Do Something With The Shard Already!
Okay, I guess it's probably years since I took any of my toons into the shard all the way to the Storm Palace ... maybe two computers ago if I'm guessing right.
One word: WOW! I saw meteorites striking the big floating Pokemon palace! I heard lightning! It was so much better than I remembered ... For gosh sakes, Devs, do something! Use that cool zone for SOMETHING besides gathering dust! |

I agree so so much!
The zone should be the centerpiece of imaginative other-worldliness, not some half-hidden-away-in-a-corner zone "gathering dust".
It's so beautiful, why is it so...vacant?!?
Isn't the Shard where Nemesis dumps any plot he deems to silly to actually work
Maybe they can put a few Task Forces in there.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
i agree they need to add more stuff in the shard, an no it doesnt need any more 4 hour tfs
it does need shorter tfs, and it also needs the tfs to STAY IN THE ZONE
Forget TFs. It needs normal contacts and a story told therein.
The Shard has the best reason out of any zone to be made co-op.
It would need a lot of work for a proper revamp, even if the zone geometry itself was left unchanged. Change the soldiers to an actual mob group, install teleporters to get around, make the geyser things actually work, and put in freaking contacts.
The problem with the Shard, is that it was made so long ago, to the old Everquest school of MMO that nobody likes anymore. It's kind of stunning to think that people used to think that was good game design.
Also in favor of some Shard work... but I imagine the Devs are busy with other stuff atm
Also, I sadly admit that I would like to see some lunar landscapes or eery underwater scenes before any Shard revamp.
So its, down the list a bit.
Shadow Shard was amazing back when it was first introduced. I had wondered if maybe EQ2 devs had been in this game and paid attention to what the Plane of Sky *should* look like.
Everybody hates it because only Fly works really well for getting around. Those jump points should've had predetermined leap paths so you wouldn't MISS with them more often than not.
Ideally you'd have tons of Contacts in mole points all over the place, and make it like the Hollows so instead of sending you 2 miles away for your mission they send you to the island, or at least NEARBY islands. Arachnos could easily have set up their own military posts around in the many, many Nemesis bunkers that compete with stargate command.
Maybe the zones could be coop, but the PvP comes in the form of who has done more lately. If the Villains have seized control of more areas in the Shard than Heroes by running more missions or capturing Hotspots or something they could get +Travel speed zonewide buffs or whatever. Make those Raptor Packs fly more quicker! Or seizing control of Mole Points from Nemesis/Rularuu that allow fast movement across the massive Shard zones for your faction.
Sometimes I like to go fight around the inner ring of the Storm Palace death star, just for fun.
I'd love to see an Arachnos version of Firebase Zulu, and some villian only content in new Shadow Shard zones. But I'm also for having a co-op zone, with the same amount of action and content you see in the RWZ now.
EDIT: Actually, maybe it could be a "sequel" to the RWZ, as in the Vanguard is taking the fight to Nemesis directly, now, this time allied with the peace loving Rikti who realized they've been played, and they've established a base in the Shadow Shard close to Nemesis' own. Then we could get to see a Vanguard version of Firebase Zulu, and an upgraded version of Nemesis' base. Would that be cool or what?
As well, the whole concept also begs for a PvP zone on top of all that. Some resource that both sides covet and don't want the other to have, so there's a struggle there. I don't know, maybe revisit the whole "items of power" concept with that? That might work out somehow.

i think the zone is cool (admittedly a little large), but i would prolly be there more if it actually had more content in it other than the 1 contact that gives you numerous hunt mishs or mishs 2 miles away
Same as the last time this subject came up, /signed on making it a co-op zone.
Would the Praetorian Shadow Shard be like Avatar's Pandora?

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Landscape: barren cratered rock (lunar). One of the large rock formations that got bombarded by whatever broke the place up and no life grew on it. Maybe the area still vents dangerous gasses so there would be a domed living area/base (trying to make use of the gases, perhaps, thus can lead to a scenario or three).
Landscape: water bubbles. Large water bubbles could be floating in the Shard; that would easy enough to enter and leave. It could contain a new mob type, or a variant of the Corallax (less work to create). (and a sponge named Bob )
Landscape: The Snowcone. A large mountain-like rock, with attached plateau and miles of caves (I heard that groan); it's snow-covered. "Yeti"s live there (reskinned Hydras?). Could even have a temple of some sort on a cliffside or smaller peak off to the side of the main peak.
well, you get the idea...

/signed. The Shard has always been my favorite zone. I wish I had more reasons to spend more time there. Infinite generic missions are not a good reason.
Move all the parts where you learn background information into a series of storyarcs like the RWZ. Trim down the TFs into 5-6 mission ones with new maps and Puzzle Bosses (ala 5th column TF/SF). Give villains their own parts of the Shard and reuse the mechanic of buff our side/debuff the other side missions from PvP zones (without actually making the zones PvP).
I guarantee that whatever new zone will have to be axed to give the Shard dev time cannot possibly be more awesome than a revamped Shard.

this, and maybe add in some kind of raid where you actually fight rularuu the ravager, would be like an alternative to hami raid (could prolly be just as difficult depending on design)
|
EDIT: And heavily guarded by Shard Reflections of Jack in Irons, Eochai, The Winter Lord, Deathsurge, and the Khronos Titan. And inside, there's a weakened reflection of the Hamidon that must be destroyed, that will finally summon Rularuu the Ravager upon defeat.
This also leaves such raids very open to lots of Star Wars references on the Broadcast channel.
To each his own. I have never liked this zone. When I first saw, it did bring back some fond memories of old Steve Ditko Dr. Strange comics, but I find the whole thing a big pain to navigate. I avoid this zone like the plague.
