what powersets could give superman a run for his money IRL?
Magic Origin'd Ninja Blade Stalker.
He'd never see the blade impaling him through the head coming.
[EDIT]With the Vanguard Katana costume piece, of course...

I dont get it. Whats in real life?
Really good graphics, player housing system but the character generation is completely random and you really have to grind to get the funds needed for any kind of character customisation...or spend ages having your character working out to get it.
Also the job system sucks and levelling takes ages.
Another MMO.

And it's hardcore mode only; die once and you have to roll a new alt.
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
According to the Justice League Series, Radiation Emission. Emit red sun Radiation and you win.

I don't think he has any particular weakness to sonics actually.
Superman is as weak against mental attacks as anyone else, I think, so along with Psychic/Mental-based powersets he would also succumb to Illusion Control.
I disagree that Masterminds would be weak against him, he's struggled against robots before, and if you take demons to be Magic origin (which they aren't necessarily, but usually are) he would be particularly weak against them, the same possibly with Necromancy. The Poison secondary might also affect him, depending on which interpretation of Superman it is and precisely what sort of poison we're dealing with.
In the DCAU, he's shown a vulnerability to electrical attacks.
Kinetics would probably slow him down quite a bit if given the chance, same with Gravity Control.
It could be argued that a Kheldian's power level might be on a cosmic-level scale, in which case they might prove a tangible threat.
Given that Soul Mastery seems to be magic-ish based, he would probably not be able to stand up to Soul Storm on his own, much as no single player character can against Ghost Widow's version of the power.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
An ontopic talk.
Reckon Illusion Control/Radiation emission controller would be able to bring him down, Phantom Army and Decoy Phantasm for the purely mental damage, Spectral Terror for the 'mental attack' front to distract him combined with Confuse and emit the right kind of radiation and you'll have one confused, scared Supes.

I didn't think about Illusion Control. That would be quite effective as well.
Definately psy. Reminds me of when a possesed Charles Xavier totally owned Gladiator, one of Marvels Superman-like characters.

You people are missing the point entirely.
ANY AT and powerset combination can defeat Superman in City of Heroes.
A Defender who only took the mandatory initial secondary power and never slotted it beyond one and then only for Endurance Reduction could take him.
It's easy:
1) See Superman.
2) Send Petition to GM.
3) Superman is Generic'd.
4) Eat delicious celebratory cookie.
My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw

But if we are talking a standard superhero battle, then all you need to defeat Superman is a writer that wants him defeated.
Let's face it: Superman can move at Flash-level speed. He can time travel.
Every fight ought to be over before the baddie can lift their weapon to fire, and even if they get a round off, Supes would be able to dodge it with ease. He could move out of range of the Kryptonite radiation before it ever reached him when the baddie opened the lead-lined box and started sneering.
And even if all of that failed, all he has to do is chant, "Remember to go back and hide Dad's keys and put up a trash can" and then voila, trash can falls on baddie, utterly foiling him.
So the only way Superman can realistically be defeated is for the writer to have Superman forget he has a super memory and then also forget to use any of the above-noted tactics, and then sit like a bump on a log while the baddie does something to him.
It is enough to make Troy Hickman weep.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
Whatever powersets this guy is using.

I'll give the big blue boy scout 'Man of Steel' alright...Omega, go load up a full missile rack! We're going cape crushing!
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Which brings up an interesting idea for a defensive powerset. The set would be based around faceplanting (no Firey/Energy Aura jokes please). You ride into your first spawn with the expectation you'll fall, but when you use the second core power of your set, a self rez, you come back stronger than before. Eact time you rez, the buff stacks to a point. The first core power of the set would obviously be a passive that provides debt protection.

.
Doomsday cannot be modeled in game because unlike CoX characters, he only gains XP when he faceplants.

Most rezzes provide debt protection anyway.
Any powerset can defeat Superman in real life, but writer's fiat is the most common. In the DC universe it might be a little trickier.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
My radiation tank uses the Kryptonite Armor primary.
...What?
Can't you just tint any power green-ish and say it's Kryptonite?

Now that i think about it i have some flashlights with Krypton bulbs...

...I didn't know Superman was around 'in real life'
i know they all would lose without kryptonite but just for halibut what set could combat superman?
i would say dom mind control powerset might but im not sure how superman is against mind attacks.
depending on how super super strength paired with invincible is maybe the brute could.
i dont think any of the mastermind powersets could except maybe demon summoning because they are all to weak.(outside the game)
stalkers dont stand achance.
corrupters dont stand a chance either.
