Missions designed to send you to the hospital?
I run this mish all the time and it's one of my favourites. I run it between x1 and x6 difficulty depending on the character. The ambushes make things fun for me. I run it on an AR blaster, a traps/AR fender, a DA scrapper, an SR brute, a fire/dark ruptor, a plants troller, whatever I got, and I don't have an issue. It may be that you need to turn your diff down, or use insps more, or whatever, but the mish is far from unbeatable.
I tried that mish 4-5 times with my DB/DA scrapper, I usually run at +2x6, bosses no AV solo. first time I tried this mish, the room was completely filled with malta. Tried turning settings down, even at +0x1 no bosses no av STILL got wiped in no time. since then, every time that tip drops I delete or wait till the 3 day complete comes round
Yeah, it gets pretty crazy when you run it solo at x8.
The villain mission with the 5x Miss Thystles can also get pretty intense.
With the rate at which the sappers were sapping my endurance I could do nothing. All my toggles were down and I could barely attack. And this is with the diff turned down and sucking down blue insp till I had no more to use. I really don't think that the sappers ever missed with the sapping.
There was a long discussion of this mission in the Tech forum. There seems to be a great deal of variation in how hard players find this mission to be. It's not clear whether some sets/ATs just have it easier, or whether some players get hit with larger spawns.
My dark/mace tank was able to survive it, mostly due to Dark Regen and the end drain resist DA gets. It was tough, though, and I came much closer to face-planting than usual when soloing one of my tanks.

I've done this mission a few times on my Khelds and SoAs. It's difficult but nothing like what some people have been reporting.
If I recall correctly the ambushes aren't on such short timers that they frequently end up stacking on top of one another. Then again it may have been that I was just killing things fast enough to not encounter a problem (I usually play on +1/x2).
As far as spawn composition, Malta's Malta. Sappers and Engineers are just facts of life. Of course they're much easier to deal with if you've got some form of control (Holds and Confuse are particularly useful). But even lacking these tools I didn't find the mission's level of challenge to overreach into frustratingly difficult territory.

Corners, line of sight, and AoEs are your friend on this mission. Once I knew what to expect, I don't often run into trouble with this mission regardless of my character.

Watched it and I can guarantee that the timing of my ambushes was nothing like what is in that video. There was at least 2 times where 2 ambushes showed up at the same time for me (the speech bubbles of the ambushers both appeared at the same time). I remember the second ambush appeared before I could hit the first sapper once, the third one appeared before I took out that same sapper. Before I'd taken out the first group the room was practically full of Malta.

I usually just skip anything involving malta XD

Yeah... that mission.
First time I ran it, Frosty died in seconds, followed by me - seeing something like this come in almost all at once:
Since then, I've made sure to drop my difficulty down to x1 for it. >.<
Is there any AT that solo can withstand 10 sappers along with 10 turrets (that are extremely difficult to defeat) and 10 engineers all at one go?

And, to answer your specific question, I find it easiest on an AT with holds. It was a snap on a dominator. I imagine a controller would be similar. Most tanks can handle it. An electric tank can laugh at them and go AFK. The sappers will hardly move your END bar at all.

It's all about tactics. If you're on a weak toon the first time you run this, you'll probably die. After that, you know what to expect.

Since then I have dismissed that mission twice.. Tessa is designed to be a soloist that is very team friendly.. she has taken out Elite Bosses solo so if a group of minons manage to defeat her... no way I EVER want to do that mission again. Does that help clarify the level of difficulty? Face facts there are some players that have spent ??? hundreds of millions (or billions) on purples and can solo GMs, AVs, and even Rikti Pylons. They live for challenges like this and I would venture to bet about half the people that say they enjoy the challenge of THIS mission are using those sort of characters. As for the rest of use.. It's another example of the new attitude that we are now playing City of Ambush. I probably wouldn't have minded and more than likely would have survived if I got one 2-3 man ambush at a time with at least a little time between to regroup.. but I KNOW at least 4 or 5 ambushes arived one after the other and by the time I'd taken out the first sapper I saw I had 4 more draining me dry. That's not FUN.. it's a major pain in the ...

It's Malta, I was already expecting a trip to the hospital anyway. *shrugs*
They were nicely grouped on the return trip for a nova.
I have run this one several times on my 50 elec/ea stalker set to x6 without any problems. I actually enjoy the mad rush of all the ambushes.
I can see where some would have problems with it, but I find this kind of mission to be a lot of fun. All too much of the content in this game is very easy and I look forward to challenges like this.
... when was the last time Malta played fair?

definitely one of the harder tip missions but certainly not impossible though will depend on your settings and what archetype you are playing.
I have beat it at +0/+8 on my broadsword / shield scrapper though I had to do a lot more running around corners than usual. another good trick is to run for the entrance door. this allows you to both recover health and endurance and some of the mobs will return to their spawn point. then you can re-enter and split up the groups a bit and work your way through them.
that said, I also face-planted pretty quick the first time I ran this mission. too used to being able to just stand in the middle of things and fight my way through it. was actually a challenge to beat without a trip to the hospital
It's gotta be a problem with how ambushes work. They've been getting out of hand as of late.
On a new alt I made when GR went live I was able to call the starting contact in Atlas, so I called him and got my next mission, Hunt 5 Clockwork.
Ok, I close the window and figure since I'm already on a roof in the warehouse district of Atlas, I'll find them quick.
I'm then ambushed by 13 Clockwork! I was lucky that a lvl40 Defender was flying by and healed me as I fought for my life. They were all even con Minions and Lts, but for a Hunt 5? Why would I be ambushed by thirteen of them suckers?
I wasn't running around grabbing aggro, I was alone on a rooftop after taking down a few Hellions since I was close to leveling. It didn't level me, but it was close so that's why I called for the next mission.

This tip mish is one of my favorites. Why? Because it's hard. Way too much of this game is too easy.
If I'm looking to speed through tippies, I set to -1 and grind through five of them in fifteen minutes or so. If I'm looking to have some fun, I put the settings up and get to work. I know it sounds weird, but in many ways, deaths mean fun. If you CAN fail, it makes victory all the sweeter.
Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
@vanda1 and @nakoa2
I just did a tip mission and I'm going to say flat out that I am extremely pissed off right now, but I will try to control myself long enough to ask a question.
I just did the tip "Malta Action Figure" as a hero and solo. This is a level 40 -50 tip. This is the first time I've encountered it.
I walk in and the map is empty, I have to talk to the base commander. I make my way all the way in and talk to him.
Next thing I know there is wave after wave of ambushes. Every ambush consists of a engineer that calls a turret and a sapper. There was what seemed to be at least 10 of them, but to be honest I lost count. There was no more then 15 seconds in between each ambush but I'd be willing to bet that it was less.
WTF!
Have they designed missions specifically to send you to the hospital numerous times?
