Even at $40.00, Complete Collection's DVD's are cheaper for me than to download against my town's access limits. Plus, I can hang on to the key so if a friend is interested, they can play City of Heroes free for a month. Go Team Venture!

Thats truly unfortunate and a silly fee Tahquitz.

Enjoy your day please.

HOLY [WARNING EXPLICIT LYRICS], that sucks!

You know, as bad as Craptastic! is, this puts things into perspective.

UPDATE: As of this afternoon, nothing has been communicated to the local GS stores regarding this promotion. They still don't know if my pre-orders, placed prior to the promotion announcement will qualify for the stuff, or if they need to do anything to make them so.

I went into the local GameStop today (June 7) to put my 5 dollars down. The store employee checked the release date that they were given.

Guess what, their system shows a release date of September 2, 2010.

That is the information they have been given. Hard to tell what the release date will be.

When you received your preorder receipt, was it printed with a code and instructions on how to redeem the code? That seems to be the "tell" for if that date is an "official one" or a WAG by GameStop. If there is an officiual release date, GameStop can start the preorder promotion and there will be a code. If there's no code on the receipt, then the promotion hasn't started and the release date is a placeholder or WAG.

No code, no instructions. I guess it is just a placeholder for their systems.

I am new to the preorder world, so it is just my misunderstanding.

Thank you Redbone for the information.

Well, to be honest, it's supposition, but founded on statements to myself and others made by in-store employees and their "home office" customer service. My guess is (and this is a WAG) that the targeted date for release was July 20th, but they've run into trouble somewhere (either in Beta or production or distribution) or they're targeting the release of another game to have a box to compete with it and have delayed the release to an as of yet unknown target date. This is backed by the official FAQ changing from July to "Summer" and the wildly varying unofficial release dates given (some outlets say July 20, some say Spetember 1, 2 or 18, some say "late fall" some say "winter").

At a guess, I'd say the prepurchase folks will be playing with their two new powersets a BIT longer than expected before the rest of us get them.

I have to be honest, I hope that they do take a little longer to release GR than the previously mentioned July 2010. After Issue 17 it is probably a really good idea to make this as good as possible before release.

But I really wish people would stop the useless speculation on it. We can all whine and moan but as of yet, I have not seen an "Official" date/time frame change for the release of GR. Let's try just being patient and seeing what happens next month.

Black Pebble wants questions:

If you have any other questions or concerns that were not addressed by me, or in the information released by GameStop or Razer, please let me know in this thread. I want to make sure that you have all of the information available to you, and that details of this promotion are as transparent as possible.

*Going Rogue Closed Beta Access will be granted using a three-tier system:

o Tier One: City of Heroes Veterans with 60+ months of paid time.
o Tier Two: Loyalty Program players
o Tier Three: Players who Pre-Order Going Rogue (Preorder details to be announced at a later date)
Plain and clear, please. Does Tier Three refer to...

A. The prepurchase program
B. The GameStop pre-order program
C. Some other pre-order (through NCSoft possibly)

This has been a rather big point of confusion of late. Thanks.

Dec out.

I can tell you this : if you are not given a code at the time of pre-order to apply to your account, you won't be in the T3 wave.

For CoV, you were given a pre-order product key that flagged your account as ready for the beta when ordering.

At the time of that announcement, the pre-purchase system was not yet in place. Use the term pre-purchase (as in via the NCSoft Store, the same way you get early access to DuPi and DeSu) instead of pre-order in this instance.

There is no mechanism in place for retail pre-orderers to get into the beta.

Thank you all for the feedback regarding this promotion. I would like to answer some of the more commonly asked questions.

Many of your questions are answered in the Going Rogue FAQ. As for some of the others:

  • As with most of our physical boxed products, the retail (boxed) version of the City of Heroes Going Rogue Complete Collection is stackable once, even if you have already bought or prepurchased the separate Going Rogue Expansion or the digital version of the Complete Collection.
  • Thus, if you prepurchased Going Rogue, and you also buy the Complete Collection at GameStop, you can enjoy the benefits from both purchases.
  • The five enhancements will not be purchasable separately when Going Rogue is launched. They will be exclusive to GameStop at launch.
  • The five enhancements will be provided via a code that is printed on your receipt when you receive your Complete Collection retail box from GameStop.
  • The digital version of the Complete Collection will be available from NCsoft for our US and EU customers on launch day.
  • The Complete Collection Item Pack will also be available for our prepurchase customers on launch day.

