Quote:Truth be told, the closest modern parallel to the Musketeers is The Secret Service. They were a private company assigned directly to the Royal Family, or (which is the impetus for the novel to begin with) Cardinal Richelieu, who made his own cadre of Musketeers to tacitly challenge the power of the crown.Just want to clarify it wasn't the whole Musketeer corps that were the secret service stile guys, just the 3 and D'artanion were the best of the best of the best.
I haven't seen the this film (although I likely will) but if they are portrayed as Secret-Service-Style fighters, then it's one of the few film adaptations to get it right, according to Dumas and history. -
Quote:It seemed to me like the drop rate got cut in half about three weeks ago. Last week seemed just like the few before it, much lower than it was in early August, but about like it was the week before. (But, I did get two Panacea procs last week, so I'm not really complaining.)Hey all,
Not sure if this should be posted here or on the Dev's bugs section, but while I've received some comments in game that support this I haven't found anything on the boards and NC support is claiming they can't answer this issue and I should post or search on the boards.
OK, since the last patch I have noticed an extreme change in drop rates. On average, with killing one enemy repeatedly in an 8 hour time frame, the drop rate was an average of 3. I've noticed now the drop rate seems to be somewhere around 1 per 32 hours or more. Anyone else experience this or know of any recent (as in last week) announcements to drop rate?
Thanks. -
Quote:I've been having trouble for a while now, but for some reason, the old launcher was working so I just used that for a couple weeks. Now, THAT quit on me. I tried the fix above and it worked... so far.I found this link:
https://help.ncsoft.com/app/answers/...oft%20launcher
on the support page. I followed its steps and it worked. So far Launcher is working. -
I enjoy my Gravity bubbler very much. The two defining powers for me are Singularity and Wormhole, for much the same reasons as mentioned above. Here's what I like most about playing this toon:
He's at the ranged defense softcap. I cast Singularity and turn on Force Bubble. I start blasting Propel/Lift/Epic Power Blast with Gravity Distortion. I maneuver just enough to keep mobs under control, and use Wormhole and Gravity Distortion to move and hold mobs in place. NOTHING touches me. Melee is a total non-issue. An occasional ranged attack will plug me, but it's infrequent enough that it doesn't slow me at all. I can solo whole maps like this.
It's not a farming build and he doesn't kill lots of things quickly, but it's both solo and team friendly if you know how to use Wormhole well. -

Agreed.
Slot it for Damage. I usually go 4 Kinetic Combat and then the other two slots with procs or pair something for bonuses. It's a great attack. My DM/SR scrapper has a ton of recharge and his attack chain consists of Midnight Grasp>Siphon Life>Repeat, or do other stuff if I get bored with mowing down stuff so quickly. -
In my -albeit limited and uninformed- opinion, I think going to free-to-play is a foregone conclusion. We ARE going free-to-play. It IS going to happen. When, not if, should be our main concern. I think this because of three main reasons:
1) Old MMOs go in this direction and if we are anything, we are old.
2) COX is already quasi-free-to-play as it is with all the booster goodies. It seems to work out pretty well with this community. Look at how geeked we are over the Steampunk stuff.
3) I am speculating that free-to-play will gradually become how all MMOs are made from the get-go. Word is the new Marvel game will be free-to-play from launch. I see a future where communities of gamers are not "owned" by a game because that's where their money is, but rather play in multiple games as a community.
Just my thoughts. -
At first I didn't realize there was both an entrance and an exit to the train. I stood there at the exit waiting for the train to come and it never did.
-
To be honest, I'm speculating that free-to-play will be the general model for MMOs in the near future. I envision groups of players who own several different games and jump from game to game together, as players, as gaming communities.
I have no knowledge to this effect, but I'd guess it won't be long before we are free-to-play here on CoH, and I don't necessarily see this as d00m, but merely changing to fit a new paradigm. -
I was kinda meh, on the whole concept until I saw the trailer. Now, I must have.
-
My new plan with 50s is this:
1) Get Alpha to T3.
2) Open the other incarnate slots.
3) Get Destiny and Lore to T3.
4) If I have a Very Rare, I'll get whatever slot would matter most on that particular toon to T4.
5) Move on.
I figure the T4s are long-term. If they happen, great, if not, that's cool because that toon has everything it NEEDS. -
I still think bubblers have their place. The incarnate buffs are too short-lived to be totally game-changing. A good bubbler who keeps his teammates bubbled is still worth what he was before, as is the icer.

