Purple recipes are a Myth

... I realize there not, but they sure seem like it.

/vent on

In that last few days I have done... 3 Lady Grey Taskforces, 1 Apex (I hate you), and gone on a killing spree at the "Wall" and Rikit war Zone (to farm Vanguard).

# of Purple Recipes gotten by me..... ZERO!

On one lady Grey Taskforce, a memeber of the group got 3!!... 3!! in a single TF *blarg*

Ok /vent off

Anyone else find that the RNG on Purples just hates them?

PS - I have multiple 50s and have NEVER seen a single Purple drop to any of my toons.

If you want purples -

Run hero tips.
Run tfs

Use reward merits, convert to hero merits.
Use Hero merits to buy the recipes for enhancers that are selling for 150million, like lotg global recharges.

When you have sold 2 or 3 of these (after you crafted them), place a low bid for the recipe (not the enhancement) that you want.

Wait a week. Play for fun. Forget about purples. Check the market. Hey, look you got a purple recipe.

Repeat.

Any purple drops you get are just "lagniappe".

Time to adjust your expectations.

I think the way the numbers work, on an average ITF one person on the team might get a purple.

When you're on an 8 person team, compared to soloing, you're cutting your chances by 7/8.

I think when we decided we were gunning for purples, 4 person team playing once a week, it took us maybe three months for each member of the team to get a purple. And we had a really high kill-per-minute rate.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

There was a bug in the past that prevented purple drops (due to an uninitialized variable). It's possible that a similar bug still exists and is affecting you. It seems unlikely at this point, but it's possible.

The way to determine this is to run solo missions and tote up 10,000 kills. You should get 2-4 purples if the estimates of the drop rate are correct.

When I made a concerted effort to run solo missions at x8 with my brutes and tankers I got purples at the expected rate -- after the patch that fixed the purple drop bug -- about one every 2000-3000 kills.

Another thing to realize is that there's only one chance per team for purple drops when a mob is defeated. When you team with seven other players your chances are therefore eight times less than when you solo. That's why it seems to take so long to get purples doing those TFs. People who get lots of purples are soloing.

If you solo groups that you can defeat easily at x8 you may take two or three times longer to defeat them than on a team, but you'll still get drops at three or four times the rate you do on a team of eight. Alternately, you can duo with a debuffer like a Dark or Rad Emission and benefit from a faster defeat rate but only share with one other person.

If your goal is get purples I suggest beefing up one of your brutes or tankers so they can solo x6 or x8, and run for several hours and see what shakes out. People have gone crazy with Fire/Kins in the past, but they often have to be extremely selective what maps and enemies that can solo at x8. If you have a tanker or brute with a couple of AoEs (or even just one good AoE), and you utilize your inspirations well -- they drop like rain when you solo -- you can be very effective. And you aren't locked into one particular map with one kind of enemy the way so many Fire/Kins are.

To Clarify my current main Im working on is Ele/SS/Mu and can easyly Tank +4/x8 and kill them thanks to plenty of AoEs and ST attacks.

Killing things in mass is not a issue. Getting a Purple to drop appears to be RNG hates me.

My Goal isn't to get purples, my rant is just frustation in not getting any after all these toons and time.

I didn't get one for nigh on two years. Then for two in one mission.
On a Level 10 sk'd to a level 50.
Oh, and got a Hecatomb drop some time later on, although I cannot for the life of me remember how long or where.

I doubt someone got 3 on one TF. Unless you know the person, personally and can trust that. They prolly had them on the toon already.

1) I've never gotten a purple on a TF. The odds are just to high on a team of 8.
2) To increase your purple luck, either get a farm toon, or run missions solo set to as high of a team as you can handle.

I don't believe the hype of the suggestion of running more TF's for more purples over the suggestion of farming/solo missions. The ratios just dont back that theory up.

Theres no need in upping the difficulty. 54s dont drop more than 47-50s. I get a couple per weekend by soloing a farm set to 0x8. If you don't like to farm alot, then just get a toon that is good at it, run 1 or 2 quick farms a day then play on the teams that you like. It'll increase your odds. It sucks having to solo alot to get the "goodies", but that's todays game.

