Activision to sell game cut-scene movies

Like the title says

Not sure what exactly he means. If he means just the stuff from the game minus the game, I think he may have officially lost his frelling mind.

I dunno, MB. If the company that produced the trailers for SWTOR were to create a feature length movie of those trailers and add in content to bridge them all together... I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Sounds different from what he's talking about, at least from what I got on that first readthrough.

And even at SWTOR quality, I wouldn't drop $20-$30 on it. I rarely drop $20 on a normal movie. (Admittedly, no Blu-Ray here, which tends to be more expensive, but still.)

I'd buy that in a second. But it sounds like Activision's just going to lift the cutscenes from their games and sell those as they are, no added filler to bridge the scenes together. And that is quite stupid.

Goodbye, I guess.

Couldn't you just find most of those cutscenes on YouTube and get them from there? o.O

A cut-scene movie sounds like my own private hell. I'd be banging away at the spacebar, screaming "When will they end???"

With the right software, you could probably do it yourself if you owned the game. (I snagged them from a few just using Bink to view them. Including some from the original Diablo that aren't used in game - like the Butcher's chamber.)

See, if it was something *extra* that you can't get by playing the game, it *almost* makes sense....that price point for a DL is just nuts though.

Price point is too high, but for people like me who can't get to grips with RTS games, it's kinda interesting.

Get that down to $10-$15 and we're talking.

See, he's banking on people that are already his customers. But if someone's not a fan of RTS in general, (and therefore less likely to be a Blizzard customer) would they care about the (pretty pedestrian) plot of an RTS?

Granted, I imagine he's counting WoW numbers in there...still seems a very small market unless you're offering *new* content.

I would pay if they did it right for some games... like Halo. I love what I know about Halo's universe, but I'm not a big FPS fan so I'm likely to never see the story.

The problem here is not the concept... it's the price and the brands they have to work with.

Xenosaga has already done that. Although since there is only 5% gameplay and 95% cutscenes, then it worked quite well.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

I'd agree with this. I actually really like game cutscenes, and some good ones strung together into a couple of hours is something I'd probably pick up. SWtOR had great stuff, BloodRayne had some damn nice cutscenes too, The Secret World teasers, plenty of games do excellent work. But not for $30, that's friggin' nuts.

Well, I remember when the collectors version of Diablo II came out with the cut scene movies on DVD.

Intel is coming up with an odd idea for their future low end Socket 1156 Pentium G6951. Sell unlock code/program that will bump the L3 cache from 3 to 4MB and enable hyperthreading, turning it essentially into a Core "i3-520" if one existed.

I'm guessing they are going to sell the G6951 really cheap to compete with the less expensive AMD dual and tri cores. Currently the price difference between the 2.8GHz G6950 and the cheapest Core i3, the 2.93GHz i3-530 is only $25.

Edit: It's really targeting the consumer, upgrade your CPU without cracking open the box. Reminds me of the upgrading your version of Windows 7 by purchasing a code.

And if the "upgrade" sounds underwhelming, games see a big boost by upgrading the L3 cache, 15-20%.

I could see paying that kind of cash for a feature length SWTOR movie, as in, 90 mins of storytelling, sure. Anything short of that, wouldn't IMO be worth 20-30 bucks. Heck, i've gotten whole seasons of TV shows i like, on sale, for like 20 bucks. But Starwars has a special place in my heart, and i'm an epic fan of the KoToR world, so yeah... i'd splearg. Anything else? Prolly not.

I can think of games that I wouldn't mind seeing cut-scene movies from but like others I wouldn't be $20-$30 for them.

It's an interesting idea, but I'm on the "price point is too high" boat. And I don't even like boats. Also, they'd have to pick an choose the games to make sure the plot isn't all broken up for people who don't see the game in between the cutscenes. At least, if they're targeting people who haven't played the games, but are interested in the plot. If they're just targeting people who've played a game and would like to re-view all the cutscenes at their convenience without playing through again, it seems like they're asking $20-$30 for what should be a feature in the game.

That said, this could start a trend of what might be "professional machinima", a game's developers producing and selling short movies using their game's resources. I, for one, wouldn't mind the next Transformers movie being made entirely with War for Cybertron's art assets, engine, and cast.

But I'm just pulling that out of my nose. We'll have to wait and see.

Fan made > Activi$ion ******** any day

this type of stupid $$ making scheme is typical of that retard Bobby Kodick after seeing the success of fanmade machinma and lets plays.

I'd love to see him try to sue artists so no fan made creations are allow to be made from Activisions' games video clips/images, and you can only "buy" them from his company.

While I don't like him, I'd hardly call him a retard. In fact, this looks like a pretty sensible decision. Activision aren't going to have to put much money into it, and I'm pretty sure some people will buy it, so they profit. And given that that is the entire point of a company, how is this stupid?