Are the 5 enhancements available only with preorder of GRCC or will they be available from Gamestop after launch too?

If somebody you're arguing with goes off the deep end, don't follow.

Thanks, that really helps to have this info!

Now... if you can get someone from Production to answer this question, we'll be golden:

The Loyalty Program announcement promised that pre-ORDERS will get an automatic buy-in into the Closed Beta (third tier).

1. Does that still exist and does that pertain to those who pre-ORDERED through GameStop and other retailers? And if yes, by what mechanism do they get into Closed Beta?

2. Does that apply to those who pre-PURCHASED, too?

Does this mean that I can apply the code for the enhancements to one account and then apply the code for the going rogue expansion to a second account?

What are these new enhancements?

Will of the Seers:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to cause additional Psi Damage

Clockwork Efficiency:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to additional Energy Damage

Might of the Empire:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to knock down opponents

Resistance Tactics:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to cause additional Smash Damage

Syndicate Techniques:
+ Increase the damage of your power and reduce its recharge time by 16%.
+ Your power now has a chance to cause a Lethal Proc

How do the enhancement bonuses work?

Much like Invention Origin Enhancements, these enhancements provide an unchanging bonus towards the respective effects. This is affected by Enhancement Diversification like any other enhancement.

What about the chance to cause damage?

From levels 1 to 20 the enhancement provides a chance to cause a small amount of additional damage. After level 20 this chance will no longer occur.

I hope this clears any confusion up.

Thanks,
Yeah, I think that clears up the confusion.
I'll be going to GameStop and pulling my pre-order tomorrow.
I'll wait to see how many free slots we are getting before I buy the expansion.

I don't see why it has to be such a secret "how many free slots" we are getting, but apparently it is. This means to me that we aren't getting many.
If people get different amounts if they pre-order or pre-purchase, that's going to set people off as well.

Who knows what is going on in regard to the slots?
Does marketing know?
Does anyone know?
Will it be a suprise to everyone when GR goes live?

Can we still buy the pre-order once GR goes live if it gives more free slots than pre-order?

I'm seeing a massive ball-dropping going on.
I'm not liking it.

The whole e-mail situation was not handled well. I'm extremely disappointed. Did I say I was going to go pull my pre-order tomorrow?
Yeah, I'm pretty upset about this lack of information.

http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.com/en/gamestop/
still has not been corrected in regards to the "special" enhancements.

http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/gam..._overview.html
has not been corrected in regards to the e-mail.

As players we have a right to be upset when our product is not functioning as we were lead to believe it would be.
With the new rush to get through the first 20 levels, those "special" enhancements are all but worthless. How will a new player feel when they find that out?

That's very bad. very bad.

You guys really need to talk to Prometheus more. His brother will steer you the wrong way every time.

Its been stated, but not in this thread, that there will be 2 additional character slots for those that purchase GR. They are in no way related to this pre-order gamestop special. You cannot exceed the maximum character slots per server limit (36).

No, this pre-order from gamestop is only available now. Once GR goes live, the pre-order special is gone. If you currently have the game pre-ordered at gamestop, when you go in to buy your box, your receipt will have the pre-order code printed on it. You update your account with that code, and you get GR+all the gamestop goods virtual goods.

Just what is it about this question that they won't answer? It would seem to be easy from their end, wouldn't it?

To me it's obvious that automatic beta access applies only to prepurchase as, unlike with CoV, there is no advanced code sent out by the retailers to apply to the account. NC has no way of know who pre-ordered. It's also obvious that the loyalty program stuff was written up way before any pre-anything plans were finalized, and at the time they probably assumed things would work like they did for CoV.

To me this is the only logical state of affairs, and there's no need for clarification, but hey... I could be wrong.

The fact that even you, sure as you are, admit you could be wrong is why there's need for clarification (although I must say I'm leaning towards your...and others'...view as well)

I'm fairly convinced that this is the case as well. It is the only answer that seems logical.

That being said an official confirmation would be nice.