Good luck on your search.

I don't even worry about them. If I sit there and go "Man, I wish I could have a purple drop", it will never happen. If I just play the game normally without worrying too much about whetehr I get one or not, my drop rate seems to be one every few weeks. I had a drought of about 6-7 months between purples, and then got two of the same set within 5 minutes of each other.

To get an idea of exactly how rare they are, try this:

Take 2 10 sided dice, and designate one as the tens column, and one as the ones column. Now, once you have done that, start rolling them and see how long it takes you to roll 01 3 times in a row. That's about what your odds of a purple drop are going to be.

Yes, I am aware that would be a colossal waste of time, it's just an illustration of how rare they really are. I don't know what the actual drop rate is, but my example here should give a vague idea of what the game has to do to give you one.

When you defeat an enemy, it makes a roll to see if you get a recipe from them, then it makes a roll to see whether it is common, uncommon, rare, or ultra rare. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the number it has to roll below for an ultra rare is something like 0.05.

It has to make a series of rolls, and they all have to roll below a particular (very low) number in order to give you a purple recipe. Most of the time it will not, but occasionally someone will have a streak of good luck and it will do it twice in rapid succession.

On the other hand, you're only killing maybe 700 or 800 dudes so it's entirely reasonable that no one gets a purple for the entire task force.

I'm not sure were all the "get a farm toon" and "go Farm stuff at blah blah" are coming from. I thought I made it pretty clear I have and do both *shrug*. But I do apphriate the helpful suggestions. I don't need them, but others reading this thread may find the information useful.

As to the 3 Purples in one TF, I have grouped with this person before and they always seemed on the level. So without reason to doubt him, I have to believe he really did get 3 purples on that TF. RNG is just that I suppose... Random.

Anyways since posting this yesterday someone must have felt sorry for me.

I go into my first tip mission of the day, hit KO blow on the nearest Minion and POW.

Ragnorok: Chance of Knockback

The Purple Dead zone has been broken LOL. Someone must have turn on my "Can recive purples" Code.

Granted it wasn't the best of Purples, compared to what you can get but I was VERY very excited to finaly see one drop never the less.

To make things double exciting, I my glee of joy I hit my AoEs and see the following pop up.

Incarnate Shard Bonded

Sweet!!

So not only did I get my purple recipe, I also got the last shard I needed to upgrade to my T2 Incarnate Enchamcent

If you want purples, you need to understand how to get purples.

Purple recipes can drop from any mob that can drop a level 50 common IO recipe. Which is so say, a level 47 minion, a level 46 LT, a level 45 boss, a level 44 EB, and a level 43 AV. Anything above those level ranges has a chance to drop purples, and its the same chance no matter what level your fighting (basically a level 54 Boss, and a level 45 boss both have equal chances of dropping a purple)

So now that you understand how they drop, you have to run at -1/8, OR plan ahead, and once you ding level 47 grab a radio missions. Don't run said radio missions, just keep it in your mission list. Then ding 50. And run that missions at 0/8, all day long. Every single mob in that mission will have a chance to drop a purple, and at level 50, they are all -3 (atlest) to you, so you'll trash them up pretty easily.

That is how to effectively farm for purples. Granted, all your other drops will be in the level 46 - 48 range, and those don't sell very well, but you will get purples too, and it will be super easy, and super fast.

I understand this vent.
I have had exactly 2 purples. That's it. In all these years. 2. The randometer just doesn't like some of us I guess.

Now, I play my 50's without worrying about the illusive purple and have a fun time! If I ever get another one, I think I may S***! heh.

Since Purples were first introduced to the game I've had about 20 of them drop across all of my various characters. Based on how much I play and on the reports of everyone else I would tend to rate my number of drops to be more or less average. *shrugs*

I'll preface this by saying that I do not any any way care about purples, their dropping or not, and/or farming for purples. I post this solely so that you all can laugh at my misfortune and the extreme hate the RNG has for me.

That said: I had one purple drop 3 days after they were introduced into the game.

And.
Not.
One.
Since.

Just be glad your luck is not the same as mine.
