  1. I'll be respeccing all the characters I can, as time permits, once this comes out. To some extent I've actually felt less compelled to play until it does, to be honest.
  2. Personally, Id rather the effort had gone into expansions instead of booster packs.
  3. It would be more interesting to see alternative dialogues take place, but allow you to carry on, should you choose not to fight an EB.

"Oh you decided to make a deal with Lord Recluse of the future, rather than defeat him? Well that makes today's Lord Recluse happy. We'll let you live. Now go fight Dr. Aeon...."

"You wimped out and ran from Dr. Aeon? Seriously? You know he often cuts out early. Okay, now go fight some Hellions...."

"You chose not to fight 3K Kelvin? What? Go back there you big baby! No? Okay fine...."

To be clear, I am not saying the game needs even tougher challenges than we do now. But more above-average challenges available, as this game probably has a high percentage of those types of players who would like something different and more interesting.

Just creating more missions, more minions, LT's, bosses etc, more TF's isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about, what is created, be more intelligent. A TF that's more involved and interesting. Missions that have more parts or requirements. Stuff like that. Not merely more EB's in missions, harder-to-kill AV's, etc.

That sort of thing might very well be in the works, with the two new TF's and missions coming up in I19. Time will tell.

    1. Do you favour the idea of being able to solo EBs/AVs/GMs, if so/not, why?
I feel most EB's should be soloable, but with significant effort, and some AT's and powerset combos obviously fare better than others. AV's and GM's should be out of reach for most builds in less-than-advanced hands.

    2. Have you ever soloed an EB/AV/GM, and if so how did you feel afterward?
I've solo'd EB's with some of my weakest characters, and I've had a few of my middle-of-the-roaders solo literally every EB in every mission I could get them in. But I spent time arranging a good gameplan, used plenty of the right kind of inspirations, and put together steady attack chains (if not very optimal ones) to do so. Before AV's and GM's got their last big boost I solo'd quote a few AV's with one of my Scrappers, but I just didn't put much effort into it, and I didn't have any true elite AV-solo-centric characters. After that last boost (maybe 1-2 years ago, can't recall) the AV's and GM's basically became too much for any of my characters, and I've never put forth the effort to make any on that level.

    3. Do you think the dynamic will change after the implementation of the Incarnate system?
It might for AV's and GM's possibly. Hopefully not for EB's. I think the challenge level for them is just fine, really.

    4. Whatever else you wish to add.
I think the elite players who make the most of their characters now, and take them to the next level after the Incarnate system, might want some more challenges that are less trivial than what the majority of the game offers for them. I'm not sure what those challenges might be, but those will be harder for your average player. I don't have a problem with that right now. I think, given the age of the game, and the ratio of highly skilled and experienced gamers, we probably need such content. Most-likely new missions with more intelligent design, tougher custom bosses, EB's, and other types of challenges beyond conventional AI.

I'm one of those who exclusively joins for company. Don't get me wrong, I prefer to get XP while grouping, but if I don't want company - I just solo. If I group, I generally prefer non-farming/powerlevelling missions, as they are Boring. If I can't play, I won't stay.

To be fair, Tough adds significant extra survivability for a fire tanker. Debating it's "need' level is a matter of semantics.

    Bugged Bodyguard

I don't rely on BG mode often, but I do notice there's a delay between being attacked and when my pets start attacking. Particularly on my Traps and FF MM where it often takes a little time to even be hit by a foe, much less waiting for all my pets to swing into action.

So that's really why I'm not in BG mode often. I'm almost always telling my pets to attack, and I am always working out which target is next, or firing off an attack to get one of the mobs on me, or knocked down, or whatever the effect I might be looking for. Or buffing/healing, or whatever. I just don't find BG mode that worthwhile, and I don't focus on tankerminding. Just me, personally.
  9. I specced into it for a time. I don't believe Dom has an effect on it, though the confusion effect still stacks on top of the other powers like SoC and Con/MC.
  10. Rooftop_Raider

    Laying an egg.

I don't mind the horse stance - I don't think the dual punch is an effective use of that stance. I also think it's overused, and only one set should have that anyhow.
  11. I've tried Zloth's demo launcher, as well as just creating a shortcut and dropping the demo on it (how we used to do it before Zloth's). Unfortunately there is no sound.

I personally require the sounds with my demos, so this is a big issue for me at least.

I've literally ran out of ideas on this issue, and I'm not going to roll back to XP if that turns out to be the issue (which I don't understand why, as the game works just fine with sound).
  12. And your effort is appreciated, Rachel. Thank you!
  13. I agree with LL. I'd like to see smarter ambushes instead of the elimination of them. I'd like to see more varied bosses and EB/AV's/Heroes, and I'd like to see older missions and arcs revamped even more.

