As to the 3 Purples in one TF, I have grouped with this person before and they always seemed on the level. So without reason to doubt him, I have to believe he really did get 3 purples on that TF. RNG is just that I suppose... Random. Anyways since posting this yesterday someone must have felt sorry for me. I go into my first tip mission of the day, hit KO blow on the nearest Minion and POW. Ragnorok: Chance of Knockback The Purple Dead zone has been broken LOL. Someone must have turn on my "Can recive purples" Code. Granted it wasn't the best of Purples, compared to what you can get but I was VERY very excited to finaly see one drop never the less. To make things double exciting, I my glee of joy I hit my AoEs and see the following pop up. Incarnate Shard Bonded Sweet!! So not only did I get my purple recipe, I also got the last shard I needed to upgrade to my T2 Incarnate Enchamcent  |
I found one two months ago on my 28 scrapper, lvl 4 at the time who was teaming with another lvl 4 and a lvl 49 doing tips in atlas park. Needless to say, that purple cash is still there.
Just ran 3 farms. I was trying to get the last 4 shards for my radial. I got them, plus 2 Apoca's. A dam/rech and a dam/end. Lucky night. Not to mention the Rag i got yesterday. Random is random, but they drop more if you go looking for them. 
3/4 of the 8 or so purple recipes I've had drop to me, dropped when I was assisting my friend on her prestige farming. Which basically meant I went along side her on her missions, she was level 50 and set to +1/+8. I played various of my characters, controllers, defenders, and aoe scrappers (spine/fire and spine/dark mostly)... they got about 6 purples (possibly 7, couldn't find the 7th but might have sold it), and I got 2 playing normally on my 50s (one on an ITF and one while soloing a police radio mission).
That's in the time since they were introduced. I remember when purples were new, she got three in a series of about 10 of the repeatable Cimerora missions that we were doing to get our highest level villains to 50 (from 46 mine/48 hers) to unlock the villain epic ATs.
She accidentally sold one to a vendor. She's done that twice now. Only thing that makes her swear
It took me another 6 months after that before I got my first purple recipe drop. It's very unpredictable.
