Please make a "Healer" Class.

Ok, iv had just about all I can stand, please make a "Healer" AT for this game!

Im getting rather tired of jumping on one of my Defenders, or one of my Controllers, looking for a team, and having a few things happen to me when I do.

1) "Can you heal?", or "Sorry, but we need a healer.", is common place when sending in a /tell to someone asking you to send one in the first place to join the team.

2) "Sorry, but we need a healer, happy hunting.", when you get grabbed up for a team on your Traps/Rad Defender, and get immediatly booted off because your not a Empathy.

3) You get the blame when the team faceplants, regaurdless of reason, and usually get a comment from someone about you not being a healer, or needing one.Sometimes a boot willl happen after a single face plant, and get a /tell like the following."Make a real Defender noob!", and we all know what kind of Defender that player exspects at that point, a Empathy!

This by far isnt the first time iv faced this, nore the first for many others, but its starting to get annoying when I wanna team, and instead, get to travel around Solo because many players think this is another game, where Healers exist.

Yes, I will say Defenders are broken, and its not there Vigilance to blame at all, it does its job more then most will pay attention to.The main problem with Defenders, is they are Labelled, Shackled, Down-trodden, and put apon for wanting to acctually contribute damage, and other powers that make them shine, not to just be healers like people belive they should be, and suffer the most out of any AT when it comes to being singled out pushed away from being anything but a heal-bot.

So I ask that it be taken into consideration to make a Pure Healer Class for this game, so we Defenders, and sometimes Controllers, can get a break, and do what we where made for!DEFENDING THE TEAM!

Wow. And your like kinda new to the game (if your "join date" is an indication of when you started playing). Isn't it a bit soon to be this jaded?

A few things come to mind in response to your post...

1. The teams you got booted from for wanting a 'healer' probably aren't the teams you want to be on anyways.

2. On any of my buffers/debuffers, i've also found that I am an Educator. Check the powersets of the folks you're with, and let the team know how you can best serve them and they can best serve you. An example; I was on a team with my lowbie traps/sonic, a A/TA def with just glue arrow in the secondary, and a blaster with a mix of melee. The team lead was unable to find a 'healer' to their distress, and i suggested staying under the bubble, and letting mobs dance on the caltrops both the blaster and I had. We moved through missions at good speed.

3. I was going to say something here about how valuable heals are in the pre-SO game, and how they pale in comparison to buffs/debuffs post-SOs. Then I began to think even that is an overgeneralization. So much depends on team composition, how the team works together, and if the team lead is effectively tailoring the challenge their posting to the actual team they are working with.

so that leads me to...

4. Just stick with it. There will never be a 'healer' AT. Be patient, and accrue a list of global friends who have their heads screwed on straight, and then you won't have to play with folks who don't understand how the game works.

I'm sick and tired of this topic.

Let's save several dozen pages of discussion right now.

Some powersets of support classes are able to restore HP, some prevent damage, some reduce damage, and still others show that the best defense is a strong offense. All of these options can drastically improve the capability of a team.

If you aren't valued on your team, leave it. If you find you run across too many teams that don't value your contribution, try using the server transfers and see if you can find a community you enjoy spending time with more.

That's a rather dumb suggestion: spend extra money until you find what you're looking for.

I'd simply suggest making your own team. You know what your powers can and can't do so you can bring in teammates that will accentuate your abilities. "Oh, you're empathy? Nah, I need a controller or TA defender to keep foes in my traps. Bye." *kick*

I wouldn't suggest kicking people but you get the idea.

They have this wonderful thing called free transfers until the end of February.

Sounds like you are getting into groups with a bunch of noobs inviting you. Healing is always nice. But really, empathy is my least favorite defender set of the bunch. The buffs are nice but recharge way to slow and the only reason they need to be able to heal like they do is because they have no other way to keep a team alive. The other sets can, through either, faster buffs, debuffs or soft controls keep most of the damage from being dealt in the first place.

Find smart players that know that a defender's job isn't supposed to be a heal-bot and put them on your friend list. Also, finding an active SG with enough experienced players that know what a defender is really for would be a good idea.

Would it make you feel better if instead of "Are you a healer" they asked "Are you an Empath/Pain Dom/possibly Thermal"?

Wow, really? Hmm, I hadn't even considered moving any characters although the though has crossed my mind. Could I leverage this to change a characters name for free? Or are those free too?

As was already said, there's this thing called 'free server transfers'. It's also been extended until the end of February.

I also happen to frequent the brute boards where I have had the impression that the OP may benefit from looking at trying some other communities. Rather than completely explain my thought process right now (and likely offend an entire server for an unfortunate stereotype), if you would like to understand why I suggested it, just start searching the brute forums.

In any case, nothing ever productive happens with this topic.

So why is this is an issue?

Hey, I discovered free server transfers. I'd say that's productive, for me at least

Because I didn't know server transfers were free when I posted that?