    Rant about Caves

I like caves well enough, but the only room I hate in them is the multi-tier one that's usually the final room. People tend to fall down levels all the time there, and it's hard to find mobs sometime. I usually start working towards the bottom, and then work my way back up, and to the top.
  15. "Cloudy skies for the future of the product"

Sounds like a bad thread idea.
  16. Several DM/DA Scrappers (one after the other over the years), though to be fair I feel DA is much better on Tankers, and all my characters gave way to a DA/DM Tanker than I created in the wake of all the deleted Scrappers.
  17. I used to record demos for every EB I fought on all my solo characters, or when I took part in superteams, or for other reasons, and I created a huge catalog of demos, and from time to time I'd sit back and watch them. A few times I put together collage videos, or to demonstrate something, and post it on my Youtube channel.

Recently I started doing that again, only I ended up without sound for any demos. I created an appropriate thread about it in the Troubleshooting forums...

    No sound in demo playback

...and I'm still awaiting feedback on it, but it seems like the demo/video community we used to have is practically gone. Surely we have others who do this sort of thing. I know of "samuraiko" on Youtube, is one of our posters. But I hope we see more players get involved with this. Does anyone else use demos for any reason, or is it pretty much passe at this point?
  18. Use FRAPS to take the screenshot, incidentally.
  19. Maybe this post should be moved to the PvP forum, but unfortunately that won't do anything about the real issue of the state of this game's PvP.

    a) If effort was put into PvP again, how do we know it'll be for the better?

    b) If it is for the better, will it be enough to make PvP popular again (or at least, as popular as it has been in the past, if not really popular)?

    c) If it ends up being even worse, why put the effort into it in the first place?

We have no basis for confidence that it'll be improved, and if so, if that will have a significant impact on the game.
  20. I've turned the sound, in-game, down to "Compatability" mode.

I've used the -demoplay shortcut to drop demos on top of, to play them back.

I'm using the same computer (hardware is unchanged from two years ago) that I used before, and I was able to record and play back hundreds if not thousands of demos.

I've tried an old demo which worked just fine in the past.

I'm now running the program from directly within the City of Heroes folder, under Programs Files.

I am using the one and only Administrator account on the computer. Win 7 Home Premium.

    I've disabled Aero permanently.

I'm running out of ideas and options, and I'm loathe to install new or older versions of drivers which have worked just fine for me so far. I have no problem playing sounds in the game.

Surely _someone_ else has had this problem before. Am I just not asking in the right forums?

My implication, which you missed, was that if you NEED IOs to be effective in Praetoria then there is where the disconnect is between people who are "doing fine" and people who struggled (like myself). The responder about my question posted a litany about how to earn money on the Market that, quite frankly, turned my stomach. Thus the response you're responding to.
Your additional comments, and the response above, help to fill out the implications, so my apologies for jumping on you. And yes, I am an experienced Stalker (actually every AT but the blue and red epic AT's) I have considerable experience with, and in my opinion, Stalkers are among the best solo AT's in the game. And especially at the lowest levels of the game, their very AT design stands out more than the others, than they do in the later part of the game, when all sets get more powers and some fringe combinations in each AT tend to dominate within AT boundaries, and excel beyond them.

I just feel that, regardless of financial situation (deliberately avoiding the market and making unwise buying/selling decisions, to IO crafting and skilled profiteering), Stalkers will certainly hold their own at the lower levels. Really in Praetoria our biggest concerns are against ambushes that are targeted on us, and escort missions that compromise our stealth. And modestly skilled players can work around that just fine.

To put what I am saying into further context. I went on hiatus in 2009 and only came back after I17, because GR was coming out. And I have no characters littered with IO's and set bonuses, and I really only recently started using the market in any way. With the exception of 3 characters, all others use either standard enhancements (TO/DO/SO) or the common IO's. The three that don't are littered with more HO's than I care to admit.

IO's are not required to make characters that can handle the in-game content just fine. Though characters with optimal powerset combos on the right AT's with the best inventions and bonuses, combined with experience and solid gameplans can make the game seem trivial.

It's just a better use of resources than throwing a ton of it into PvP and making it as unpalatable as it is now. You can selectively-quote for some sense of satisfaction, and in lieu of making any significant point - it won't change anything. PvP in this game sucks in it's current incarnation, and this game would have been better off putting it's resources elsewhere, than to have it in it's current state.

Now, would I approve of PvP in some form in this game, over no PvP at all? Yes. But it has to make sense. It doesn't now, and there's no reason to play it. But the truth is this game wasn't designed from the ground up as a PvP-influenced game. It was bred into it, and then torn up.

PvP was more fun before I13, and it was still in bad shape then. It just got worse, in spite of the effort spent towards "improving" it. I do think that this game would have been better served for PvP not to happen at all, then to go through all the sweeping changes it's gone though. But I think a minimalist approach to evolving and improving PvP would have been the best option, all told.
  23. I spent a little time at 1280x720, the lowest resolution I could set my system to, and adjusted the UI to where I could find it moderately acceptable for a smaller screen (identical in size to the screenshot above) and it would really only have use for some solo play or marketeering. I'd much rather play with a netbook and a mouse for any significant period of time, a game like this.
  24. That would be quite serviceable with some time spent adjusting the UI for that size, but I would not want to spend dedicated periods of time playing the game that way.