Quote:Really!? Aren't we just blowing it a little out of proportion? My main global is @vanda1. Take it away and I become @NA_vanda1 or @vandaI or @vandal1 or @Nakoa1, am I a different person suddenly? How long is it going to take the people that know me to figure out that my name has slightly changed?Your global name is who you ARE. If you're even relatively well known/liked in the game, and someone changed your name, you'd be nobody. A new face, until people eventually realized "you" were "you".
It's kind of like getting drastic cosmetic surgery forced on you in real life. Nobody would recognize you any more.
So, now people who have lost their globals, are "nobodies"? That's a pretty horrible thing to say. I am going to proceed under the assumption that all those people are still the wonderful people they were before their name changed. You can go on and think of them as less than they were before, I will not. -
I'm not trying to offend anyone here, so please forgive my query:
Am I the only one that thinks it's silly and overly self-indulgent to bemoan the loss (or alteration, or "mangling") of one's global name?
What's the big deal? It's a name. It's changeable.
I can't figure this out. If I suddenly lost either of my globals -especially when such a loss came hand-in-hand with a substantial increase in game accessibility like a ton more servers I could access- I'd pause for about a second and then enjoy the gift I was given. Seems to me that there are many many more relevant things to complain about in this game. -
Quote:Go to matinees two weeks after the movie releases. It's blessed.I'll probably just wait for Thor to become available on Netflix. The last film I saw in a movie theater was Star Trek, back in May 2009. I just can't see paying $20 to watch a film in a movie theater and endure people yapping on their cell phone / adding their own commentary track to the film / playing games on their cell phone for two hours anymore.
I'm a teacher that often gets free tickets and snacks for my former students who manage the theater, but only at slow times. So, I get out of work at 2:30, I head to the theater, eat some free popcorn and watch in relative peace. -
Quote:I agree. He was AWESOME. The rest of the performances were fine and the movie was very enjoyable, but Loki stole the show, as far as I am concerned. I've been somewhat lukewarm on The Avengers movie, thinking that they are biting of way more than they can chew. How can you possibly make any of those characters interesting in such short screen time? But, hearing that Hiddleston will be reprising his role as Loki and will be the main villain, gives me room to hope for great things.Loki made the movie for me. Tom's performance was awesome, and it was really refreshing to see Loki portrayed as a damaged and lost child who competes for his father's love and acceptance, rather than your average, cookie-cutter "I-am-going-to-destroy-the-world" supervillain.
Did you guys catch the sign at the end of the street in the town?: "Home of the Vikings" -
I assume you've read Good Omens by Gaiman AND Pratchett. The discussion has to start there. American Gods is one of my favorites, as well.

I don't believe it. There may be a random component to the metric, but there is clearly something else at work.
My fire/stone tank did roughly 150 trials and got one Very Rare and eight Rares. No thread table.
My elec/kin troller has done 18 trials and has got one Very Rare and fifteen Rares. No thread table.
I suppose it could be random, but I'm not seeing anything random about it. -
Why aren't you selling this on the market? These aren't really that expensive, are they? If I remember correctly, this one is the cheapest of the set.

Quote:I think the drone is more useful than the bombs, especially when I need a target other than me to take the alpha attack or a spate of mezzes, so it kinda does function as a shield. And, while it doesn't last long, it recharges pretty quickly.Does the drone ultimately do enough dpe including defiance buffing to warrant the cast time and endurance cost? If not can the drone be used to take mezzes and damage for you? Effectively doubling up as a shield.
It would be nice to decrease to the set time, and maybe give it some more HP, but I find a way to use it all the time. -
Gun Drone isn't great, but I always seem to find a use for it, most often when soloing, but occasionally when teaming. The players I usually roll with move very quickly and so if I kneel down to cast Gun Drone (or bombs), by the time I'm standing up again, I'm all alone in a hallway with fading corpses. It is handy in boss battles for the extra damage. Soloing, I think I use it most to take the alpha from a mob, watch it go boom and then finish them off.
