For those of you who play on several servers...

Here's today's random poll. Do your characters on one server have a common theme, either purposefully or accidentally?

Virtue is my main server. This is where I roll characters with a well-defined personality, or ones I want to include in my SG's RP stories. I have nine free slots, but I'm incredibly paranoid about using them because what if I get a better idea later?, so I tend to "test-run" characters on other servers.

Infinity is my second server. It's for those characters who are more about the powerset combinations. They rarely leave the server. Also, I established a SG there for an alternate universe RP idea that nobody took me up on, so it's just kind of sitting there gathering dust.

Liberty is where the good ideas emerge. I only have one constant character there, because every other character was either rerolled or moved to Virtue. Jeremy Connington, Galactic Valkyrie, Minty Fresh Lass, all got their starts here.

Victory seems to end up with interesting characters that are extremely painful to solo, and not quite good enough to move to Virtue.

Justice is where bad ideas go to die. Three characters, each one a "hm, that might be cool" followed almost immediately by "what was I *thinking*". They're not getting deleted because, well, it's not like I need the slots.

Triumph has one character, rolled as part of our SG's short-lived "Themed Triumph" program. The Let's Fighting Justice Super Squad is a Supergroup made up entirely of Defenders with a Sentai uniform.

Guardian has one character, whose concept is simply "let's make a team-buffing character, on a low-population server, on redside". I am really glad for alternate builds.

I play on Pinnacle and Victory, but I basically alternate between the two servers to keep them equally stocked with characters, so my primary motivation where a character is made is which server has fewer at the time.

Occasionally I'll pick a server based on where a name is available (or, as the case may be, not available) and sometimes I want to put related characters, such as those from the same organisation, on the same server, but no. No themes, other than my Victory characters generally being older and higher level since I started there first.

Guardian is my main server, where most of my buddies hang out. Most of my best characters are there, but I don't have a common theme.

Pinnacle is my secondary server. My group of buddies decided to start up an SG there and make a bunch of characters to level up together. At one point, we were very active there, but now I pull up one of those characters to solo once in a while, but that's mostly it.

Protector is third. We came up with two different concept/joke SGs, and made a bunch of characters there. I stuck with it longer than anyone else, and still pull up a few of the upper level characters to solo with. One of the SGs is based on Robert Apirin's Myth Adventures books, with all the character names having "Myth" in them.

Infinity is fourth. My group of buddies had generally avoided doing villains until we decided to go all out Red side . . . but we didn't have enough room on Guardian, so we picked Infinity as our Villain server. I got one to 50 just so I could get VEATS . . . and then the requirements were dropped.

Triumph is fifth. Again, a group of folks decided to start a themed SG and then abandoned it. My mid-20's character became SG leader. I moved a few lesser used characters there during the free server transfer time who don't fit the theme, but oh well.

And recently, I have started playing on Virtue. One of our buddies was spending a lot of time on Virtue when he was soloing, so I made a few characters there. With GR, it has been fairly easy to find PUGs there.

My kids mainly use Champion for their characters.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

I used to play on Union and Defiant, but got fed up soloing Brutes red-side and decided to mothball all the characters I'd made in 4 years playing EU side and come US side instead. Now I play pretty much exclusively on Virtue.

I'd love to be able to play on both sides of the ponds with any of the characters I've invested time in, but that's unlikely to happen any time soon given the general apathy towards resolving the issue and merging the server lists into one big happy family (it's only worthwhile if NCSoft can save money by merging the support staff and community tools it seems).

Guardian is where I started, when the game released. It's got the one character on it with the name we were allowed to 'save' from open beta to launch... for that, and for other sentimental reasons, characters on Guardian are like good memories. I seldom play there, but I go 'check' on the characters now and then.

Virtue is my predominantly blueside server. It's where I originally went post-Guardian days, after all my RL friends had quit the game. I went heavy into RP there for a while, and had a wonderful time, until RL pulled me away as well.

Champion is my redside server. It's where I went after I came back to the game, to find that the RP culture on Virtue had changed, I didn't know anyone anymore, and I didn't know where to fit in. Champion is also my primary server, since I favor villainy.

So, my servers aren't really 'themed', but they do have general categories.

Champion: All characters are from a book I once wrote (and never published) and all are heroes.

