zomg finally!

based on the reworking and overhauls they did for defiance and domination, this is exciting.


Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

Well they said it's aimed at helping Defenders solo better. Maybe a damage boost when solo (or on smaller teams)?

Well, isn't that what Defenders really need when it comes to soloing? They have OK control, and gobs of buffs/debuff; it's trying to actually kill things solo that makes it frustrating.

well in a perfect world, the inherent should be something that helps them solo and something that helps on teams that is more consistent than the crappy end red that is currently in vig, so it'll be interesting to see what comes out.

Hopefully, it's something a little more interesting than just a method for buffing damage. That seems like it's been the solution for pretty much every AT revamp thusfar. That said, I'm interested in seeing how it plays out, either way.

I wonder if it's built on the Dual Pistols mechanic that changes power functions under certain conditions.

My guess is it'll be more like the Kheldian Inherents and apply some sort of buff/debuff for each teammate present. That seems the easiest way to give Defenders something that only works solo, give them an "always on" buff then apply a debuff to remove it when teaming.

This seems like an option they'd probably take, given that most of the complains about Defender damage output come from those who are trying to solo with them. Then there's the fact that both AT revamps since I13 (Khelds and Doms) have more or less been "increase their damage."

What more do I need on my defenders, than damage? Solo I survive fine. It's killing slowly that's bothersome.

Perhaps the first power you choose in your Primary powerset will automatically auto-fire in a new preset mechanic allowing you to set another power to the standard "green circle" autofire.

The blurb about it in the Zephyr thread - not from a dev, so assuming that it's a closed beta leak - is a 35% damage increase while solo, which puts them above Corruptors for damage with better mez, (self-)buff, and debuff numbers. Sounds "balanced".

I suspect an inherent damage increase when solo to boost us to pre-Defiant Blaster damage... and when we're teamed will enhance all of our buff/debuff numbers somehow.

But what about those poor people whose concept only revolves around the current Vigilance? This change will break that concept, you can't just change things like that! Also, my Defender solos just fine! Just watch this video: -insert a painfully long video of a Defender tickling an even-con Council spawn-, see? Defenders are fine! Maybe you just need to learn to play! :coolface with sunglasses:

Well as I said in that thread, assuming that it's a damage buff as opposed to an increase in base damage and that both characters have 95% damage enhancement it puts us at about 2% higher damage than Corruptors. Since they get Scourge they will still deal more damage solo than us.

Slightly more, if the mob is in Scourge range and Scourge isn't simply behaving as overkill (that is, the attack would've killed the mob without the extra damage). Or, in other words, most of the time you attack while solo a Defender will do more damage; all of the time if you're playing Sonic Blast. On top of that, you'll have higher (self-)buff numbers, stronger debuffs, and longer-lasting mezzes all the time, including on a team when individual damage is less important than the higher degree of force multiplication.

I'll wait for i17 open beta and see if there's truth to the rumor and then if there's anything for Corruptors (such as higher mez/buff/debuff AT modifiers, given that the rumored Defender change seems to be geared towards homogenizing the disparate ATs). But assuming what I suspect is true, then I'll start my "Corruptors need Blaster base damage" campaign - previously only brought up as a joke - because apparently the devs could care less about how the different ATs compare to each other (that or they really do hate villains), and Corruptors do need to do more than 2% less damage than Defenders to make up for the weaker AT modifiers in everything else that they do.

Note that I'm not against Defenders getting a buff, or some help. I do think that this particular one is the wrong way to go about it - they should emphasize the difference between the ATs, not homogenize them.

A sliding dmg/end rdx scale based on the number of teammates would be nifty. I've never been a big opponent of the current vigilance however I'm excited to see what may be in store. I was very happy with Defiance and Domination changes.

but they completely reworked defiance and domination. if it is something as simple as a damage buff, then they should have just raised the damage mod as apposed to the "quick fix" a damage buff would be.

although I really don't care what it is as long as it doesn't very on team size/how well said team size is doing, rather a constant buff as apposed to one that varies like current vigilance does.

Well, I have been trying to campaign for both defenders and corruptors myself.

You shouldn't buff one without the other!

The problem is if you buff defender damage AND buff Corruptor buff/debuff mods, then they end up being the exact same AT. If you want to slightly buff Corr damage numbers so that they're still a little better in that department, then go ahead.

I'm all for more defender damage as long as the buff drops while they're teamed. That won't "homogenize" them in the larger scope of things, it'll just make soloing easier.

Boy, the people who do Mids are gonna have a headache programing this in...
