't not really worth seeing it in 3D, just see the 2D version if it's available in your area.

Setting the bar lower might get a few more bucks, but it sure doesn't win much respect.

Same here. Only familiar with the original characters/property on the most basic level, but I thought it was fun, action packed, and serious enough when it needed to be.

I also think this might be one of those movies that really benefits from seeing it with a theater full of other people. Can't speak for the 3D, but I honestly don't think I can justify paying for the odd IMAX release of this flick.

Saw it in 2d. Went expecting a campy popcorn flick, and got it. (And I admit it, I went to see Jay Chou, aka Kato - and no, I had no idea he was this huge music/acting star in the Asian arts world.) Went with hubby and other gaming friends, and it was a hoot, reminding John and me of some of our Champions RPG games of days past. I'm not a Seth Rogen fan, nor have I really seen any of his stuff, so no preconceived notions about him going into it. All in all, I thought it was fun.

Saw it tonight. Honestly felt like the film started one way and ended another. In the beginning they almost seemed to be going for a certain level of realism, not like super real but believable and there was a kind of weight to the violence and the idea that he and Kato were novices to the world of crime and fighting crime.

The last half or third of the movie just seemed to get too involved in it's own action, it got cartoonish and lost the sort of weight associated with the violence in the first half of the movie.

Not a bad flick but it could have been a little more consistent, and the last half felt too long, the action sequences kind of drug on in places, longer action sequences isn't always better.

I lucked out with my theater, they had 3 showings of the film that weren't 3D (compared to the 9 showings that are.....)

The movie was longer than I thought it would be, not that it's a bad thing, but a pleasant surprise. I found the movie to be pretty good, despite Rogan's character, he could of been better. I am a Seth Rogan fan, though I loathed Observe and Report...

Kato's fights were excellent to watch. It seemed Rogan was going to finally come into his own at the end, but kinda faltered...but he still is a developing hero who just a little while ago was a drunken fool.

and yeah...some of the villain deaths were pretty graphic o_O

[SPOILERS!!!!]

I wish at towards the end when Scanlon basically confessed to killing Britt's father, that Britt actually had the recording and was able to upload it to the internet. They're basically going for a anti-hero with Hornet and Kato, they could of let them have that much before the killed Scanlon.

The point of the highlighting is similar to the show Chuck, in which Chuck 'flashes' the necessary information to handle the obstacles he is facing. Kato has high reaction times which lets him process information faster - we get to see this as a slow mo effect that points out what Kato is seeing and gives clues to his next moves. It's not done just so the audience sees the weapon etc.

Due to the similarities to Chuck, I wouldn't have bothered with it that effect if I were filming/directing but there ya go.

I knew nothing of the Green Hornet other than a few snippets about the old TV series I had read and their appearance on Batman in the 60s.

I was mostly unfamiliar with Rogen. I looked at his list on IMDB and it seems most of his work I've encountered has been voice acting. After seeing him in the movie I can see people not liking him. I was indifferent to him. Kato was awesome.

I saw it in 3D because 2D wasn't an option at our theater and the 3D was unnecessary. It was interesting (first 3D movie I've seen in decades) but not beneficial to telling the story. The Thor trailer in 3D seemed to make more use of 3D than the entire Hornet movie.

I enjoyed it quite a bit and will be adding it to my DVD collection when it comes out.

Not surprising considering who the ORIGINAL Kato was. I mean who remembers the actor that played the Green Hornet?

Besides part of the fun of the original was that his sidekick was a much better fighter than he was both story wise and viewing wise. Green Hornet looked like the 60's Batman with guns and all the aweful fight scenes that go with that. Kato actually had decent fight scenes at least for that time anyway.

That was the show, was it that way for the comics?

Now personally, I know nothing of the comic, and just a bit about the show.

So me as a film viewer just wished they took the movie a bit more serious. A little less hamming it up (which I think Seth Rogen and the guy who played the villain did).

Which might be hard to explain, as I loved the GH's last real fight scene Though I think the face Rogen made at the last fumble hammed it up a bit more than needed.

Thusly why I said it was "terrible but fun" I think the hamming it up aspect ruins others taking comicbooks to film seriously.
