By a large margin, my favourite thing to do on this game is to join in a large team and get into huge battles with countless criminals/cops. I'm very fond of PvE and team play. To that end, I was wondering, what does everyone find themselves wishing they had most in their team once they hit the level 50 range? Empathy defenders? Tanks using a particular defensive build? A corrupter using electric attacks?

I'm interested in both the hero side and the villain side. If the server is important, I usually frequent the Virtue server.

"This team really needs more enemies."

Just the other day we had a full team running "Raid the Snake Temple" from Operative Grillo, at +4 difficulty. It was hilarious fun, and we crushed everything in our path. The only time someone died was when a brute decided to try and solo the next spawn.

Even when we ran into the room full of snake eggs, we enjoyed ourselves. Someone ran around making all the eggs hatch. Then we had a room with about SXITY lv54 bosses spewing toxic damage, plus a lv54 AV. That was fun... though probably only fun for a team full of players trying to challenge themselves, who is also able to laugh at their own stupidity and doesn't care if we team wipe once or twice.

After that we tried doing "'Invite' the Center" from Viridian at +4/x8 (but with only 6 players, since a couple dropped). We handled Burkholder pretty well, completing the mission, but we wanted to stick around and get through the other 5 lv54 AVs. Maestro and Vandal weren't so bad (though looking back we probably should've done +3 instead of +4, because at +4 the AVs just took too damn long to kill). We hit a grinding halt at Nosferatu, unfortunately. Hit tohit debuffs and self-heals were just too much for us to get past.

Easy - someone who knows how to play his/her toon. AT and powersets are not really important when people know how to play well.

I won't ever join a group in which the recruiter advertises "Team needs a ___." It's one of my little rules.

If I have already joined a TF team and the leader changes the search to "TF just needs a ___ to begin," I'll make a comment that we really don't. If it looks like we are going to wait around until the magic savior AT joins I will politely drop from the team.

Whenever I am leading a team, my recruiting is straightforward. "All ATs welcome, as long as you fight. Slackers will be booted. 'Pure healers' will be mocked, then booted."

This, right here. Teams that think they need an X are teams to be avoided.

I think I've seen you recruiting before! Brilliant recruiting strategy btw. Nothing is more frustrating than endlessly waiting for some magic AT that will overcome the team's lack of strategy/imagination.

I'd say pretty much any support set (Defender, Controller, Corrupter or Mastermind) is valuable to a big team, slightly more so than a self-sufficient character.

The value may change from earlier levels. Kinetics, for example, is great for -Damage and -Regen debuffs (spammed Transfusion) against AVs, even though everyone has their end requirments under control by the time they're 50 (I hope). Its also a source of mez protection if thats needed.

From what I've seen, Virtue isn't short on these archetypes, but more on a team is always welcome.

Anything really.

I'd only ever look for specific ATs if I were going to do MoSTF, and even then good players (people I've played with and know they're good) are usually a better choice than random people, even if they were playing a "sub-par" character. It really bothers me when people advertise "TF starting need healer/tanker to start", and what bothers me even more is being in one of these teams and trying to explain to the leader that they really don't need either of them.

Usually if I get invited to one of these teams I'll stay, but if they won't invite people because "sry ur dark we nd heal0r" then I'll quit...

Generally I'm not bothered by the AT mixtures we have. Sometimes if people offer and we are leaning towards a lot of offensive ATs (scrappers, blasters, tanks) then I will ask for some sort of support toon (controller, defenders) but thats about it but I wouldn't say what powersets etc.

I think this stems from going in a Moonfire TF many a moon ago (pun intended!) and once the team had formed a scrapper saying that we really should have a tank. No one really wanted to switch so I volunteered and logged off my blaster (which I really wanted to play!) and logged in my tank. The scrapper then went onto tank the entire TF and it left me a bit bitter because I really wanted to play my blaster.

If your mouse has greater processing power than your gfx card, the answer is yes.

