There's PVP in CoX?
I've never been big on PvP, but the times I have PvP'd I've had lots of fun. I even made it to a few Victory server weekly PvP events. I know some people have taken issue with the PvP mechanics in the past, but lack of rewards is what keeps me away from it (drop rates, cool down timers etc). I've never been the "bragging rights" type so when I look at PvP vs PvE, I'd rather be out playing content that gives me a chance for purples, salvage, merits, vanguards, XP, INF etc than content that gives me a very slim chance of a recipe with a extremely long cool down time, no merits/vanguards/salvage and decreased XP, INF. But the devs can't please everyone...
Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

I've had a lot of fun running a Tactical Officer in a Cruiser at all levels of space-based PVP, but the most fun PVP for me is at the Lt Commander level, both in space and on the ground. IMO that's where it's all the most balanced and Science, Engineering, and Tactical are all fun to play.
Also had fun with the Alliance Battles and escorting/intercepting turtles over in the Jade Quarry. Fort Aspenwood is okay, but not as much fun (for me) as the quarry.
Bloody Bay is where you get Shivans.
Siren's Call... my 'anti-stalker' /dev blaster was TP'd into some sort of small building/enclosure and couldn't get out. Whee. But I kept at it. Then came I13.

Well when Castle gets time to finish his pvp change.... oops.
Yeah, pvp = dead.
ok, that was a little harsh, but really, come on, that ship has sailed, coh does not have the population to warrant significant investment in pv., its dead, those who still enjoy it will do what they do, but it just doesn't really matter.
Oh, I dunno... The potential for good PvP in CoX was enormous. By now? It's probably far too late. Not because the system has been "broken" for too long - but because those who are left enjoying PvP, however many or few that many be, might not take kindly to a complete re-work of the basis for it.
I think it's fair to say that a 'direct combat' approach just doesn't work as well for a game with the kind of design CoX has. Mebbe I'm wrong! It just seems to me like an objective-based approach would be a whole lot more fun all-'round. For instance, instead of all these arena-based tournaments... what if the arena had been designed with extra 'speciality' events? Competitive Mayhem/Safeguards, for example! And yet... something more than just that. Events that follow the Praetorian Zone Event style and work in phases. Using the mayhem/safeguard example again... The first phase might be for the 'attacker' team to stir up enough trouble in the city-zone to draw in the PPD; while the 'defender' team... does something else. The second phase could have our attackers taking on the PPD directly, and the defenders reinforcing them. The idea, thus far, is to avoid tons of direct player-versus-player combat until... Phase 3: Robbery! A direct assault on the bank; a mad attacker-vs-defender rush with time dwindling and the heat racking up.
... Maybe it's just me, but if PvP had been given that kind of focus from the beginning... I dunno. 'Super Powers being too superpowered' might have been less of an issue.
I've played this game longer than I have any other MMO, and there are a lot of things I like about this game, but PvP isn't one of them.
Truthfully, I think a lot of the problems PvP has here, goes back to some design decisions States made back in the day, that the current staff has to live with, and try to work around. And its really too late to do much about it now anyway. Looks over at CO, and PvP really isn't any better over there( suprise, suprise), it remains to be seen if DCUO will manage it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, If they just demolished the PvP part of the game all together, and build up again from the ground up, using GuildWars as a guide, they might get PvP to a decent level.

Truth be told I got soured on PvP years back and I now stay the heck out of all PvP zones. All the broken promises when PvP first came out, PvP will not effect PvE being prominent among them, and the lousy fixes Toggle dropping for instance.
Right now I don't care if they made PvP perfect. I will not participate, too many bad memories around it. Playing retoggle the tank is one.
I hope PvP dies a slow and excruciatingly painful death.

Yeah your right man lets fire Castle the destroyer of PvP! Oh hey wait a minute...
It's dead.
The forty or fifty hardcores left are going to do a league on Freedom, zones are a mess. Zones are a horrid amalgamation of glue on your superboots and reduced efficiency in everything. Serious pvp builds costs close to 8-10 billion, at the very least.
It's a mess and the Devs won't spend time on it because not enough players engage in the process.

The devs are currently on filling in the rest of GR and End Game content.
I don't see them fixing pvp anytime soon.
Also the current and upcoming direct competitors to this game don't do anything better in pvp. In fact for one of them (one launching this month) travel suppressions if 5x worse than it is here from what I've heard from a few folks who used to pvp here. So there really is no incentive (sadly) for them to tackle pvp AGAIN for the 3rd time, anytime soon . . . if ever.

Was only playing it like an hour ago and while there is some travel suppression the pvp is.. Oh jeez i am lost for words here. I cant think of a superlative that can do justice to just how much better the pvp is in that game compared to CoH.
Castle and Posi ruined pvp. Thats it.
And while CoH has come on in leaps and bounds in pve for me that new game is looking a lot more attractive just because they have put a lot of work into the pvp. Powers and mechanics on the whole are the same as PvE. And the open world pvp adds a lot of excitement to lvling and quests. In fact pvp is a huge part of the game. I know that is a crazy concept for a game that is based on comic based superhero's and supervillains. I mean its not like they ever really fight in the comics is it?
Dont get me wrong I have a huge amount of love for CoH and all the hours and hours of fun it has given me. But that other game has got a lot of the Superhero side of things really nailed. The combat is exciting and fluid. No punching thin air half the time. And for me the real clincher is that there is viable and fun pvp. Less costume options I can happily live with.
And the open world pvp adds a lot of excitement to lvling and quests. In fact pvp is a huge part of the game.

If I want to PvP, I go where there is PvP. I do NOT want it forced upon me against my will.
I still occasionally PvP here and enjoy it, precisely because when I decide I've had enough PvP, I can leave the zone and know that I'm done with PvP, instead of deciding I've had enough PvP and having to log out of the game because I have no choice in whether I PvP or not.
Open world PvP is, more often than not, a breeding ground for the worst kind of gamer there is: the people who delight in going out of their way to ruin someone else's good time. As I said, I enjoy PvP, but I enjoy it when I WANT to enjoy it, I don't want to have to fight off a bunch of trash talking jacktards just to go from point A to point B.

Thanks for convincing me to never buy that game. I have ZERO interest in a game where some jackhole can gank me any time he feels like it, just to be a jerk.

Sounds like the PvE servers would be absolutely perfect for you. No griefing and as much pvp content as you like on your own terms.
For example the signature character pvp is perfect for people who just want to have a fairly balanced pvp blast without spending ages grinding out all the best pvp gear as it uses all pre-made characters.
That is all
