Awful SG recruiting practices

Can we bring in the Guyver SG way of recruitment? Granted the SG has since died, but there was a time recently when you could not go to a zone redside on Freedom, without hearing one of their spam sessions. And woe to any other sg's who were trying for members at the same time..they would get shouted down and abused.
I remember joining an ITF through a friend, with the leader of the sg having the star. He spent the whole time talking about how awesome his build was, and when I said one thing is praise of MY build (I think I solo'd a boss or something..I win the Game), he starts in saying how I should pvp him and see a good build..
Also, on the first mission, literally 2 seconds in, I get a tell asking if I want to join 'a really cool sg'. I didnt even read who it was from, just said no thanks. Then I see its from teh leader..Naturally the best way to get sg members is to spam invites without seeing someone play. Not to mention I was clearly IN an sg already.

It definitely seems like a skeevy way to recruit. (Note to self - remind the other leaders of our SG never to do that.) We've been known to invite folks after they've teamed with us, depending on how the dynamics of the players works, but if they say no, we say 'thanks' and that's the end of it.

Publicity works both ways - when you team with great players, you tell EVERYONE.

When you team with a**es... you tell EVERYONE.

Remind me never to play on your server then because the populace sounds dreadful.

True, but those aren't everyday occurrences most people have to worry about.

ANY SG that has a weekly prestige requirement. I call BS on that.

My SG is a group of RL friends.

Does getting a non-CoH playing friend addicted count as a bad practice?

I'm one of those who exclusively joins for company. Don't get me wrong, I prefer to get XP while grouping, but if I don't want company - I just solo. If I group, I generally prefer non-farming/powerlevelling missions, as they are Boring. If I can't play, I won't stay.

That SG is long gone. Years gone. As in the name was eventually made generic due to copyright violations, then eventually the founder kicked everyone out and changed servers. Developed a bad reputation on the new server. Then quit the game to go try to be uberlord in another MMO. Proceeded to fail at that... (No happy ending for this account unless i end the sequence there, so i will.)

There are still a few SGs that crow about prestige earnings. Which is fine if you like that sort of thing, but as far as i'm concerned prestige is irrelevant as long as you can afford the base that you want. Not that i ever turn off SG mode. By the time it affects inf earnings i'm selling off drops for thousands of times the difference between being in or out of SG mode.

Yes, and you should be very, very ashamed. So ashamed that you should go chastise yourself with a serving of whatever your favorite treat happens to be.

I have no qualms about calling out when stuff like that happens. A couple years ago some 50 lvl guy was griefing us during Halloween event, knocking at doors at the low end of PI, then running off, so all us 41's were getting killed. I named him in broadcast, more as a warning to the other people down there so they wouldn't get killed by him too. He said it was an accident, then other people were chiming in with their experiences. Pretty soon the whole zone was shaming the guy and he had to leave. Never saw him there again, actually. What began as a really ugly, upsetting situation, turned around to confirm my opinion that the vast majority of people here are really good and decent people.

I hate hearing personal gripes being broadcasted. Back and forth bickering is just childish and I will quit watching the broadcasts till they stop. But calling out when something nasty is happening, and giving others a head's up? I'd consider it a pubic service. I wish you could have named the guy and his sg, so I'd know who to avoid, or to give someone else a head's up if I see the guy doing the same thing somewhere.

Personally, I don't recruit in teams, me being in a team is rare alone, unless I've RPed with the members of the team long enough to be comfortable enough around them to recruit them. I do recruit in Atlas for the Tokusatsu Hero Force, but I don't spam unless posting an SG once every 30 minutes - 1 hour counts as spamming.

Like I said, I actually prefer to RP with someone and ask them once I feel comfortable around them.

Although, what the OP has been through has happened to me once on my Villain, Bondage Shadow. I was Ditched in Grands Ville. -_-; Then the jerk had the nerves to go and send me a tell on Adrian Smith (This was before I disbanded the House of Spiders SG) and ask me to join his SG. I asked him how he got my character's name and he admited to tracing me via my Global handle. I told him no and he threatened to report me for rules violation if I didn't join his SG. I don't know if he ever reported me or not but I know it's nice having a global ignore feature unlike in *insert popular MMO here* where you have to ignore the person on every one of their bloody characters. *insert popular MMO here* has crappy RP servers anyway, mostly eRPers having lesbian dragon bum***, annoys me.

What's worse is that the player in question plays a herding fire tank who has to telegraph directions that they are going to herd to this spot on every single spawn. Not a good player. Not a good person and a piss poor SG.