People should have their End requirements under control for normal circumstances by 50, but that doesn't mean they'll last indefinitely in lengthy AV or GM fights without running low on gas. This is more of an issue on small teams, though; large teams make these fights go fast enough. Aside from that, at 50 it's still worth handing out Speed Boost for the hefty +recharge, since short of high-end IO builds everyone can use more of that one way or another.

As for Transference, I mainly use that to keep myself topped up - as you said, everyone should try to get their end issues under control by then, and transference is a good way for the kin himself to do it.

As others have said, I make it a point of never joining "we need a ___" teams, and all my teams are parties and everyone's invited.

Though one time on a Peacebringer I ended up with six more people, with all ATs represented. Not to any real tactical advantage, it just amused me to no end.

Whatever can help me get through the next mob faster than I can on my own. If that means some heals in between my self heal or more damage or buffs and debuffs then I love it.

As for teaming with those looking for specific ATs. If they are star that is fine but if they take too long (for whatever reason) then I will probably drop. I have been on a PUG of random ATs for TFs/AVs that worked extremely well and not so well. Same for crafted teams although the fastest ITF I have been on was a carefully built team by the star who knew what he wanted and it was pretty awesome.

I'll echo the "competent players of any AT" sentiment, however if we're running a TF I generally do have some thoughts on what would most help the team. If we're already heavy on support I'm probably going to be looking mainly for damage... likewise a team of 5-6 blasters would benefit most from adding some control or buff/debuff over simply more damage.

Mostly I don't get too bent out of shape over team composition unless we're running something like a STF and even then as long as we have adequate damage and mitigation I'll give it a shot.

I like having three things on any team facing challenging content... Buff/Debuff, Control and Damage. For the buff/debuff portion you have Defenders and Controllers, for the Control portion you have Controllers, Tankers and depending on powersets Scrappers. Damage is primarily Blasters, Scrappers and some Controller/Defender builds.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. I love dropping into a PUG with a blaster and seeing 3 or 4 more on the team. Yeah, you get the occasional wipe, but it's sure fun.

I played a pure healer once to get my first 50 hero and I pulled a lot of teams out of the fire and prevented many team wipes.
Relax! Once I hit 38ish I found I got quite bored nobody needed me anymore and I had to change my build to join in.
Yeah at 50 there isn't a particular AT required except maybe on the signature TF/SFs

I'd love a team full of the powersets that are the so called pity spot taking sets. That's my ideal team right there! Yep even try an MoSTF.

More chatter. Quiet teams make my skin crawl.

As everyone else has said in high end play the actual team composition doesn't matter a whole lot as long as everyone is competent and pulls their weight in fights so I would say go with a character you enjoy playing.

That being said, characters with a buff/debuff set (Defenders, Controllers, Corruptors and Masterminds) act as force multipliers which can make a team really rock. Rad, Dark and Kin are probably the most popular but all of the buff/debuff sets are good.

I think it varies depending on the team make up. Stone tanker, heck just about any tanker, along with Blasters will kill to have a Kin along. Teams comprised of mostly squishies look for a tank, any tank, to keep the aggro off them while they blast away at a distance. Everyone loves a Debuffer and Rad/Rad comes in very hand if you are facing a lot of AVs or about to tackles a GM. The whole notion of the "perfect team" is silly. I did a Citadel with 6 Blasters, 1 Scrapper and one slightly over worked Emp Defender and the damage output was so high we breezed through it. I have taken down GMs with a 4 man team.. 1 Defender, 2 Controllers and 1 Warshade (playing Tank). Some of the best teams I have been on were nothing but Defenders and Controllers.. If everything is debuffed, held, immobbed, confused, can't hit us and we heal faster than they can do damage.. we win.

Several people have said it already as long as the players know how to USE their character any combination can win in almost every case.

Then how are they going to learn? Honestly. They could just be noobs who need to be shown the way. Tell them they don't need such and such, and if they'er responsive, great, you've just helped evolve a better teammate. If they'er pigheaded, leave.

I'd rather teach some of these noobs to be better teammates so there are more of them around when i need them. heh.