Freedom: All villain characters. All are members of a sicillian mob family known as La Vedova Di Mafia (the Widow's Mafia). La Bella Mafia is their leader.

Guardian: All Heroes. Every character is a member of a special division of the Paragon Police Department known as Iron Corps. The initial costume slot of every character is "in uniform." Later slots are for street clothes.

Infinity: Villains. The two oldest characters are Lord Gravenheart and Blood Priestess. They are both black magic (necromancy and conjuration respectively) practitioners. All others on this server are golems and summoned/enslaved demons who serve the first two.

Justice: Heroes. All characters are followers/clerics of a pantheon of forgotten gods called the Bellagothians (also from my book.)

Liberty: Villains. Mercenary group out for money and more money.

Pinnacle: Heroes. All-Female supergroup known as the Valkyrie Vanguard. Led by Mistress Monolith, an orphan mutant who was raised in a foster program specifically created for super-powered children. Now she is all grown up and helping other girls with similar situations.

Protector: Heroes. Ultimate Technology is a group of scientists and technologists who use their skills to fight crime... at least most of them... some just use villains as handy guinea pigs to test their theories on.

Triumph: Villains. The Nakatori Yakuza Clan. The Clan is currently at a point of stasis as the two sisters who lead it fight over whether to cling to the old ways (magic and honor) or change to modern techniques (science and enforced loyalty through drug addiction).

Victory: Heroes. RP Reality: A group of heroes gathered together by a mysterious being known only as The Guide. They do not know The Guide's true purpose, as he only appears to them in dreams and speaks only obliquely about his plans. Actual Reality: My old AD&D characters given a CoH facelift.

Virtue: Villains. Yeah, these are the bad guys from that book I wrote. They basically exist to destroy all the heroes on the Champion server. Which really sucks for them since I don't think cross-server, same account PvP is in the works any time soon.

My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw

Justice was my original server so all the characters there have some connection to a degree.

Virtue. I havent figured out yet.

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

Justice is my main server and where I play most of the time with my friends and supergroup. I only have a couple of solo characters there because...

Protector is where I make characters that are specifically for solo/pug use or to play quietly in duos with my wife (who dislikes big teams). I'm mostly there on weekends.

Infinty is my first server. There is no theme there other than hero. I do admit to have an unofficial spider theme. For an arachnophobe, I have a fascination with arachnids. Spider-man is my favorite hero, or was.

Victory is my second server. We have all villains, in the form of the Cockroach World Domination.

Guardian is all heroes, but more of a wild theme, such as anthropormorphs or heroic magical creatures. The idea is that "Those that belong to another time."

Triumph is all villains, and started out as Dragons, but we are in the process of modifying the theme. Now we have fallen angels, mutated Snakes, and dragons.

Pinnacle is my EAT server. We were in the process of dismantling it, when we learned that there will be a Praetorian Epic.

Triumph is my main server where all my highest level characters are.

I have some people on Freedom, from back when farming was kinda a pain and it helped to have a bunch of other farmers around who were willing to help pad maps and whatnot.

I had some characters on Virtue from way, way, way back- I made my first CoH character ever there, but we ended up moving to Triumph because one of my pals didn't get the memo and rolled his guy up there. Now it's the home of Fulmens' inf burning SG the Crazy 88's so I've made a few more $$$ related characters and have been spending more time back where I started.

/edit
oh, and I have heroes and villains on all of them.

Kind of the opposite actually. I try to ensure that each server has a varied mix of character types. If a new character is similar in powersets or appearance or backstory to an older one, I generally make it on another server.

Virtue: Female Heroes
Infinity: Science or Tech-themed heroes
Victory: Soldiers of Arachnos
Guardian: Praetorians and side-switchers mostly.
Triumph: Villains and Praetorians bent on mayhem more than power.

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

For a while, all my Pinnacle characters were Heroes and my Libery characters were villains, but there would always be something going on the other side that I would want to jump in on, so I made one character on the opposite side on each of those servers. The other servers are just whatever I feel like it, usually groups coming off of the forums I frequent.

There is no theme or rhyme or reason to where my characters are scattered. I have intentionally at times copied characters or created them where I don't have any character like them for variety sake but usually it is just where ever I had room.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