I've had several friends suckered by this person with team invites, only to boot them when this person discovered they either had a SG or wouldn't join his grind-prestige-or-die SG. Their reputation on Virtue server is beyond bad, and it's only the forum rules that prevents them from being outed.
YEAH Fury sounds like you KNOW who the guy was. He even had a Marco or Key Bind he used constantly.. This is NOT a direct quote but in all capital letters throughout the mission I saw something like this..

Team Leader: I am herding to here

Team Leader: STAY BACK AND DON'T FOLLOW ME!

His herding skill may have improved a bit with time. He didn't seem to be rushing and mainly just got whatever mob was close by gathered in one place for us to attack using AoEs etc.

And yeah about the ONLY reason I did an edit on the text log to keep his identity safe is I have no desire to end up banned from the forums. Anyway he's on global ignore on my account so I don'y have to worry about him bothering any of my characters.. and since I turned off emails except from my friends (local and global) I don't have to ignore a ton of influence selling spammers anymore so he should stay there for a VERY long time. :-D

Wendy, he's been doing that for a while. Here's the experience I related to friends on another forum in 11/09:

Quote:
So he invites me, then invites three more people to fill up the team. We do one mission, which consists of 7 of us following him through the map as he stops in front of us, uses a keybind to yell, "HERDING TO HERE! DO NOT FOLLOW ME! HERDING TO HERE! DO NOT FOLLOW ME! HERDING TO HERE! DO NOT FOLLOW ME!", and then herds Council mobs to his position. It was a little irritating, but not the worst group I've been in. At the end of the mission, he sends me a tell:

Him: Are you interested in joining an "active" SG?
Me: I'm already in an SG with friends, so no.
Me: Thanks, though.
Him: That's unfortunate.

Then he kicks me from the team! Not only that, but as I pop out of the mission door, three more team members (including my friend) pop out behind me. I said in local, "He just kicked me for not joining his SG," and all three said, "Me too." I sent him a tell asking if he really kicked me from team for not joining his SG, and he didn't respond.
I guess nothing has changed.

Lots of alts, mostly on Virtue

Back in '04 (on Justice), I had to create a solo SG named "I don't wanna join your SG" since blindly SG-Inviting was the norm and I hated unannounced pop-ups.

Yeah I know. But they had some of the worst recruiting practices on Champion at the time. Think back, how many time did you create a new alt and immediately get hit with TELLS, blind invites and broadcast spam from this SG. I remember logging into Champion and seeing 4 different people spamming in Atlas at the same time from the same group. LOL.

So is that why you were so interested in the 88s being on virtue?

Nah. I actually doubt they're in the top 10 even, largely because they get such high turnover. However, there are a few SGs that could use a bit of friendly tweak. I didn't think of the SG mentioned in the OP with any relation to the 88s.

Yep, been there, done that. Maybe there should be a badge for this.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Occasionally an unknown hero invites folks to an SG that has bad practices.

You get idiots everywhere you go and playing with unknown heroes can bring you grief - stick with the friends you know.

I see what you did there :P

I had a little encounter with this same guy last year. I was inside my SG's base at the time and I ended up getting a tell from him asking if I was interested in joining his SG. I facepalmed and wondered how someone like that has the brainpower to even turn on a computer to play this game.

Because you are a nice person Philly and you did help me, LaVerys and Zephyr out a couple of times in Pass with the AF.

You no how to run an SG and Lead them, Sometime people like the one our Forum Thread Host talk about are either greedy for Prestige, do anything to get SG Member into there SG just so they can use them for Prestige.

Maybe they are disparate and there Sg to Stay Active.

Then again they might just be plane Jerky, Bipolar Crazy People, Who believe they are great people and Say Hey i don't no this person So I mess with them when ever I want and get alway with it.

I no Alot about Mess Up SG Recruiters and I Understand it can be a pain, but it's part of the game and sometime we got to live with these people, if they get out of control, put them on Global Ignore.

It's kind of fun meeting new people and It's not a healthy way to Socialize with people, if they drive you nuts, Global ignore them, right click go to Add Notes and write down never will team with them again and Don't bother teaming again.

In Life you going gets up's and downs and not everyone is a good persons, but there might be that one person you are teaming with, that Person might turn out to be your new Best friend, you never going to no unless you get yourself out there and meet them.

"Unfortunate," huh? I wonder if it was the same guy that tried to recruit me, and used that word to describe how I was wasting my talent by choosing to look for an RPSG instead of joining his. He then proceeded to talk in infuriating circles while professing that doing so was a good thing, and didn't seem to understand why I was becoming more and more hostile to him... or at least, that's what he SAID.
