Missions designed to send you to the hospital?
Can't wait to play this on my ds/dk.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I think I might have died once out of the dozen or so times I've run this tip mission. I've run it with a Widow, a DP/Elec Blaster, and a Fire/Shield Scrapper. All of which have IO set builds, but none of which have any purples or anything out of the range of availabilty for a semicasual player (I would be a hardcore min/maxer, but I really don't have the time to devote to it, getting maybe 20 hours a week to play the game, and that's on a good week, average is probably around 10 hours a week). I think I also ran it on a fire/kin Corruptor. She doesn't have an IO set build, and is using just regular IOs in most of her powers. I don't remember having any difficulties with it on her though.
Malta is a challenging group if you don't take them on with their abilities in mind. I always take out the Sappers first (One of my macros on my tray is to target Sappers and other problem mobs), then I take out the turrets (since they have a higher to-hit being pets), then it's just a matter of cleaning up the rest of them. *shrug* I liked the mission, it was a welcome challenge compared to the cakewalk that is most of the other content. The first time I ran it on my fire/shield, I was set for +1/x6, and it was the most fun I've had on that character since they got rid of the All-Lieut factions in AE.

Frankly, ambush waves in most of the missions could stand to come at a quicker pace. Most times, it's like they're not even there, even solo. Send em in two or three groups at a time. It would make more sense than waiting for the entire group to be defeated before the next one comes.
Maybe not at this mission's extreme, but there's room for improvement. With the way people can build characters now, stepping up general difficulty isn't a bad thing.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
I just survived this one on my Peacebringer (level 44, Human/Squid build). Even at -1 it was a challenge, and I probably would not have made it had it been even con. I made sure I hooked up with Frosty first before talking to the Commander, and he was very instrumental in the success of the mission.
I managed to get through probably the first two or 3 waves in Human form, and then finally had to pop Light Form for the remainder of the battle. The sappers were the most annoying part of the mission, way too many of them hitting from all sides. At least I did make it through without even losing Frostfire, and Light Form lasted until about 5 seconds after I exited the mission.
All in all, it was pretty fun, though I do agree that it could stand to be toned down just a tad, perhaps to where it would be survivable for a squishy on +0?
Speaking of missions designed to send you to the hospital, the first time I did Darrin Wade's arc I got completely pwned by all that living armor in the midnighter's club that gets mad at you (I think it's the last mission for him).
I was playing a mastermind, I can't remember for sure but I don't think I even had any pets out lol.

I always saw them as the "Time's up, run like hell" buzzer myself. But it's an awesome way to do it!
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

My Night Widow just danced her way out while they whiffed away uselessly.
My Earth Domi knew better and took the Self Destruct Taxi home instead.
I ran this mission on my slightly IO'd Claw/DA Scrapper and got my butt handed to me several times before finally squeaking by it. Later the same day I ran into it with my Emp/Dark Defender which is only SO's and, while it was a bit touch and go, I didn't die at all. Regen and Recovery Auras combined with a fast recharge on HA did the trick.
Ran into this one on a Tanker Tuesday. BOY did it hurt.
The one I try to avoid is "You're a Cruel One Mr. Phipps."
With all the defense debuff and psi from Arachnos, I have to run it even con x1 or I just get thwacked, on a tank that's well ABOVE defense cap. Actually made the mistake of running this for a TT on Protector a while back. Bad move. Death fest!
The one that really clued me into how tough these missions are was the "Debutante" one with all the carnies.
I was able to finish off groups at +2x8, but I was stopping and huffing (like pre-stamina lowbie stopping and huffing) after every group. Took FOREVER to get through.
Have they designed missions specifically to send you to the hospital numerous times?
Is there any AT that solo can withstand 10 sappers along with 10 turrets (that are extremely difficult to defeat) and 10 engineers all at one go?
What the 4311 where they thinking?
Every AT/powerset in this game has an enemy type against which they do the worst at. It's basically the closest thing this game has to the concept of "Kryptonite". There are some situations a Controller finds trivial that a Scrapper completely falters at. There are other things a Tank or Brute can do a Blaster would never dream of.
Basically this mission, for you, was your Kryptonite. Most people react as you do and automatically assume the game is at fault. It's hard to accept that even if you can breeze through 99% of the game the other 1% is MEANT to be hard. That 1% is hard to keep you on your toes and make things challenging. If you think about it this game would become fairly boring fairly quickly if you could do 100% of the content with your eyes closed wouldn't it?
So step back, dust yourself off, change your tactics and you'll figure it out.
Good luck to you.