But besides that, transfering to another server probably won't solve much. I find PuGs to be rather similar across the servers I frequent.

I play mostly on justice, and been on freedom for awhile now, I have a lvl 50 defender that is emp/psi, I hardly play him, for people want an sber, or a rad. When ever i am on any of my trollers, or fenders I have yet had a problem getting on teams, I did a all fender/cor ITF with my kin, I asked what they wanted and was told either a rad, or a kin. So I do not know where you get the feeling that all they want is a emp. Lets see now rads heal, Thermal heals, Kins heals, Dark heals, Empathy heals, am I missing any? Oh ya a good storm with 02 Boost heals.

Noobs? No don't confine that to new players I have been on teams with a leader sporting 50 months plus Vet badges that are still wandering around with the attitude I MUST have a Tank to control aggro, I must have a healer to keep us alive, and I must fill the team with Scrappers and Blasters for maximum damage. I just ran a very successful Numina TF on Friday with Myself as leader on a Warshade along with a bunch of Defenders and Controller and one lone Scrapper. Granted Numina when organized well is not a yough TFto do but the oonly time I ever needed to switch my WS from Human to Dark Dwarf form was as we took out Jurrasic in the final mission. WAY too many VETS out there running teams that never quite got over that old school mentalitt there is one lone team build for success. I agree with Tonality... this argument has been going back and forth as long as the game and the forums have existed. If it can't move, can't hit me on aregular basis, is taking damage at an excellerated rate and what damge it does d is being healed faster than the baddies can dish it out...we win. Best teams I have been on were full of Trollers and Defenders without a Scrapper or Tank in sight. I did an all Controller KHTF that finished in 19 minutes. Took down Adamastor with a 4 man team.. 2 Controller, 1 Defender (Rad?Rad) and my Warshade in Dark Nova mode.

If you keep running into that mentality (to the OP) do as was suggested.. From your own team and build it the way you want!

Stay away from Virtue/Freedom. Go to a small server, and join their chat channel (most of then have it).

I have no problems on getting/assembling teams on Guardian, and there is virtually NO DRAMA about ATs... I am addicted to Defenders and Trollers, having a few 50´s of each, and only one Empath (my first and least played defender).

One of the wonderfull things about this game is its community. Be part of it and have lots of fun!

You can indeed use it to get sneaky free renames. If you want to rename character A, make a throwaway character with the same name as A on a different server then transfer A to that server. You'll then get a free rename for A and you can transfer them back.

OR

Transfer A off to another server, make a throwaway character on A's original server with A's name, move A back and you'll be able to rename A.

Either way works. I've freenamed several of my characters :3

Edit: Bear in mind that all of this is dependant on what names are available where.

I love that freenamed term. So catchy. I did it the other day after a friend tipped me off to how it could be done.

To the OP, it is surprisingly effective to list your powersets in your comment box to avoid anyone from attempting to add your buff/debuff AT to their team when they are looking for a healer. If the devs ever added an entire AT that had no value beyond "healing", it wouldn't solve any problem, it would just compound the issue

I, for one, am tired of everyone on the boards constantly ragging down the population of freedom as being the worst server in the game. Sure, there are a lot of bad players there, but I am more than sure there are some everywhere. There are still lots of competent and skilled players there to offset the negative ones.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

I can see this happening, true. But Noob is more a state of mind in my opinion. I have an Ice/Rad controller, If I happen to need it or am in a group when people's health bars are kind of low I will throw out my heal now and then. But I am much, much busier throwing out debuffs and controls then anything else in a large group situation. I figure I am mitigating a lot more damage then I could ever heal.

You should run teams yourself, at all times.

Problem solved.

It's not the community.

It's you.

You do not have anything to complain about when all you do is sit around waiting to be invited into a team.

I got this the other day on an SG TF, totally pissed me off!
And the person tried to tell me "You're a Defender, why aren't you healing?" To which I replied, you're a fighter, why aren't you surviving?"

I agree with some earlier chimes; you're playing with the wrong players. I only get the "are you a healer?" thing once every month or so, and I normally reply with something like "You don't need healing if the enemies don't hit you", or something along those lines. Whatever fits the defender I'm playing.

But yeah, I'd start my own PuGs in your position. You can't get kicked if you've got the star. Also, if you haven't already, I'd stick my primary/secondary in my search comment.

I propose thusly:

Create a "H3@L0R" Epic AT.

You spawn in as an L1, destructible Oranbega green crystal with "hardcore Death = Delete" rules automatically applied.

Note not just YOUR death, but a death by ANYONE, teamed with you or otherwise on any of the shards. EVER. INCLUDING NPCs.

Why? Because if someone dies/gets defeated, you've failed in your job as a H3@L0R and deserve nothing more!

Unless you agree with this, it has to stay /unsigned.
