So what do you predict in the state of the game address?

They should say something soon though, with the eminent release of the distinguished competitor's game coming online, some words would be better than no words at all. Maybe not a full-on 'state of game' post, but something for us to try to parse for any smidgens/gnaw on the bones of possibilities and to placate the handful of players that might jump otherwise.

The jumpers are not going to be placated into doing otherwise by an optimistic news letter.

Given that any mentions of plans and/or schedules will be taken to be a legally binding promise, and trumpeted as a LIE if it falls through... I'd say "not saying a damn thing until you're 100% sure" would be a far better strategy.

This needs to be re-stated over and over and over again, in giant red flashing letters.

Don't worry, those that jump ship will be back in a month when they've finished the other game.

@Doctor Gemini

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.

Im hoping it'll be more about the actual direction of the game then a buncha silly hints that most likely wont ever happen...(I.e. city vault)

Rumors on posi leaving and the older devs gone now does have me a bit worried thaat by the time we get to fully be an incarnate we wont have much of a game left and frankly im only here after all these years for the high lvl content..if it gets pushed aside I wont stick around

Yes, shame on them for mentioning they were working on something that several months later turned out to have unsolvable problems. How dare they get our hopes up like that.

I think the communication/information is poor in this game. It would be nice to know some highlights about the next year etc. I know this scares them to death but just qualify any news by noting it is subject to change. Then any whiners can just read that

I see some great games on the horizon and this game might be put on the back burner again for me. The devs just tend to follow a similar formula and don't stray too much from it. Sometimes when I play it feels like the same old game. Sure, lots of QoL improvements but how has the game play changed. I know they have made some new types of innovations but they aren't that significant (giving you 'options' in many new missions where the end result isn't really effected by your decision - just one example).

The game is fun but I am playing a lot less these days. Might be time to take a break again.

Thing is, even with the necessary qualifiers people *STILL* take it as gospel and not subject to change etc

As an example, the release date for I19 was listed with an "'ish" date.. ok, not perfect but people still went and started complaining about the dev's breaking promises etc. Granted, maybe the dev's shouldn't have put the date up on a slide at the meet and greet, BUT they did put -ISH onto the end of it.

No matter what you do, some people will grasp at straws when something happens/doesnt happen

I thought it'd be nice to give us a list of ideas they might have cooking and get our feedback (maybe like that survey they did a couple years ago).

Anyway, it would be nice to have a state of game update. It seems many other games provide this.

Jam will be promised. We will be assured it will be excellent jam, possibly the finest jam the devs have ever produced. It will be arriving soon.

I'm hoping they talk about they are trying to resolve the constant disconnects and severe lag when the server load is yellow...

Blizzard has tons more money and programmers to throw at new systems... just saying.

What happened was that they made a design for City Vault that worked quite well when they tested it on the internal test server with 20 dev characters, but when they tried scaling it up they found on 11 servers with hundreds of thousands of characters it would cause so much lag it made the game unplayable.

At this point their options were "start back at square one", which means programmers who were supposed to be free by then would still be working on City Vault, which means other planned features would have to be delayed or scrapped, or "put the whole City Vault on ice until someone comes up with a better way to make it work".

The point is, this was something they were working on when it was mentioned in the State of the Game, and they didn't know they'd have to scrap it eventually.

I think if you're expecting specifics, especially about bugs or QoL features, you'll be disappointed. That's never been what the State of the Game has been about.

The longer this game goes, the more these addresses will shift toward "Thank you for continuing to play this game."

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Please, this game has had the most stable dev team in pretty much MMO history. Devs come and go like the tide in other games. Those who are gone will be missed by us, but the game is in good hands dev side

Bean-counter and publicity wise? Meh

Cynical you may be but most likely 99% correct.

When has any of the "State of the Game" addresses actually given real information about new things coming? Maybe there is an exception once or twice when we knew we were getting x feature so they said it was coming in the SotG address.

SOE managed to screw up yet another strong IP. I get frustrated when I think that they got the rights to arguably the strongest comic IP of all time and this is what they did with it.

Here's hoping Marvel goes with a more PC less console approach (but I don't hold out much hope as every MMO developer and their brothers seem to be aiming for consoles these days).

I'd have to agree here...

I predict they will have some minor new addition in mind, like adding "Otter" to the list of monstrous heads. They'll decide to give a little hint of it by saying something like, "Expect to see more animals in Paragon City soon! Wink, Wink." Players will interpret this to mean:

1. Whole new sets of costume parts so we can look like were-anything-ever-imagined.
2. An animal themed powerset for every archetype
3. An entire ark of animal pet temporary powers
4. New four legged, legless, and avian skeletons for NPC's and player characters.
5. At least one faction of enemies made up of animals.
6. New wilderness zones to hold all of these animals, with accompanying missions and a new task force.
7. All of the above

When none of these appear in I20 and we ask what happened to the animals, some dev who doesn't realize what people are expecting will look at the development schedule to see when the Otter heads are going in. He will post "soon" on the forums.

When the otter heads finally arrive, no one will even notice. (Except the tiny handful of ecstatic people with otter themed characters who can finally realize their vision! Except the ears aren't quite right, and could we get otter paws as a glove option?) The devs will finally realized that, once again, people's expectations have far exceeded what they were planning or able to deliver.

All future questions about the "promised" animal stuff will be completely ignored.

By the end of the year, all of the animal stuff will be added to the long list of things the dev's promised but never delivered, and will be brought up by angry, bitter veterans for years to come. (Myself included. What happened to the Blood of the Black Stream? I want!)

My mutant defender "Yiu Otter Noh" cares deeply about this upgrade! (And, most likely, would reject the new head because it just doesn't look right. :P )
