Thank everyone. We're still hovering at 33% using Hide From Searches and have been hovering there for some time. I'm going to call it at that.
1/3 of the player base is generally hiding from searches. Final tally: Yes: 34 No: 68 Is this a scientific poll? Of course not. Could a dev swoop in and say "the forum going populace is not an accurate representation of the playerbase on the whole." Of course. But for my calculations, 1/3 hidden it is. |

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
I wonder how much hidden people add to the perception that server populations are down. I used to periodically search for all players on Justice just to get a head count. I haven't done that in so long I forgot what the average was. But I did note that there were less and less players. Part of the seperation began after CoV came out and we were divided by faction.
But if a third of a server's population is hidden, there may be a lot more people around than we think there are.

Everyone, I need your help determining something.
If you spend the vast majority of your game time using the Hidden From Searches flag, please respond to this post with the word "Yes." If you spend the vast majority of your game time NOT using the Hidden From Searches flag, please respond to this post with the word "No." I do not need to know why you do or do not use it. I do not wish to know what percentage of the time you do or do not use it unless that time is close to 50/50 in which case I will toss your result out. I am only seeking to determine what percentage of the player base tends to nearly always remain hidden from searches. Thank you for your support. |
Absolutely.
All the time. All of my toons...

PS> I also have pretty much every option OFF (teaming, accept invites, gifts, etc.)
that I can. Yes, I *am* that antisocial...
PPS> From a statistical standpoint Bill, a survey of forumites is very probably
a skewed sample, primarily because I'd expect them to be (in general) less
casual players, and generally more aware of game mechanics, nuances, and
changes than the average CoH/V player (who isn't subjected to the large
quantities of (quality) game information). Just a Caveat for your analysis.

I don't think it requires a dev to state forum going populace is not an accurate representation of the playerbase on the whole either.
I'm a nope btw.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Apart from this only being forum goers, theres no breakdown of servers, eg do people hide more on virtue than liberty.

So, while that may be a decently accurate analysis for forumites, it doesn't necessarily represent the playerbase as a whole. One can't assume that "most players probably visit the forums."
