What Music do you Listen to when you play?

I figured just for a bito fun I'd ask what people listen to when they play... do you have a spesific band/group/singer or a certain selection of bands/groups/singers, is it just a genre, do you just hit shuffle and let it play? do you listen to music while play ever?

For me personally I love to crank some Classic rock or Metal when in a heavy battle ^_^

None for me!
My in-game music is turned to 0 volume and my sound effects and such are at 100% volume.

I'm somewhat of an immersion junkie, that's what I enjoy. Always been that way, hehe.
Maybe some day I should try playing a character that listens to music in ear buds all the time or something.

Generally, nothing. For the first four years or so that I played the game, I was working 10-hour shifts in a very, very noisy convenience store. When I got home, I didn't want any more noise than was necessary, so I rarely listened to music while playing games.

Besides, the in-game sounds are useful. As much as some people insist that they don't need them, any time I team with a friend who has sound disabled, they take twice as long to find glowies as I do. (And they always miss that one guy who's shooting me from behind with a machine gun, since they can't hear the gunshots.)

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

This is what I do. Background music is immersion breaking for me. Even in some movies the background music can be annoying.

I have a playlist labeled 'Fight music'

It's mostly certain rock songs and fight music i've aquired from other games. Makes things more enjoyable when a epic fight song comes on during a AV/GM fight

I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...

Agree 100%

I just returned to semi-regular play after a near one year absence and was amazed at how much I had missed the audio experience of in-game soundscape.

Depends.

When I'm just soloing, I have a favorites playlist that runs, including things like Bach, Metallica, The Who, Kamelot, Styx, Dream Theater, Billy Joel, Iron Maiden, Journey, Disturbed, and Boston.

If I'm teaming I generally turn the music off so I don't get distracted.

When I'm RPing, I definitely turn the music off unless I'm playing Lux Machina, a PB inside a fiber-optic computer who is listening to the same stuff I would be.

I don't listen to music when I'm playing. Like my man up top said, it's all about immersion for me. I like to hear every bang, every smack, every blast, every crash. Makes me feel more into it. Plus I need to hear the glowies and the chat alerts.

I'm with the rest of the crew when it comes to immersion.

On top of that I need the in-game sounds as audible warnings.
I mostly solo blasters and I need to hear when that Freak Tank rezzes behind me. Or when that Tsoo Sorc teleports etc etc.
Not to mention glowies. (Which isn't an issue anymore)

The only time I've listened to outside music while playing was years ago when I ran a Cape radio sponsored Synapse speed run.

Pretty much since I started playing back in Issue 2, I've almost always played with in-game music and sound effects at zero, and whatever music I feel like listening to playing instead. Most of the sound effects in the game that I am familiar with, I only know because I could hear them in the background when voice chatting with teammates.

I don't have a battle playlist or anything. Just whatever music I feel like playing. Pretty much my whole music library at different points in time.

I know the way I play drives some people nuts, though. Some of my friends can't understand it. But it works for me!

I even got really good at searching visually for glowies, since I can never hear them.

Whether at work or at home, I typically have two monitors available. As such, I have something from Hulu playing on the other window.

My girlfriend watches TV while she plays, too (with CoH sound completely off). I wouldn't be able to stand that.

While running missions, I usually play very high-energy electronic music. DJ Tiesto's Parade of Athletes syncs up very well with this game's pace.

cool responses so far. The one that kinda both suprised me and didn't at the same time (hard to explain) is none.

I mean to each there own but for me the right music emerses me more kind like a movie, but then again my current comp allows me to play CoH with my desk top music player in the back ground and I can hear most sounds over the music (including the freak tank rez, the only sounds I may not be able to hear is those very light ambeint sounds.

any way keep em coming

Mostly various sub-genres of what may loosely be described as Jazz. I mean everything from Miles' ******* Brew through Coltrane to JTQ and Pat Metheny, with a very healthy mix of movie and TV theme tunes for good measure: Lalo Schiffrin & John Barry are amazing.

Edit to add Aww Man, a perfectly legitimate album title borked.

When I was leveling up my Bots/Dark MM, I had just gotten a few Bird and the Bee CD's. If you've heard them, you might be able to see how they could fit a darkity-dark evil teenage girl and her army of bots...

But that was months ago. These days? Depends on if I want to bother popping in a CD or not. If I do, it's whatever I bought recently(ish) and feel like listening to, moreso than "what's right for the game or this here toon".

This is about my current list:

High Places (anything of theirs as I seem to have it all now)
Kid Koala (I only have one right now, "Some Of My Best Friends Are DJs")
St. Vincent "Actor" (goes well with Bird and the Bee and Regina Spektor, whom I was listening to right after I moved on from my MM)

Whatever is piping in through the baby monitor :-/

We have a lullaby version of some Cure songs. The cover of Fascination Street is strangely even more morose than the original.

Man, I gotta change that CD...

25% of the time I use the game's own sound/music. The other 75% I use game sound effects plus my own soundtrack.

Mostly tracks from movie/game soundtracks that I liked the sound of. Anything from obvious stuff like "Burly Brawl" from Matrix Reloaded, to "Battle Merits" from the original Kessen game. Also random 80s stuff like Africa, Take On Me and other pop rock fare. I'm fond of "Fly me to the Moon" from Bayonetta at the moment, when using my Dual Pistols Corr

"Dark Phoenix's Tragedy" from X-Men 3 is the absolute best soundtrack for an AV battle. For four years it's been what I play the Tree mission of the villain respec and last mission of the LRSF to.

Random selection:

"Enterprising Young Men" from Star Trek (the new film).
"Rinbu Revolution" from Revoluntionary Girl Utena.
"The Howling" by Within Temptation.
The long version of Reiko's theme ("Look to the Sky") from Rumble Roses 1.
Ending Titles from Blade Runner.
Stuff from Star Trek II and IV, Troy, Unbreakable, Transformers (cartoon movie and first live-action movie), The Matrix trilogy, Dynasty Warriors games, Donkey Kong Country games, "Port Town" from F-Zero, anything from Mass Effect I&II.
Ogre's and Yoshimitsu's themes from Tekken 3 fit into pretty much any in-game situation.

So yeah, pretty much anything I've heard and liked, over the past 10 years. There's like 2000 tracks on my playlist, 80% instrumental/soundtracks.

None. I love music, but I hate not being able to hear the glowies when they are hidden.
